You also get a compass error most time if you turn on when folded.
What if I switch the mavic mini 2 arms on the mavic mini , will it still fly? I have searched for it everywhere, but no results
"Emergency only" means, the motors turn off automatically when you hit something, but you can't turn them off yourself. You can only turn them off yourself when you selected "anytime" in the settings, which can be useful if you're flying near people or animals for example (I rather crash my drone than hurt someone). It's not weird, it makes perfect sense. 😅
It does make sense indeed! Thanks for your input. A couple of others have suggested this as well. I’ll need to test it in my next “What if?” video.
yes once I crashed my drone intro a tree and then the motors are stopped spinning
and a message pop up on phone that "motors are unable to rotate please check the motors"
@@TechyHrik just like mavic air crashing at tree with sport mode it wont shutoff the motors but the Mini/Mini2 does
@@nintendo-toasteredition wow that means mavic mini and mini 2 are more safe 🤔😅
@@TechyHrik yep thats right because a youtuber made a video abot mavic air durability test the test shows that mavic air didn't shutoff the motors even the propeller touching the ground while spinning i guess that the mavic air tried to stabilize itslef but even in dangerous situations
I still look up your DJI Phantom 3 (standard) videos, don’t erase those, they still help me out.
Classic content right there. There are many who continue to check out those videos which blows my mind! My how to fly a drone video is still the #1 most viewed video on my channel every month, lol
Everything we wanted to know but were too afraid to try. Very informative (as usual) OMG that landing. Kinda dramatic tho-gotta give it that!!
I have literally been thinking about most of these!
Well done video! Nicely organized. Nicely paced. No padding. To the point. Informative and fun - and most of those scenarios are ones I'm sure we've all wondered about. Thanks!
I bought the Mavic Air 2. Never flew a drone before. Loving it now. These videos are amazingly helpful. Thanks Carson.
Great video Carson! Very helpful. When I powered up my Mavic Air 2 for the very first time I forgot to take off the gimbal cover. I was thinking that I may have damaged the gimbal. Thankfully it still works, as you showed in your video. I haven't forgotten to remove it since, because I put a piece of blue painters tape on it and up to the power switch. Easy reminder that my gimbal cover is on and to remove tape and cover before flight.
3 years later and you have answered all my questions, many thanks!
Bruh I really love your outro
Thank you!
It recognises an emergency if there is an error which pops on the app
The intersting test would have been to switch the CSC response to "anytime" then go up high, CSC it, and see if you could restart the motors as it fell i.e. halt the fall.
Note 1, the restarting attempt MUST be made with a SECOND CSC i.e. release the first CSC let the sticks recentre and apply the SECOND CSC. If you just hold the motor stopping CSC the drone will NOT even try to restart.
Note 2, if you succeeded in restarting the motors you might have to throttle up to halt the fall as the motors might restart at idle. There is some discussion of this in one or more threads on the Mavicpilots forum. The uncertainty surrounds whether the drone will, during free fall, remain level enough or perhaps pass through such a position slowly enough to permit another CSC to restart the motors. Excessive tilts during free fall may prevent the motors from starting.
In "emergency only" mode it will descend in a helix under full control for as long as you hold the CSC position and, if you let it come down that far, it will even slow its descent as the ground comes within range of the downward looking sensors. Once you release the sticks it will hover.
The following, from more than 1 year ago, is a low level CSC with motor stop, with a Mavic Mini, dropping into a blanket. ua-cam.com/video/50saxz5uzgw/v-deo.html
If I remember correctly the following, also 1 year + ago, is a good video dealing with a mid air CSC, ua-cam.com/video/IRpmKtKjPfs/v-deo.html

Thanks for making this! I just picked up the mini 2. This is really helpful
very informative, thanks for this video carson
love great info keep the video coming
Great video Carson, This wasn’t the carnage I expected. Whew..😁
:)
0:40 I love the way you test gimbal strength by shaking the drones.
Thanks for using your drone to answer these questions lol. Really appreciate it. Good info!
