Several factors can damage or compromise mitochondrial function:
    1. **Oxidative Stress:** Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) can damage mitochondrial DNA, proteins, and lipids, leading to impaired function.
    2. **Poor Diet:** Diets high in processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats can contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction by promoting inflammation and oxidative stress.
    3. **Lack of Exercise:** Sedentary lifestyles can decrease mitochondrial biogenesis and impair mitochondrial function.
    4. **Toxins:** Exposure to environmental toxins such as pollutants, heavy metals, and certain chemicals can damage mitochondria and disrupt cellular processes.
    5. **Chronic Stress:** Prolonged stress can lead to dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, resulting in increased cortisol levels, which can negatively impact mitochondrial function.
    6. **Sleep Deprivation:** Inadequate sleep can impair mitochondrial function and reduce energy production.
    7. **Aging:** Mitochondrial function naturally declines with age, leading to decreased energy production and increased susceptibility to damage.
    8. **Genetic Mutations:** Inherited mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) or nuclear DNA can lead to mitochondrial diseases or impairments in function.
By minimizing exposure to these factors and adopting a healthy lifestyle, you can help protect and support mitochondrial health. 🤗❤️🌹🌹🌹🤗

I completely understand! I went into the army and had double and triple amount of vaccines after they lost my records. Then got mono which led to chronic fatigue and then found out I had celiac and after bloodwork I found I have the mthfr gene. Most people don’t done they have mthfr genes which means they may not breakdown the b vitamins well and I always have to take methylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin as b12 and folate not folic acid…I don’t even know how to feel at this point and now I feel beyond terrible if I have carbs..

Same. I had a TBI at 7 years old that was the beginning of the end, and only in my 30s am I realizing this is why I always felt like there was no fuel in my tank, and at 38 my baseline energy levels are around "severe flu" level. Things have started to change after adding mega doses of vitamin D (like 60,000 IU daily), B complex, and 6mg boron supplement.
It's so hard to minimize stress, sleep well, and eat right when I'm parenting 4 high energy kids.

This was me when I wanted to gain muscle mass back in my college years. I had to eat A LOT of food to build muscle but I was chronically tired. Couldn't keep up this lifestyle and ended up going vegan for a few weeks just to try it out. I was surprised by how much energy I had and how "clean" my body and mind felt when I ate mostly whole foods like veggies, fruits, nuts, grains, etc. I am no longer vegan (cant give up cheese and meats) but it showed me that the food we put inside our bodies can have physical and mental impacts. I also stopped caring about gaining muscle and rather just did exercises that I enjoyed. This also had a positive effect in terms of warding off depression. Doctors are too quick to prescribe a quick fix in a pill rather than altering diet/lifestyle first. I cant fault them for doing that too much given they dont learn much about nutrition and diet in med school!

Here's my time saving hack on how to save 11 minutes and 40 seconds. 1. Don't eat sugar for breakfast. 2. Always have sugar as dessert after a meal. "That's all we have time for today". Why? Did your camera battery die? Did UA-cam run out of storage space?

      😂

    • @LG-ff8gb
      @LG-ff8gb 4 місяці тому +57

      Lol here's the rest
Hack 1: Eat foods in the right order
The right order to eat our food in to minimize a meal’s glucose spike is: 1) Fiber, 2) Protein and fats, 3) Starches and sugars.
      Hack 2: Veggie starters
Veggie starters reduce the glucose spike of the meal that follows them. The objective is for the veggie sta er to make up about 30% of the meal.
      Hack 3: Stop counting calories
Counting calories doesn’t necessarily improve health outcomes. And not all calories are equal: calories derived from fructose are more detrimental than those from glucose.
      Hack 4: Savoury breakfast
A savoury breakfast is composed of protein (the centerpiece), fat, ber (if possible), optional starches, and nothing sweet except optional whole fruit (just for taste).
Hack 5: Have any type of sugar, they’re all the same All sugar is made of glucose and fructose. They all have the same impact on our body, so have the one you prefer.
Hack 6: Pick dessert over a sweet snack
If we want to eat something sweet, it’s better for our glucose to have it as dessert after a meal than as a snack between meals.
      Hack 7: Vinegar
Vinegar can be taken as 1 tablespoon in a tall glass of water (with a straw), or as a salad dressing, ideally up to 20 minutes before a meal. This reduces the spike of your meal by up to 30%.
Hack 8: After you eat, move
After your meals, when you can, use your muscles for 10 minutes to reduce the glucose spike of the meal.
Examples: walking, tidying your house, doing calf raises, etc.
Hack 9: If you have to snack, go savoury
Sweet snacks give us pleasure, savoury snacks give us energy. Savoury snacks include proteins, healthy fats, and fiber.
Hack 10: Put “clothes” on your carbs
Putting “clothes” on our carbs means adding protein, fat, or fiber to starches and sugars.
This reduces the speed of glucose absorption in our body.

