I've always been fascinated by the July Crisis. I agree with Fritz Fischer that Germany was to blame, and yet... I ordered the game by paypal just now and did not use a blank cheque alas. Thanks for the video.

Interesting topic indeed and it is soloable, will have to investigate further.
Visited Tyne Cot Cemetery today (near Ypres), where almost 12000 poor souls from the CW are buried, most of them unidentified, quite a chilling experience on a sunny summer's day.

I have a copy and tried to play it against myself with two players, Russia and Austria-Hungary, to learn it. It is, as you said, hard to get right. But I agree that this is an exciting brinkmanship game. I risked an Ultimatum to crush Russia's Diplomatic score but then found myself passing with five cards on the last turn, just making 14. I have to get a crowd to play it!

Such an important moment in history. One could argue both world wars could have been prevented had better decisions been made during this time period.

Several nations leaders or militaries wanted a war. Austria in particular made this Balkan crisis into a war. But neither Russia, Germany, France, UK cooled the situation down at all. On the contrary they were eager to pledge support for their ally "if" (making it when) things whould escalate?

I think this sounds like it could benefit from a good walkthrough video.

@@Lordjunon Probably. Unfortunately, I don’t do walkthrough videos. Hopefully Watch it Played will hit it. Thanks.

thanks for the video. I've been wanting to get this to the table for some time and the rules have kept it on the shelf but it looks amazing!

Once you get over the learning hump, you'll get a kick out of it.

@TheDiscriminatingGamer I love Versailles 1919 and Churchill and we thought it would be fun to play the 3 of them in order

Great topic, and unusual; I wonder if the game is not quite worth it though. Diplomatic games, in general, seem a little slow moving to me.

@@normstewart546 Depends on the game. I thought this one clipped, once we got the rules down.

Interesting theme indeed but no intuitive and not easy to learn is a pass… unfortunately as I love that period.
