I actually like the Maxon A LOT more. Seems way more versatile. The clean boost option is also a plus
+JayValorMusic While it's not mentioned in the video, the Klon has the same kind of dual pot for gain control and takes out the gain entirely when at 0 in the same way. Still prefer the Maxon to it though.
The Maxon sounded smoother.
One pedal reaches mythical heights and the other pedal is barely known, yet there isn’t much difference in greatness
Great channel, you give some of the best realistic sound's of whatever product you are demoing.
I've owned both pedals for years and never could figure out which one I like better. Great demo as usual. My KTR is more picky with various amps. My OD820 seems to like every amp it plugs into. I've heard the opposite from some people. Who knows, who cares.
Love the Maxon! .................. sounds more organic and "singy" to me
....... love the shorts too!
In fact I often play my guitar in my shorts!
............. so does Angus Young!
............... shorts are very comfortable
Maxon: +1 for drive
Klon: +1 for clean boost / transparency
Overall? Klon into Maxon for the win... We can pick both right?
yes
The OD-820
Is an absolutely beautiful sounding pedal. I love the vintage overdrive sound.
The Klon is also a great pedal, I mean so many people love them…I myself am not a huge fan, but I love a Tube Screamer.
Great Video and I am ordering a OD-820 today.
I have my KTR first in basically clean/full boost mode - just a tad of OD. I never turn it off. Then my 820 is right after it, and that's what I use for overdriven leads,
I like the transparency and clarity of the Klon.
Maxon is transparent one here I’d you can not hear.
Excellent. Thank you so much for the review. Very helpful!
Would have been nice to hear them at the same drive level. Still think I like the Maxon best though, seems more lively, a little less stiff maybe. People always want to compare the Klon with the EHX Soul Food, if they are similar, I really don't care for the Soul Food (very stiff), so I probably won't like the Klon. MAXON FOR THE WIN!!!!!
I like em both. 1. If I could afford ktr I would have them both 2. Due to cost I prefer maxon 3. I have warm audio centavo so actually I have the sound of ktr 4. I just got also maxon vop9 and together with OD 9 AND SD 9 my maxon collection is fine. Nice video btw
apart from the nasty ringing on the reverb, both sound great.
So I have well built clones of both of these. I run my Klon as a boost, very little gain. It pushes my blues junior into some creamy drive when I play harder, and cleans up with my volume knob.
The 820 is a more mid-focused drive. It adds more gain, more compression, and a TS like midrange boost. They play well together.
I need to amend my comment from a year back, lol. I still use both of these (clones). The main amp I use at church is a friend's Peavey Valve King 100. It's pretty squeaky clean, and the bright switch is too shrill. The klon clone is now run as a bright boost. Some slight volume and bright, yet balanced. Main rhythm dirt drive is a Boss BD-2 I modded, making it much improved and very balanced and transparent. Great for big chords. I add the 820, which I modded with burr brown opamps and 1n914 diodes, which the builder had not used to make it different. He did a great job, but my tastes have changed some now. The 820 is great alone or with the BD and klon.
@@jr0706 can u share the layout of your clone to my email?
I honestly have no definitive favorite between the two...For some reason I do lean towards the Klon KTR.
Maxon of course!... sorry mr. Klone
I use Klon in to Maxon. Beauty.
+Drew Townson and it produces an astonishing hybrid of intercourse and art.
Drew Townson I use my klon clone into my 820 clone. Sounds amazing. I use the klon more as a boost, and to add some sparkle to the clean tone on my amp (modded 60s Harmony H303A). Though in church today, where I use a Peavey Valve King 100, I used all klon, and it pushed the amp into creamy territory.
Im curious, which has more bass?
Thanks
Both awesome, I'd choose the Klon.
Thanks not a fan of reverb on shootouts for gain pedals though.. I am gonna make a maxon and compare it to my my gold and silver Klons I made. The maxon has that huge mid hump like a tube screamer.I like both of them . I am gonna split the volume pot so clean and dirty can be blended for the ultimate tones
Thanks for the video. I consider the Klon Mythology hilarious. My Maxon causes panties to drop. Good luck!
Kloonは密度が濃く輪郭のハッキリした音で、Maxonは良い意味で隙間を感じるエアー感があって、どちらも堪らない…!!
原音のブレンドの有無の違いなのだろうか??
Thanks for another great review! Great klon style OD video. Klon KTR v, Maxon OD820 v EHX Soulfood. The battle continues
I’m late to the party but do you have them both at 9V? I think the Maxon is 18V compatible.
Klon, definitely.
Everyone’s ears are different! Bc to me the OD-820 sounds egregiously bad next to the KTR. Dull clean boost, and silly grittiness compared to the Klon’s drive. Just IMO.
Any thoughts on the VOP-9 vs the 820?
Maxon says they're the exact same pedal but with different housings. I own both and there's something slighltly more vintage about the 820.... and I mean BARELY perceptible. The VOP9 has an internal switch for 9v or 18v. I keep it at 18v. Never checked my 820 to see if it has the same internal voltage switch, but I think it internally converts it to 18v by default.
They both soud really good,
maybe its the compression/codec-ing in youtube but all these overdrive demos always sound really close to me. Either that or since they are both higher end they are both just really good. Anyway good job Shane :)
Maxon wins as you turn up the drive as you can hear your main guitar right on top of it while the Klon turns more fuzzy. It's minor though they are both good.
Maxon
I've been watching your videos for a few months now and, first of all, I love your demos; they're very thorough. However, I have to say I don't like the tone of that Little Crow guitar. It sounds kind of boxy to my ears. Not sure if that makes any sense. Of course, it's your guitar and you seem to really like it, so more power to you!
Maxon!
Too much reverb and your intonation is off. hard to listen...
Too much reverb in the signal for a demo. Good demo otherwise.
Holy crap you have hair lol
Mason probably way cheaper.