They always wake up earlier than I do, exercise every single day, attend classes, write assignments on time, do all household chores, work part-time and still have so much energy to pray, plan their diet, religiously carry out their skin care routine and socialize! One thing they have in common is that they drank apple cider vinegar without fail every morning.

I think it’s a mistake to call waking up in the morning and feeling unrefreshed and lacking energy as having “chronic fatigue”. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME) is a real and serious condition, that yes, may have a mitochondrial dysfunction component. Conflating the two diminishes the very real, ongoing struggles with minor daily tasks, inability to exercise, brain fog, and post-exertional malaise that impacts every aspect of life from waking to sleeping. The problem in CFS is not enough coal (ATP), not an inability to burn it. It’s borrowing coal from somewhere else, and always being in deficit and in debt, so having to wait hours or days until the next delivery comes (ie. more ATP production). Managing glucose is very important for most people with CFS/ME also, but please be respectful and use the right terminology. Thanks.

    • @Ayverie4

    • @tyswan
      @tyswan 8 місяців тому +14

@@Ayverie4 Honestly, I think most people have no idea what real fatigue is. When you can’t get out of bed for a week or a month, brushing your teeth is exhausting, when you have to shower the day before your doctors appointment, when you have to lie down to recover from getting dressed, and even eating is too tiring some days. Fatigue is the sort of crushing unending tiredness that ruins your life (sometimes for years). If you have that regularly, then yes, I agree that you have chronic fatigue. If no one knows the reason, and it’s lasted for more than six months, then yes, it may be a symptom of CFS/ME. Or we can agree to disagree.

I think there's always some root cause to cfs. I was for a period of a few years bed ridden due to cfs and orthostatic intolerance. I figured out my cause was due to abusing caffeine and not sleeping well for years because of it, my body started to break down and eventually I got h pylori and gut dysbiosis from eating like absolute crap during that period with cfs and h pylori. Quit caffeine and started getting actual deep sleep and 80% of the fatigue lifted. Currently have about 20% daily fatigue and I think the only way to rid of that is fixing the gut dysbiosis with better diet. I'm glad I was able to get my life back but unfortunately not everyone is able to find the cause of theirs and it's very sad because I know how life altering and debilitating cfs can be.

Unfortunately, she isn't telling you the whole story.
And, on top of that, she is trying sell supplements to you that won't want if you knew the whole story.
What she isn't telling you is that the "train" can actually make and supply it's own coal in the exact right amount at the exact right time as long as you stop laoding coal onto the train from the outside.
In other words, your body can make its own glucose, and it is really, really good at it. As long as you don't add glucose from the outside, your body will perfectly balance its glucose.
This processes is called gluconeogenesis - making glucose from protein.
So, the whole story is that you don't need to eat any carbs ever. As long as you are eating protein, your body will make all the carbs it needs and will never overload your "train".
But if she told you this, you would realize the that instead of spending your money on her supplements, you could simply eat less carbs and you would fix all your glucose issue.
Basically, it's like selling pills to someone who drinks too much alcohol In order to slightly reduce the damage they are doing to themselves, instead of just telling the people to stop drinking alcohol.
What she is doing is closer to enabling long-term addiction than it is to health care In my opinion.

@bloom4096 what is me/cfs? I try to follow all of them but the main thing for me was cutting sugar. Now I only eat various types of whole foods, meals rich with veggies, oil and fat and drink water or milk, milk based products like yogurt. No fast foods, no junk foods, no food with preservatives, no extra dressings or flavors as raw as possible with pepper, salt and powder dressings only based on natural ingredient such as Paprika, oregano...etc. Incorporated vinegar and as well as cumin. Eat only when I am hungry. My inflammation, eczema and skin irritation all have gone down as well. Brain fog has been cleared as well. Can sleep better too since I don't have trouble digesting food. Used to take me 30 min for each bathroom use but now it's only a minute. Much less lethargic, lost some body fat, my body started feeling like my body in my 20s, light and agile. Mind you I have always been sporty and in shape most of my life.
It has been two months now since changing my diet. At first it was hard cutting all sugar cuz I had very sweet tooth, loved eating cakes and milkshakes. My body was craving for the sugar and persevered through the craving now that my body feels great and now my mind knows that sugar and other simple carbs were making my life miserable my mind doesn't want sugar as well though it knows it will feel temporary pleasure. It's so weird

