Damn! I have been searching for the title of this game. All I can remember is it has a Chinese plot, the girl, and some bits of other characters. I loved this game. Ah so nostalgic!
Pole arms are very versatile weapons. Just ask UA-cam "martial arts spear" I meant Zhao Yun's *exact* move set. Compare it to any modern Dynasty Warriors.
Yeah Ma Chao is my favorite Spearman, although Jiang Wei is also interesting. As far as polearm-wielders outside of spears, I actually have to say that my favorite is Lu Meng. It would be Lu Bu because his prowess and ability to plow through pretty much anyone and everyone makes him fun to play as, but I don't care for his personality and knack for betrayal, among other crimes. I love Ma Chao's spear style, but I also think the dragon-motif on his armor is equally as awesome! I like Jiang Wei as my second favorite spearman because he is pretty swift and precise in its usage, but doesn't have the same flash and fury that Ma Chao does. Lu Meng is my favorite when it comes to polearms outside of spears because despite his birth as a commoner and beginning as a minor player due to that status, he sought to improve himself and not only learned to read and write, but also became a really good strategist, allowing him to rise further in rank. I know that's more of a draw from the historical figure, it's more so his background and personal history that make him so interesting to me, although I do like his glaive-fighting methods and his outfits are always cool to me. Out of all of the characters in the series, I've always really liked Liu Bei, although my favorite interpretation of him is his character design and weapon choice from Dynasty Warriors 3 and 3 Xtreme Legends. To this day, I still don't understand why they spelled Xtreme Legends starting with an, "X." lol :P
In Japan this game is not considered part of the series, there, the saga starts with Shin Sangokumusō, the game known as Dynasty Warriors 2 in Western territories.
@@freeph78 The different numbering issue is also present to Warriors Orochi games as well lol (Musou Orochi: The Return of Demon King = Warriors Orochi 2, MO2 = WO3 and so on)
Makes me kind of pleased I joined the series from DW2... I always thought of getting the first, but I didn't even know it was like Tekken until this year ; D
Hey bud! Will be doing a video about the music of Dynasty Warriors 1, do you mind if I use some footage from here, and I'll give your channel a shout out in the vid? Many thanks!
One thing people miss is that in Japanese this game is called Sangoku Musou meanwhile the hack and slash games we know today were called Shin Sangoku Musou, which initially was meant to be a spin off. Of course, over time the so called spin offs managed to outshadow the intended main series and that's where we got to where we are today
Stopped liking this series after DW4. They need to go back to this. This was super fun if youve ever played it. Countless battles with friends back in the day on this one.
Zhuge Liang, CaoCao and Oda Nobunaga (!!!!!) on the same game ? Damn ! I remember this game, i played with my friend as a alternative to Soul Blade psone.
Dynasty Warriors is INDEED a H&S series. This game has nothing to do with DW2 and beyond and is considered standalone in Japan, the only relation this game had with the later games was that this game would set a foundation to the series we know today. Also another fun fact you probably don't know, DW2-9 actually has a sightly different title in Japan. In Japan, the series is known as "Shin Sangoku Musou" ("True/New Unrivaled of the Three Kingdoms" in English), while DW1 is just titled as "Sangoku Musou" in Japan. Because of this, the numbering in Japan are sightly behind the English releases (DW2 = SSM1, DW3 = SSM2 and so on).
Imagine what the series would have been if it was just a beat em up. Probably just a run of the mill generic fighting game franchise that would pale in comparison to tekken etc...
the people thinks this is the first game of core series but it its not first of all the first dynasty warriors its the second dynasty warriors this game its sangoku musou no shin sangoku musou however thats why dynasty warriors 9 its in japan 8 because this game its not counted as dynasty warriors 1 Dynasty Warriors -> Sangoku musou Dynasty Warriors 2 -> Shin sangoku musou Dynasty Warriors 3 -> Shin sangoku musou 2 Dynasty Warriors 4 -> Shin sangoku musou 3 Dynasty Warriors 5 -> Shin sangoku musou 4 Dynasty Warriors 6 -> Shin sangoku musou 5 Dynasty Warriors 7 -> Shin sangoku musou 6 Dynasty Warriors 8 -> Shin sangoku musou 7 Dynasty Warriors 9 -> Shin sangoku musou 8
which makes you wonder when they’ll reach a scenario where two installments would count as one narrative and the Japanese version would be released with the normal numerals, while the US version would be released as “part 1 and part 2”
has more realistic movement than the most realistic looking fighting game to date, injustice 2. gameplay > graphic and in a fighting game, move-sets are gameplay
Injustice is a lot less realistic in term of combat technique than UFC franchise, or even say, the last Virtua Fighter game! IMO, Injustice is overrated. I guess you could rather compare Dynasty Warriors with Soul Blade/the first Soul Calibur games instead, which are excellent versus fighting games, still for today.
Who would've thought that a hack-'n-slash series got its start as a one-on-one fighting game?
we would have, we who grew in its era. the ps1 era
I grew up in the psx era but so didn't know this though lol. Then again, my parents used to buy games they wanted. Example: Crash, Spyro, Streak etc
gottcha #SolarWarlock
Funny thing is never played any other game of this series
Guess they figured they couldn't compete with Soulcalibur. Let's take this IP in another direction! Lol
Even a great series like Dynasty Warriors has to start somewhere.
Wait, what? Dynasty Warriors was a fighting game at first? Fahk orf.
Yep. I owned the game as a kid. A beautiful fighting game with an awesome soundtrack
I actually had this game! Not many remember that it was a one on one fighting game first
fighterxaos got it as a Christmas gift the year it came out. Would have tourneys with bros and friends.
I had it too.
Because there were better fighting games.
That intro was worth the price of admission alone. Made me want to backflip over the moon as it explodes.
This is where the epic series is begin...This is first Dynasty Warriors!
The character movements looks really good in this game.
Damn! I have been searching for the title of this game. All I can remember is it has a Chinese plot, the girl, and some bits of other characters. I loved this game. Ah so nostalgic!
Huh. Zhao Yun moves set didn't change much for all years.
Yet from pole arms guys, Ma Chao still is my favorite.
Tbh, there isn't much you can do with a spear lol
Pole arms are very versatile weapons. Just ask UA-cam "martial arts spear"
I meant Zhao Yun's *exact* move set.

