Nick, I absolutely love the “dog call to action” quick edits. :) you’ve worked them into the videos quite nicely. Also, I saw the workout video on Twitter. What an awesome production/ story. :) I very much appreciate all of the advice/knowledge you share with your community. ✌️ from NJ
Thanks so much Tom! I think you’re the first person to mentioned the dog CTAs in the videos. I am stoked on those too. I was sick of the same old asking people to sub so that was fun to rethink. Appreciate the comments as always brother!
NicksFort well sir - you certainly found a creative way to work around that generic “make sure to subscribe and hit the bell” jargon. Thanks again for all the hard work and sold teachings. 😀✌️
Appreciate this tutorial so much. Thank you man. It seems like I'm learning something new every single time I watch one of your videos. Maybe its your teaching style or the way you present the information but for some reason I always walk away with helpful, useful and applicable information to my struggling life as a new youtuber. Keep them coming! new subcriber!
This is an amazing video, thank you so much. It has such great advice and is easy to understand for someone like me who has no idea how to start filming.
Oh my gosh, this is amazing advice. I just found your channel from the previous video you linked. New YTer and new subscriber! Thanks for the tips. Going to try to incorporate this in to my vlogs
Just watched this and the linked video, omg, I've been thinking of b-roll as what you call 'inserts', only. Doh! Gonna try the 5 shot this week, thanks Nick
The biggest take away was the your 5 shot technique with a link to that video. How to tell a story with b roll. Been having trouble with that. I have been getting good random good shots. But how to put them together in edit? Need more shots. One random shot dose not tell the story.
Did everyone else see all the footage and explanation and think the edit turned out way different than you thought it would be? It was good, just my editing style put it together in my mind differently, just curious...
Thanks for the kind words! Can you share some more details on what you would want to learn about balancing A-Roll and B-Roll? Here is a short film I made that has broll and aroll that I could reference/breakdown, let me know: vimeo.com/369607849
All my gear is linked below, but I using a Aputure 120D: amzn.to/2L8vkta with the Aputure Lightdome: amzn.to/2KxzpG7 as my key, and a reflector on a stand as a negative fill. The light in the background is a philips hue :)
Good question. So I would say that cross-cutting is action happening at the same time and usually same place vs. intercutting is contrasting scenes to make one composite scene (often in distinct locations). For my example in this video it's almost a weird blend of the two ideas. It's not different distinct locations necessarily (like archive film cut against an interview talking head) but it's also not the same time or necessarily the same "place". For example if it was just her doing one exercise that would be more inline with cross-cutting. With this example we are in multiple locations in the gym itself across a span of hours. So not a cut and dry situation but sort of a blend. Hope that helps!
The problem with these "UA-cam creators" is that they get obsessed with b-roll and so all they ever shoot is b-roll. This entire Work our video that's being shown is nothing but b-roll. There's no real substance in these videos at all, just background music and b-roll. The world isn't a fucking music video. You need some actual content and not just slo-mo bullshit. Video, like photography, needs to have some art to it. You can't just copy all the stupid influencers style and say you're good at video. If you don't bring anything of your own to the table then you're not bringing value.
I 100% agree you with you. It's pretty annoying actually. And even more so, shooting b-roll aimlessly can be a fun exercise or experiment certainly BUT shooting b-roll with intention and with story in mind can elevate the end content substantially. Create with Intention :)
You do a lot of nonsense rambling. I like some of your videos when you don't filter on bs, however this video you spent 2 minuets consistently repeating yourself. Beginning middle and end. We get it. Now dive into it. You literally made a whole story up before actually going into a description. Then you wasted views time by talking about the subscription. What a boring video. I couldn't even finish watching the rest of it. Thumbs down for me
Also JW...I am just kidding. I am stoked that you find some of my content helpful. But try to understand that I am not making this content only for you so it's not going to be perfect for you everytime. Maybe watch it in 2x speed if you need to get the content faster.
@@NicksFort never said it was only for me. I just think when it comes to videos that are helpful - be helpful. You're life isn't as amazing as you try to make it so the rambling about useless pointless things just to stretch the length of your video wastes people time and discredits your channel. I like your videos for the most part when they do what they are intended to do. But when you go off subject and I have to try and skip into the video just to see you talking about the important stuff. I think it's sad.
@@mail-delivery-subsystem You mentioned I spent 2 minuets consistently repeating myself. This I take it is when I "wasted" your time. Can you let me know what section in this video you're referring to? So I can better understand where you are coming from?
@@NicksFort no. It was this video which is why I made a comment on it, otherwise why would I comment regarding a different video? I also said no because I don't feel like watching it again and listening through the bs. Your videos are good for the most part. You're not here to please me but you also posted a video publicly. So I'm not gonna jump on the band wagon and stroke your stick about how awesome and good your video is. It is what it is. You're video was sub par. I made a comment about it. You can take the criticism, adjust fire, or not change a f ing thing bro. No need for further debate.

Really helpful, thanks. The assistant dogs...lol fun.
Glad it was helpful!
Very very very useful content and very very clear, thank you!
This is the best walkthrough I've seen on how b-roll needs to tell a story. Thanks for the step-by-step! Got a sub for this one
Glad it was helpful! I am assuming you've seen my other BROLL video by now too?

Appreciate that! Thanks for the kind words :)

I am excited for you! I imagine you will be able to tell substantially better stories once you start using the 5 shot technique!
Thanks again Nick always appreciate your teachings. Very helpful, keep up the good work.

@@robertperlaki4182 so true! Getting one random amazing shot is fun but it's also not as useful as getting a group of shots that can tell a story :)
I'm here for camera angles 😁
Nice one! 👍
I think I can see the beginning... I like the middle... and the end is bodacious
strong story structure at it's core!
Did everyone else see all the footage and explanation and think the edit turned out way different than you thought it would be? It was good, just my editing style put it together in my mind differently, just curious...
I think that makes sense actually and it's good. Having your own style and vision in filmmaking is what makes it work! That's good to hear!
Such good advice 👍🏼
Thanks so much Monie! Appreciate you being around and continuing to watch my videos. What questions do you have for me about freelancing?