    Hi Jessie-Angel,
thank you for this 13th science show. You have already explained these facts in a podcast that I have seen/listened to.
But it's always very interesting how you explain the connections in our body and when what happens and how.
I love science and when you explain it, it's even better. 🥰
I've already learnt so much from you.
    Thank you for that.
If there was a subject for nutrition in school, then you should explain this to the children (and their parents) so that they have the chance to grow up as healthy as possible.
Sending you lots of love and hugs,
    🤗❤😘💋

i feel like there are so many more things we can do to improve mitochondrial function other than avoid blood sugar spikes! spikes in blood sugar after eating are normal -- of course we should aim to have well-balanced diets and meals to avoid excessive spikes, but the fear of blood sugar spikes for non-diabetics is likely overrated.
TLDR; i found the suggestions in the comments more helpful than the few in the video :-(

So, having coffee after a meal reduces blood sugar spikes and the fatigue that can follow. I have read that waiting for at least one hour after a meal to have coffee helps in another way to reduce fatigue. It prevents the coffee from depleting iron that we consumed with that meal we had an hour or more previously.

there's something I don't understand. You mentioned that in the morning , when you wake up, you might feel fatigue. I assume that is before breakfast. Where is this fatigue coming from ? since one would have fasted for the duration of the night while sleeping, there is no glucose spike when one wakes up in the morning. In your video, your main point is that glucose spike causes fatigue.

I always watch stuff like this thinking they've come to some revolutionary conclusion based on the research but always get disappointment when they switch to "buy my supplement" mode.
Like, I get it, you need to make money, but nothing in that supplement you've made costs that much money. Just eat a balanced meal and none of this is an issue. Even just eating your vegetables and proteins first before eating the carbs on your plate does the same thing as this. Actually because of how pills work, eating real food is MUCH better than it will ever be. Lemon extract can be replaced with vinegar by the way. Any mild acid will do the trick. Everyone wants a pill to replace the responsibility of taking care of themselves, but the fact is you just need to eat better, and eat slower. A wild concept, I know.

  • @ThePCExpertAmateur
    @ThePCExpertAmateur 7 місяців тому

Hi, Jessie I've been struggling with insane sleepiness and brain fog, and I've figured it out - my body is either over-producing insulin, or it's just too darned good at storing away sugar, leading to a sugar deficit (hypoglycemia). I tried vinegar, but that wasn't a good idea. Things that delay sugar entering the blood stream just delay the inevitable problems. The only way to avoid the problem entirely is to entirely avoid sugar sources, even in the form of starches. This is proving quite problematic and I actually was given a final written warning last November at Amazon KCVG when I fell asleep repeatedly while on light duty (due to a work injury not caused by sleepiness, which only affects me with yawns when I'm physically active). The ONLY thing that stops the sleepiness and abates the brain fog is to take a nap and, if I don't, it can be quite a long time before my glycemic state returns to normal.
This is both dangerous (imagine driving and acting similarly to one with narcolepsy) and frustrating (trying to produce a YT video but being unable to work, think clearly or stay on task).
I would love to hear your thoughts on what I can do!

Vitamin D, Iodine, get a sleep test to sleep if you have sleep apnea.

Sounds like you have same symptoms as me from systemic candida. Try raw vegan diet with low fat or candida diet with supplements. Research this. It's helping me clean my body, lose weight, clear brain fog and have more energy.

@@Pablito5614 I have sleep apnea - it's not the issue at all. I take vit D, and this predates going pescetarian, so it's not about iodine. Do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

@ThePCExpertAmateur check your vitamin D levels make sure your levels aren't above what they should be since you take the supplements. Too much will cause horrible symptoms. Also if you have sleep apnea make sure your get that treated either with cpap or surgery, lack of sleep ruins energy. Also with iodone you'll never know exactly where you're at until you get you levels checked. You can use Quest or Labcore to order your own vitamin/mineral panel without a doctor. Get one that checks your A, D, B12, Iodine, Thyroid, Magnesium.

@@Pablito5614 Thanks for the tips, Pablito. Again, it's not my sleep apnea - I know what that does to me, and this is very different. I totally get why you think that, but it's nutrition-related. It doesn't matter whether or not I use my CPAP, the problem still happens.
I don't take vit. D every day, so I'm not ODing, but that's an excellent point.

When you use the term Chronic Fatigue are you talking about the debilitating condition ME, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis? Also known as CFS Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Or are you talking about fatigue as a symptom or being tired?
