SBEM Walk-Through: What You Need to Know - ATSPACE

What is SBEM?
So, we are going to do a quick walk through, talk through, so by the end of the video, you'll know exactly what it is. So, SBEM stands for Simplified, Building, Energy, Model. It's similar to a SAP, which is what we use to assess domestic buildings. SBEM will assess commercial buildings now. Commercial buildings fall under the building regulations L2A and L2B, which are pretty much copies of L1A and L1B, which are for domestic, but they have a few slight alterations between them. So, why do we use a different piece of software, which essentially gives us the exact same output and result? Well, the reason why we do this is because we are assessing a commercial building. We're not looking at the building as a whole, but rather the individual zones with inside it, and just for clarification, a zone means a room. So, for instance, a toilet in comparison to an office area, there are two different zones. The other reason why we would use different pieces of software is also because within commercial premises, there’s a higher likelihood that you will have different types of heating systems, hot water systems, and ventilation and extract systems. So, the SBEM software is a bit more advanced. So, it allows us to factor in these different services and then assign them to the right areas of the building.
