I love the blue AI which seemed to give up once you started repairing the depot at the bottom right of your base "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"
Yah the thing about Starcraft 1 maps is that they often didn’t have many resource bases and the AI wasn’t very good at effectively countering a walled off defensive line. This meant that the AI could often be beat in a war of attrition
That was always my go-to strategy back in the old RTS days. Red Alert 1 and 2 and StarCraft. Turtle up and let them pound away on my defenses until they had nothing left or I had an overwhelming army. When StarCraft 2 came out, I tried it and no matter how much defense I built, there was always a way to counter it. Makes it impossible for sissies like me to hide behind turrets, bunkers, and siege tanks.
In Map Editor, they made available Custom AIs for custom maps, those did a better job vs players. Made better use of their units, especially casters, and applied better tactics. Some AIs were cheating as well, some not. Still no match for humans, but a visible improvement. I heard later on even better AIs were presented by modders, but those I never saw myself.

People back in 2000 would play such 1v7 very differently, and I give a decent chance that some may not even realise what a wall is. Me would need a lot of courage to play like this, especially when expansion is difficult to come by. I just hate those campaign missions where expansions has to be dropped and difficult to get, or no expansion at all.
If you want an easier way to beat 1v7, try Big Game Hunters! You won't run out of resources and the enemies don't really know how to use the increased resources (because they were designed for "normal mineral" type maps). Island maps and going for Battlecruisers/Carriers/Guardians is also fairly easy. The enemies do use drops but they're not very good at it.
I remember doing those challenges to myself when I was 14yo; but I kinda "cheated" by sending SCV to the enemy bases, attacking something once and then roam around the map towards the next enemy AI's base to attack and lure. That way I remember I delayed their farming and had marines going for their empty bases while their drones were chasing me :D good game, loved that! Often times an Armory can be better than a supply depot at walling because it has no gaps between so it doesn't leak zlings and zlots and has higher max hp. It could have been considered when a depot is destroyed such as at 13:37. Downsides are Armory does repair slower and costs gas.

Sick. Gotta say though... If there was a line of code in there somewhere that said something like "if player has x amount of tanks build a bunch of aerial sh!t" that would make for a pretty cool fight.
This brings back fun memories of fighting zerg AI alongside friends in college. I always played the Terran who would use this sort of tactics: set up meat grinder that the computer will dump massive resources into. That said, I remembered the computer being slightly smaller than this. I definitely think what I usually fought against would have teched up a bit (broodlords, queens, etc) and taken the middle base. I noticed that these enemies never even use seiged tanks, much less air units (other that we wraiths at the end).
It's weird how little aircraft was used by computers You build pretty great anti infantry defence, that could be ruined by a very few aircraft units. Guardians would be especially deadly here.
Not sure if you know it but you can send your troops with key A of Attack and they will get to the target you point but you need to point to the ground, with this automatically each unit will attack to the closest enemy each they have and once eliminated they will continue to the target you point, that save you some time to do other stuff.
