- Here are two of the most hyped pedals around. The King of tone by Analogman and the Klon KTR Overdrive Pedals.
Let me know what you think.

I just bought the Klon from this video alone. This comparison is the best on the web right now. Now I'm broke. Thanks Klon. On the bright side when my kid inherits my gear he'll be glad I did
same 7 years later... thank's ktr
That Klon lasting you? 😂
i love how clear the KoT is. its really the only deciding factor between these two amazing pedals for me.
Both are Great , no winner or loser
Finally, someone used a little reverb with the KTR! Thanks!
Both fantastic pedals and they stack really well together.
The Klon works better as a boost after dirt, rather than an OD pedal. Place it after a tube screamer (or something of your choice). Set the tube screamer at unity gain and the tone you want. Then run it into the Klon. Leave the Klon "gain" low to off, the tone knob at 12 and use the level to boost your amp. Adjust the tone knob to taste. The boost does something magical that is different than any other boost.
I can tell you from experience that the Klon as a boost after the King of Tone is magic!
Both amazing pedals, you can't lose either way. Why not get both (and eat ramen noodles for the next year or so)
Dimefan91 They'd sound great together!
Dimefan91 thats what im doing.
Dimefan91 I don’t like noodles? That’s why
This was a great review!!! Thanks Shane!!!!
I think you only compared it to the "Clean Boost" side of the KOT (unless you flipped the switches, but factory setting is Clean Boost). Would be interesting to see the KTR vs the right side of the KOT (which is set to overdrive in factory settings)
if you flip the internal switches both up you'd get more distortion which is what the klon has over the king of tone in just overdrive mode
I own the klon , great pedal I'm also on the list for a KOT
They both sound good if you stack them i bet it'll sound great
I'm anxiously waiting! :)
Great use of the pedals...
Sounds great.
The Klon is big on character and charm, but I prefer the articulation and sweet high-mids of the KOT. Loooovely.
Really nice demo. To my (damaged) ears, the Klon has an upper-midrange emphasis that doesn't sound as nice as the KoT. I'm on the list for the KoT. Hope I can afford it when my number comes up. In the meantime, it's the Soul Food and East River Drive... ;)
+Edward J. Rodriguez I'm on the list as well. I'm using a Menatone Blue Collar. It won't replace it though, just different drives.
Edward J. Rodriguez Hope your number came up! I sold 9 pedals to a local shop (fast but took a big loss) to afford mine when my number came up after over a year...MAN WAS IT WORTH IT! It actually lives up to the near-impossible hype! Thing is, it sounds great at every gain level with any guitar or amp. Will never sell mine (and for $20.00, I could get it in black. Also worth it!).
The Klon s buffer is going to make the KoT sound better unless you shut it off.
Can we have less of the "vs." type demo's and more of the "what if we stack these two awesome overdrives"...
The KoT isn't complicated at all, it's two pedals in one enclosure, each with 3 knobs. I wish he'd used both sides together. The KTR did sound very nice in this demo-more cutting slightly. I do hate the writing but this demo makes me want to try one. I have the KoT and it's never left my board.
lpdog Run the KTR into the KoT. Everything sounds great run into mine). Even a gain-maxed EQD Cloven Hoof fuzz into my KoT gives a killer Neil Young exploding Deluxe sound!
🤔 2:00 1:36
2:41 2:56
4:34 4:44
Ts9 🤣
Thats a hard one, they both sound great
Bugera V22 proud owner here ;) I'd love to hear some bluesy pedals with this amp.
That would be good man!
KOT definitely imo
Hi, cool demo! Have you tried whampler Tumnus? how does is compair with KTR? which one has more low mids?
Bio NLP I use the Tummy before my KOT. I use it as a separate boost. If I use the tummy with the KOT
, my drummer screams for mercy. It's very funny... the tummy is very close to the OD side of the KOT. Before the KOT, I had the tummy and the Wampler Euphoria. Btw I play originals with sounds of Social Distortion and Reverend Horton Heat, through a Supro Coronado (and a LP).
Great Demo!! Please, try a shootout of these 2 vs the Lovepedal Kalamazoo!!!
You will not regret it!!!!
Keep up the good blues rollin'!!!
Very cool comparison between those two great pedals. But why do you feel that the KoT is more complicated to operate than the Klon? Both have the same exact controls, it's just that the KoT has two duplicate sets/channels of them.
This video is pretty old mate. I meant more-so if you are playing live, the Klon is really simple to adjust without having to think about it.