"I fight in the name of justice!"
Those were the Days
Heh. Never knew this existed.
My very first chinese history lesson was DW2
Happy 25th Anniversary to Dynasty Warriors 1!
Looks like tekken mixed with Soul Blade. I always loved this games soundtrack
However, it’s interesting to know these characters haven’t changed their weapons and major moves throughout all the series
Omg childhood memories of this game!!
I'm 23 yo and I used to play this game on my father's ps1! So nostalgic
In Japan this game is not considered part of the series, there, the saga starts with Shin Sangokumusō, the game known as Dynasty Warriors 2 in Western territories.

Bro I remember playing this game a lot as a kid, one of my favorites.
Makes me kind of pleased I joined the series from DW2... I always thought of getting the first, but I didn't even know it was like Tekken until this year ; D
This...this isnt the DW I grew up with.
It's the original
You probably didn't grow up in the 90s then. Lol.
Hey bud! Will be doing a video about the music of Dynasty Warriors 1, do you mind if I use some footage from here, and I'll give your channel a shout out in the vid? Many thanks!
Is it some sort of Soul Edge/Soul Calibur reskin, but with worse graphics?
This game has great movesets tho
Is dynasty warriors 1 cane out first than soul calibur 1? I mean SC is recognized with weapon base fighting game

Ahhh memories... :)
I know this game is the start of the franchise but I'm mostly in to the ones on PSP, but this game don't look that bad.
The intro tho lol
First dw game eh?
I did not expect this.
I didn't know Sango Fighter series had one PS1 game.
Lawendowy Oscypek what is a sango fighter series?
The old MS-DOS fighting game series with the Dynasty Warriors characters.
Oh yeah. I forgot that DW starts as a Fighting game.
thats what i was nearly gonna say
Years later, DW becomes a field beat 'em up/hack and slash Final Fight.
Zhuge Liang, CaoCao and Oda Nobunaga (!!!!!) on the same game ? Damn !
I remember this game, i played with my friend as a alternative to Soul Blade psone.
omg this intro!!
I just found out that the dynasty warrior game was first a fighting themed game. I thought games like dynasty warriors were hack n slash games.

borjitasstoi It’s the first in the west.
which makes you wonder when they’ll reach a scenario where two installments would count as one narrative and the Japanese version would be released with the normal numerals, while the US version would be released as “part 1 and part 2”

Yea, tekken with weapons lol