He Carson.... Interesting video. Answered visually some of the info I've read in the DJI Manuals (2 Pro & MA 2). Lost signal from the controller (i.e. - power loss), the drone waits approx. 11 seconds, before initiating and automatic RTH. As for the moving both joy sticks either in or out at the same time in an Emergency, going to guess it might have something to do with an immediate threat of collision if OAS is not functioning; or it might be a fly way situation.
Post Script - Finally got to fly my MA 2 after 9 months of lock down. Did nothing crazy, just reacquaint my hand-eye co-ordination. Having flown my micro drone in the interim, certainly helped.
Very informative. Thanks Carson!
Great effort, Carson! 10/10
A rare piece of information. Thanks a ton!!!
One thing I want to add about the emergency shutoff in emergency only mode is that when you start to do a manual take off but you don't take off (props spinning slowly) you can use that emergency shutoff to turn the props off. I have done this with a borrowed air 2 (am saving for a air2s). The reason was that i was about to film a car driving on private property and I didn't know if I needed to take off so I had the props spinning slowly so I could take off quickly
As a newbie to drones this was really interesting and educational, thanks. Just got a mini SE
Thank you for doing this video I was getting paranoid
Thanks for trialing for all of us
Dude... Your lawn looks amazing!
Great video this!
This type of drone was one of my first drones. The second day I got it, I went up about 100 feet and the drone battery died.. it fell uncontrollably all the way back down and landed very hard on my concrete driveway. Only thing that was damaged was the legs. Still flys great to this day!
a testament to the quality of the outer shell of these drones

Thanks for this sir. I appreciate you.
I appreciate you too for checking out the video! Hope you enjoyed.
thanks for the crash course!!!
Haha, literally! But no problem :)
Hey I learn something everyday I never knew you turn the drone sideways it turns off thanks man.
Carson we need the detailed review of Air 2s like you did for Air 2.. 👍
You are very brave and confident do do this with your drone, I have a DJI Mavic Air 2 and I would never do this, wow! How could you be so brave to try to take off when it’s folded up
"Not touching the controller". Proceeds to instantly power up the controller when the drone doesn't return to home so now we don't know what would have happened. 🤦♂️
Thank you for all the *WHAT IF*. Its very intersting what our Mini2 can do by itself.
Best regards

I had to do that in Cancun, CSC cut-off, I was at 30 meters and it dropped to 12 meters in a second before restarted and hovering. It was a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
Please review the 2s
It looks pretty awesome, doesn’t it?
@@carsonmtech yes it does
@@carsonmtech but why dji releases a drone to kill the mavic 2pro I don’t understand
Yeah, I’m not sure. It’s just innovation and I welcome it! It’s just crazy how technology can evolve and outperform it’s predecessors in just a matter of 2-3 years when it comes to drones!
What if... good to see this 👍👍✌️
great vid i bought my first drone last week. a mini se ill never own anything other than this brand, you answered all my questions
Teşekkürler bilgilendirme için.
"if you're someone who hasn't heard of skillshare before". That was a joke, right? It's on every.freakin.video.
I would like to see you try to go up about 500 feet and initiate the CSC function and then start it up before it hits the ground and recover without crashing. I think it’s possible but no way am I going on try it! Lol.
The drone won't start if it's upside down or at an extreme angle so once it start's tumbling, you've had it!
@@mrmessy7334Is already done:ua-cam.com/video/SlfpFdbztM4/v-deo.html It will start, at least in a DJI Mavic Pro
@@joseossa3117 That surprises me. Perhaps you should try it with the Mini and see if it works. I'm certainly not!
Your videos have always been on what ifs scenarios that an amateur drone pilot can learn to avoid and enhance their flying experience secondary to taking photo tips. Have only flown my ma2 12x since purchased end of Sept but will fly again with better weather temps. The DJI air 2 has top sensors but don't have side. Autel Evo 2 still has an advantage except for the radio system that uses other protocol.
answerd all my
questions since i got my dji mini 2
now.. can you please try this? if you initiate csc in mid flight, can you take off again while falling? kinda james bond style?
Good One Bro
Great review Carson. I couldn't help wondering: are you a young Trent Palmer from the past?? Lol!
