You guys really need to get into Corsair Leader (Pacific) or Stuka Leader (Europe) from DVG. It takes a little time to get it down but it really sings when you get into it. Squadron missions management game. Think Warfighter WWII> Stuka Leader as to Undaunted Normandy> Battle of Brittan.
Thank you. I have really wanted to play all of these. DVG is high on my radar of games to play I just go not own any. Although Cody has Pavlov’s House which is one that I have been wanting to borrow and play if I can ever find the time.
I definitely have a love/hate relationship with WW2 as a theme. Mostly finding games that are large scale, but at the same time don't loose the production values you see in your spru ridden (yech!) Flames of War or small scale Company of Heroes. I also find it sort of frustrating that there aren't any war games (like Axis and Allies) games that focus on the tech race. Sort of the 'what if Germany got the Tiger out in 41 but that meant building less Panzer IVs... My favorites right now are Axis and Allies, and the sadly discontinued Tide of Iron. The world war era is full of crazy ideas and prototypes, but that very tech race is generally very much ignored.
Good job Ray. Loved the Memoir 44 story. Thank you dad for his service. I was 18 in 1974 in High School so I was not drafted. But it has always angered me they way our soliers were treated when they came home. My first game was Risk and back ib those days my luck with dice was great. Now days if I have to rely on luck I lost. If you should want to try Advanced Squad Leader (a Game I love). I would say try to pick up Squad Leader. Because of it strucured learning read a couple pages play the 1st scenairo, read a couple more play the next etc. It gets you playing fast. You have the US, Germany & Russia. But if wand to go further you now have the first 4 boards. The nice thing is if its not for you, you save a lot of time and money. The rules do change but you get the idea and its basically the same game.
Thank you and I will relay the message to my dad. Are you talking about the new release of ASL? It is a game I have always wanted to play again as well as Panzer Blitz. Please give me a link of the Squad Leader I should play.
Top Ten lists are just so much fun to watch! As the viewer, you get to see maybe some games you didn't know about, and if games you have turn up the list, it's just so cool. No Top Ten lists are ever the same, which just makes watching them a no brainer, because you always get to see something new. It's a great hobby, and I love to see people in it share their favs! Great vid!🍻 Wings of War is what the game was when Nexus released it. When Ares bought it, they rebranded it Wings of Glory. My "Great Purge" saw my game count (stand alone games) go from 254+ to 82. Thanks to Noble Knight! Memoir 44' is a much under appreciated game. The game can be played in many modes: normal, overlord and breakthrough. It is so easy to teach to non war gamers, which makes it one of those games that can bring in new war gamers to the hobby. It's 20 years old, and still chugging along.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I'm going with the Tom Vasel 100 game max idea. At 82 games, I'm "weapons free" to add 18 games! Special shout out to Noble Knight games for taking a "purge" from a difficult situation to a win-win situation! Regarding the end of your vid, how about those new A&A hit dice!
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Yep! Saw your review, and the hit dice are a great addition to A&A! My "Great Purge" started in June, and my last batch of trade ins is sitting here, boxed and ready, waiting on reply from KN. A 4 month purge is a helluva thing! No regrets though, first world problem all the way.
Thank you. I have taught many people how to play Memoire 44 and also used it as a catalyst to get more people into the hobby. Wings of war was the same for me as it was used to teach a lot of people. Plus I just love the program mechanic. That is one large purge and I am not sure that I could part with that many games. I have different groups of games for different play groups.
Had no idea you’re in Boise! Born and raised here. Lots of history for me. The beautiful Bronco field was green, Harrison Boulevard was NOT the destination of trick or treaters as it is now, grew up in the north end. Great place to live! Maybe someday we can meet for coffee and discuss a few games!
We love hardcore games like TI4, GF9 Dune, Forbidden Stars, Anachrony and similar games, but War Room is a beast what even scares my team too. I would love to give it a shot tho.
Thank you. when I was a kid my dad also taught me chess as that was his favorite game. I was never a fan but always played it with him when he wanted to play. Several years ago I taught my dad kamisado as I prefer that to chess and he also enjoyed that one as well.
Undaunted Series is amazing. Osprey just need to pull their head in and make boxes/inserts that sleeved cards fit in. Every time it is the massive negative on boards and reviews and they don’t learn.
Top review guys. Great parady Ray. Love the fact you got to play with your dad, too. As for your list: own 'Stalingrad' and 'Memoir 44', have played 'Wings of War' and 'Black Orchestra' and, like yourselves, can recommend them all. Have you considered 'The Dark Summer' or 'Ostkrieg' as potential inclusions? That said, you've intrigued me with your review enough for me to now go look at 'Iron, Blood, Snow & Mud'; 'A&A Guadalcanal'; 'Dutch Resistance', along with 'Freezing Inferno'. Thanks for the review.
I am really hoping a new edition of Black Orchestra will be announced soon. I thought it was going to happen but no further information. I back Orange Shall overcome on the recent kickstarter, so that’s one to look forward to.
Fun video, I thought! Thanks for sharing it. I especially liked the section with Memoir '44. I love Black Orchestra, too! Tell me which city I need to be looking for work in!!! 😆😆😆
Will you be reviewing War Story: Occupied France? I've just learnt about this Osprey game and it's really spiked my interests more than any other ww2 game. It looks like it could be a very superb immersive story driven game.
Good God. NOT ONE of your games would make it to my top 20. Carriers!, Up Front, Tokyo Express, Raid on St. Nazaire, B-17: QotS, Combat, ANY NUMBER of DVG solo games, RAF (Both versions), Patton's Best, Picket Duty, Target for Today/Tonight, Ambush, Squad Leader, Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader, Warfighter. Those are ONLY the ones currently in my gaming closet.
Well since I have never really played any games on your list I can see what they are not on mine. I am sure that in another year this list will be totally different as I have really only started playing war games a little over a year ago. Except my #1. That gaming experience with my dad will most likely always keep this game here. Because the gaming experience is what really propels the game. You have a great list and thanks for sharing.
