    youth is idealistic. Age is realistic. Clue: machiavelli
    was nearly tortured to death when the medici returned to power. He wrote 'the prince' in his 50's under house arrest.
    His cynical advice was
    a legacy beyond revenge.

      One can see it that way. One can also see it a warning or a guide as to how to deal with power, recognize the steps per takes in order to steal freedom and use that information as a key to playing the stock market.
      For example AOC's salary is 60k a year. Yet her car costs more than her yearly salary. Not to mention the cost of living, vacationing, etc etc. So why would anyone spend millions campaigning to win a job that pays less than a fat food manager. To get rich through backdoor dealings, lobbying and voting on regulations of companies they've just purchased stock in. Pay attention and one can become more wealthy than the corrupt politicians they vote for.

    Discussions of Machiavelli from the man behind Sir Francis Urquhart. Now, there may very well be better matches for such; but of course, I couldn't 'Possibly' comment....

    If only Richard II had considered VI, perhaps Henry would not have usurped his throne.

    A pragmatic, cynical and brilliant Secretary of State for the Republic of Florence who died in exile in Ravenna, with a memorial in the Franciscan Abbey Church in Florence.

    This man is one of the last remnants of the aristocratic noble British/European society.

      A brilliant Shakespearean actor from a generation of magnificent compelling actors who are sadly leaving us. RIP Ian Richardson

      You're right about the noble bit ~ of his character,
      but he was from Scotland & not of the aristocracy;
      many born "higher up" don't necessarily behave well
      & nobility of thought/action is what all *can* strive for,
      but often fall short.

      What a stupid ignorant uneducated comment. Snobbery at its worst. He was Scottish.

      @@JP51ism Your use of the word aristocracy is a little bit naive, brother or sister. You refer to the formal aristocracy, which today is almost meningless as the aristocracy of Europe has been reduced to lowly money lenders and merchants with silly titles. The true use of the word refers to those who are BETTER, whether titled or not, and Richardson truly was better. My use of the word is the original Greek meaning of the word. I abhor tabloids and their silley princes and ladies.

      @@kentjensen4504 The comment was made by "kgd"; if anything I was making that point (of yours) that he was of modest roots, but imbued his roles with the more worthy sense of the word.