Not seeing anyone mention this so I feel I need to. The “controller off” rth? Wasn’t hovering because it didn’t like the surface, that’s what it does. Hovers until the battery level drops to critical and performs a forced “low battery” landing. It’s a safety feature in case the rth wasn’t accurate and it might land somewhere you don’t want.
Is it possible to turn it off and restart it midflight? For example if I'm very high up lets say about 1500ft and barely have any battery left to descend, can I turn it off and then restart it when it's close to the ground about 300ft. I have seen people doing that on other drones and I was wondering.
You are the best and as we'll as I am a big fan of you too so would you pls do a review of dji mavic air 2s
Thank you Sherika! I am definitely considering it, but I have not pulled the trigger yet.
Nah that one is too expensive
How long do the brushless motors last? I worry everytime I fly is this the day she falls from the sky.
If your far away and the app crashes will return to home work .thanks for your videos it helps alot
Hey Carson, great tests! ... can you do another What If test? Was wondering, what if the mm2 as full left stick down (mode 2), while the drone is flying (in motion, not hover). Would it stop and land or would it just crash and burn to the ground? Cheers..
Ok so you have CSC set for anytime. Let's assume you are at 400ft (120m), and you shut down your drone. So now it's free falling, so now you attempt to start the motors again, I wonder what would happen especially if the drone was tumbling not just falling straight down
“Grab it put of the sky and flip it over”
“VVVVVV-“
I don’t know why but I just found that funny
Hey did you start off with the mini 1 and then you return back to your video and then you have the mini 2?
I wish I had a drone to fly with my teen son for some good quality time after buying his I can't really afford me one to but it would be some good memories , keep up the good work
Are the bottom sensors tied into Emergency Shutoff? Down low it lands, any altitude and the motors shut down?
You need not worry about controller battery, it lasts around 6 drone batteries and dots are just indicator. If its really almost depleted you get notofication and beeping to land almost the same like when drone is empty
Should try the CSC maneuver with the different control schemes. I personally do not use the default
could go real high, power off the props let it fall for a few seconds and power them back on.
Really good video but on the mini 2 you can set what happens when the controller disconnects
Thanks.
No probs
Dude, as a Mavic Mini and Mini 2 LOVER, I really do respect you for damaging your drone for all of us, lolol....
I was feeling pretty bad when the gimbal was all struggling..
Sweet
Keep well and be safe everyone!
🛸🇧🇬🙏😁
The DJI Mini 2 in video mode will not take photo untill you change mode to photo can I get arould this when I'm in video mode to take a photo ?
Thanks Young man 👍👍👍👍you are super cool 😎 👍
Once I got my mini hell of far away and lost all communication thankfully after 10 sec with no reception it will come back home.
Just make sure your settings for loss of signal are set to RTH. There are three options, at least on the Mini 2 that I have: RTH, Descend, and Hover.
@@colbycarroll7746 Yes! The drone will execute a "lost link" procedure by default if it loses connection with the RC. And, you won't be able to do anything about it after that happens until the drone re-established link with controller. So, make sure you select the correct lost link procedure before takeoff! Never use "Return To Home" setting when taking off from a boat--the drone will come back and "land" in the water if boat has moved (after lost link or when battery drops to 10%). Remember, the drone only knows the GPS location to land--it cannot tell if it's land or water beneath it). Also, it will go straight up to RTH height you specified--which is good to avoid trees, buildings, and power lines. However, if it disconnects under tree branches, a bridge, tunnel, or roof--it will fly straight up and crash into them. However, if you are flying above the RTH altitude you set--the drone will not descend until landing.
Great video, what happens if a propeller fails in midflight?
new subscriber here. excellent review. how about you dont have internet? what is posible happen? how far the flight?
I’ve got a mavic that won’t connect to remote. I tried various ways and still no luck 😭
That’s annoying. Have you tried reaching out to DJI support? I’d recommend reaching out and seeing if they have anything to offer!
-----> HELP
HI!
I always fly over the bay waters at Miami Beach, FL. The USA.
Is there any way to set a "LOW ALTITUDE WARNING" or any similarity on the Mavic Air 2.?
