Your comments about the other players feeling more reactionary and not having as much to do is definitely a fair one and is also an issue/feature of the WW2 game as well. But when playing with my friends (we’ve mostly played the WW2 version) I’ve always made sure to point out at the start that each nation has a slightly different play style and that some of them will be more of a supporting partner than the leader but that they’ll still win as a team. Italy and Germany are a good example of that since the former in the WW2 edition has the smallest deck of cards and is best suited to bolster the Germany players actions. Conversely, the US player has the most cards which reflects its economic power while Russia has only one navy unit (I think) as the Russian navy wasn’t really much of a thing during WW2 etc etc etc. I think if the players know these things beforehand then they might enjoy the game more. I wouldn’t call the game asymmetric necessarily, but it’s definitely true that both of these QMG games have some degree of variable player strengths and weaknesses. Really happy to see you review this Cody and keep up the fantastic work!

Personally, I think this game is brilliant. Almost a masterpiece, really. Funny, my pieces are plastic miniatures, and some of the art on the cards are different. When I bought the WW2 game, the bits were wood, BUT...they can be replaced with Axis and Allies units...heads up!
This video came out at a perfect a time I was just looking at this game and was curouis about getting it, thankyou for the great video. You should also check out quater master ww2
You mentioned at the end, the WWII version of QMG, which is the father of the QMG series (there's also a Cold War version). If you liked this, then the WWII version (2nd ed) is a must try. And I bet that it's one your friends might enjoy better as it's a tad simpler.
I've played this and enjoyed it (as well as the WW2 version), but I also think your friends' criticisms are valid. Germany really drives this game (as they did the war, of course) and if you're not playing as them, you're mostly just reacting. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this after playing as someone other than Germany.
Yes! Thank you Dr. Cody for reviewing the Quarter Master General 1914! I am very intrigued by the series of Quarter Master series of game.
Thanks!
I could've sworn you had reviewed this already. It's a fantastic game!
Nope - first time playing it. Yup - it’s a great game.

Thanks a ton. I'd like to hit the WWII version sometime.
1914 is fantastic game.
WWII Second Edition with Total War and Prelude? Best game ever.
Interesting.
I have only one play of QMG 1914 but it will never leave my collection. Thanks for the review.
Thank you.

The jokes just get better and better doggone it!
Dogs have nothing to do with it!
I had to pick it up, great review !
Excellent. Happy to help!

Happy to help. I'm sure I'll look at QMGWW2 down the road. Just glad I finally got in the series to the table.
Quite the dapper hat. Game review was entertaining as well. Puns were dadworthy.
Thanks. I do what I can.

I’m hoping to eventually. Thanks.
This is a brilliant game. You can't win this without working closely with your allies.
Fun game indeed.
I have the Cold War version from the Kickstarter, the gimmick is that it’s three players, but haven’t tried it yet
Sounds like fun!
Why do you say it's a "gimmick"???
@@bgm-1961 It's the specific tweak to the formula of this series that fits the theme of cold war.
@@Ad3tr Ah, OK. In my mind, I always associate "gimmick" as being a derogatory reference. But your explanation is spot-on.
@@bgm-1961 Yeah, it's just why you'd play one game in the series vs another.
Gleuntag! That is cute!
I'll say! Thanks.

Perhaps I’ll share my thoughts on that down the road.
Playing this it just gives me the feel of a fistfight in a phone booth.
Ha!
How do you think it would play as a 2 player game? Maybe eliminate some of those feelings of not doing enough?
Yeah. I think that might help a lot, actually. I’d like to try it two player.
I Will try it
Fantastic!
I love this game and think it’s better than the WW2 version.
I've heard people say that.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Victory or Death is more challenging to play, but better still.
@@pamelagore5084 That one looks interesting.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer it plays very differently than WW1 and WW2 versions. If you liked 1914 then you should definitely give it a try.
The last joke made me sub your channel
Gotta love the classics.
Was it really an honest mistake, Cody….. Hmmm??!
Er.... (tugs collar)
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer 😝
Btw the one about ww2 left me like “ok”…. But u didn’t feel like playing ww2…. Strange feeling. Its not A&A…
No - it is not AA for sure.
