It's pretty incredible how much you can do with video editing to get exactly the effect you want, even with precise masking of the video. Transforming the audio clips from one thing into something completely different (though still water-based) shows just how malleable things are. I much appreciate you sharing as I am just getting into video and am interested in steering the mood like this, so thanks for the 'deep dive' on so many levels!

Choosing the music first - I've been finding that is definitely the key. Multiple times, I've gone through editing a video and not feeling inspired and not knowing where it's going or what it's doing but then I find the right music and it's as if someone has numbered all the pieces of the puzzle for me. Sound effects are certainly a spice I need to be adding. As always, your videos rock my inspiration, thanks a ton dude!

Yep it ads real feel to the clip, but it takes a long time, I use storyblocks, and sometimes you need to make you own sounds, fiddle with them, speed change them and then place them right in sequence with the clip, like you do with music. Peter Lindgren did a epic sound design on a drummer clip he did, check it out, unbelievable work.

    SONG LENGTH TIP!
If you have Adobe CC, you should take your audio and load it into Audition. Once you're in there open your track in Multi-track mode and right click on the song. In that drop down menu there is a button that says "Enable Remix". Click that. On the left side of your screen you'll see there is a duration option. Drag that to fit your video length and it will MAGICALLY edit the song to fit that new duration.
Thanks Pete, for the constant inspiration to grow in video creation!

I got so excited watching this. Not only because it’s a PM video, but because I felt excited hearing and learning more about sound design, and the process.

Loved the video. Do you have a script of the monolog that you used in the original? If you do, is it ok if you can share it?

Peter. An excellent video. I’ve already learnt so much from watching your vlogs and tutorials. I even play them to the kids in my media class. This video has really helped me with audio design for video. Thank you for creating and sharing it.

Love it!!! Also LOVE finding the music first! Sometimes you’re sitting there with no idea how you are gonna edit this thing and then BAM; you find that song, and the next 2 hours are a blur!!!!

I really enjoy the film with the music disabled. Gives it sort of an eerie vibe.

I just love you Peter, love your work and the fact that you have fun while at it. I am definitely seeing you when I visit Canada...Just expect me someday soon.
I have always edited the sound design while the background music is on. Watching this video just opened my eyes to how I can just swim in the designed sound only, to really feel it.

Peter, I just want to say thanks for everything you do for and teaches us. You are so calm, funny, professional and a huge inspiration for me personally as a filmmaker. Keep your work as crisp, clean and nice and tight just like you always do. Last but not least i want to wish you all the best in the future with your family and future projects, it is always a pleasure to join along on your journey here on the channel!
    Best regards, Martin Edholm, Sweden.