I get distracted and lost all the altitude while moving the left joystick to rotate.
I could set it to any altitude for the warning to be activated. The idea is to increase altitude if I get below, e.g., 5 or 10 meters.
Then prevent it from crashing into the water. I already lost the Mavic mini and the Mavic 2. I can't retrieve them from the bay floor. I am afraid to make the same mistake with the Mavic air 2. It has happened to commercial airplanes too. Pilots get distracted and crash after losing altitude.
Does the mavic mini controller talk to u saying aircraft taking off and other stuff like othe DJI drones
Hey, I have a question I am not brave enough to answer myself. I was wondering if you emergency power off high up is it possible to return to normal flight operation before hitting the ground? This stems off of a video I watched where a guy’s drone got stranded at a high altitude because the positioning system kept the drone from descending due to wind. Curious to see what could come out of that experiment.
go higher than 300 feet and hold the emergency only for much longer
Not sure this is the correct answer (haven't tried), but according to a post on the dji forums the drone detects an emergency as something out of the ordinary happening like bumping into something, tumbling out of the sky (i.e. propeller came off) or something the like. So the drone has to be in some kind of distress so to speak for the csc to work in emergency only mode. The answer was worded a bit unclear but that's what I took from it. So maybe put a propeller guard on, have someone bump the drone and try again.
Interesting. I’ll have to try this in a future what if video. Thanks for your input!
How does it detect an emergency?
Tried to figure it out ever since I bought Mini 2
Can you ask dji please?
If you hit something the motors turn off automatically, that's what "emergency only" means. When you select "anytime", you additionally can turn them off yourself, for example right before hitting something.
It dectects an “emergency” by the data coming from the accelerometers and IMU. The flight controller will then cut power to the motors.
It's great to see that you're getting more recognition, I've been here since your Phantom 3 video's, excellent work! Your quality far surpasses how many subscribers you have.
great video as always.. very nicely done..kudos .. have you tried.. shutting the RC off as well as turning the app/phone off at the same time---what will happen .. maybe too crazy ??
yea really crazy
anyone knows is it possible to emergency stop the properells midflight and then quickly restart? will that work and still keep the drone in the air?
5:26 its Falisafe RTH its active when your controller dies or the drone loses RC signal
Thank you Carson for sacrificing your drones to test. Because I wouldn't! 😂
Sure thing :)
Thank you Harry Potter.
Love what you did with your wand.
So funny, yesterday I was wondering what would happen if the app crashes whilst I’m flying....
Well, wasn’t that just perfect timing? Glad I was able to answer your question :)! Take care Jo
My app did crash, twice... mini2.. and indeed, once the app was re-opened, everything was fine!
What if controller is turned off within 10ft? Does it return to home or just land in place?
If you’re really high up can you emergency turn of then back on b4 the drone crashes to the earth
I would like you to do an emergency landing at about 100ft and then propelled up again! After it hits like 60 ft of course.
What if you unplug your phone while flying and your far away will you have to hold down the rth button
At 5:05, it looked as if it was returning to home, just not yours 😅, it looked like it got confused went the wrong direction, then turned around heading back to where it was hovering, would of been interesting to see it play out for a little bit, that's why return to home worries me a little.
Nice video by the way 👍
Ive flown my mini b4 and all of sudden remote controller disconnect.Shock indeed but it did return to home safely. Noted: b4 flying ALWAYS CHECK RTH POINT(its really helpful). And f u ever plan flying well quite far (probly bout 2km +) use 100% battery level.
6:20 Actually it hovers at 1-3ft and waits for user confirmation to land. If it reaches critical battery iw will land tho
When you do the emergency only you moved both sticks at the exact same time to the shut off position every other test you did you did not move them at the same time possibly that’s how they know
Was flying my mini 2 in laurentiens hills and had lost connection. then started getting sparadic connections .I was waiting for rth to engage then I hear app saying rth updated check on map. i did not initiate that so aircraft was going to land in deep woods.luckily I cancelled landing and made it hover till I got better signal and manually flew it to original location.has that happened to anyone else.