@@intheblues The Klon would certainly be easier on a dark stage based on the contrast of the knob color to the body.
Screw the hype, I'm getting a KoT! :3
Cue Zephyr Hope you got one! Got mine after over a year's wait and WELL WORTH IT! After too many overdrives, I'm finally very happy with my tone with every guitar and amp.
Dean Teiwaz Great! Did you get the standard version or did you get a modified one? They're at July now and I signed up in December, so I still have to wait a few months. I'm sure it will be worth it. :)
Cue Zephyr Glad you're on the list! I got mine with the higher gain option on both sides and the optional black color with gold printing. Black is my color and my KoT is beautiful! The higher gain option gives a bit more range to the gain settings. It will still give you the same lower gain settings as the standard, but the higher gain settings have more drive. Running one side into the other will give you all the gain you need, unless you play Death Metal. I recommend the higher gain option. Hope your name reaches the top of the list sooner than you expect! It's worth it.
Dean Teiwaz Thanks for replying. I'm about halfway through the list I think, they're at July and I signed up in December. I still haven't decided if I"m gonna go stock or high gain on one or both sides. I do like the purple though, so I'm probably gonna stick with that. :)
Purple is the classic color. Can't miss it on someone's board, and may start some cool conversations about your great tone...I'm just more of a stealthy guy than most, I guess.
Ever own/play a Lovepedal Eternity? Wonder how it would compare to some of these you work with. I love my Lovepedals, but haven't heard them next to one of these ...
So is the right half of the KOT the same as the left? No idea from this one, I'll have to seek out other reviews of KOT... but they are both lurvely as they are shown here...
Not really. I use one side as a boost and the other as an overdrive on mine. Mine is a clone of the KOT using the exact same board, but there are switches on the inside of each side that give you the ability to change between high gain and low gain. Even though mine isn't an official KoT, it is the exact same other than the color of the housing. After using it the first time, I promptly sold off 2 Tubescreamers and a TC Electronic MojoMojo that I no longer have any use for.
So I guess, technically, you can set them the same if you want to
King of Tone has my vote.
To me , the way you have them set, the Klon sounds thicker.
The KOT has internal switches and treble pots to tinker with to really focus ur EQ and tone.
I don’t think the KLON has that. I had an archer for a short while, hated it - and returned it. But I may look to get an original Silver KLON if one comes up online.
My KOT does not have that much gain on that side of the pedal.. How do you have the dip switch set on the inside?
I can do that :)
would be great, these blind tests are really a great idea :)
Shane one question for you - do you have any experience with the Bugera amps? I played the V22 in my music store and it sounded KILLER, especially the clean channel boosted with an overdrive. Supposedly these amps have some reliability issues, but the value for many is unbeatable. Any comments on that? :) Thanks!
They both sound great but I think I'll stick to my East River Drive! That thing sounds great and didn't cost me an arm and a leg! Haha
Vincent Lema that was developed by analog.mike with EHX. It’s a spot on 808
KOT = 2 Marshall Bluesbreakers
Johan B Two heavily-modded Bluesbreakers!
same price too =.O
@@whynottalklikeapirat KoT is $255
Anybody can buy a King of Tone pedal, just save a little out of each check. It will take about a year for the KOT so there ya go :-) It's just money guys :-)
both pedals are great ...
Some people buy a beautiful expensive tube amp then stick one of these in front of it 🙃. Then say I wouldn’t be seen dead playing through a tranny amp. Considering the price,in a band down the local bar could you really appreciate or justify it. Hey….. who’s fooling who ? Just saying. Good stuff Shane 👏👏👍
well, I need that KTR...
My Ethos Amp Pedal cost over $800 with the latest HRM mod plus all the others. It is useable.
What many don't know (or realize) is the Klon is a transparent distortion, which at the time of its release set it apart from (pretty well) all other distortion pedals at the time. It blends in the original signal, keeping all those nuanced characteristics of your guitar. Most Klon clones today do a good job of mimicking the circuit, so you don't need to sell a kidney to afford something that sounds damn close to the original. Do your research before breaking the bank!
I really don't know, The Klon sounds very pure.. but the KOT has so much variety.. there just isn't much difference.
Don't play jazz dom 13th chords with that sound !
sorry boss! :-P
intheblues Dont be a jerk Airbloom. Nice demo pal you play whatever the fuck chords you want
Airbloom Amplifiers ...ur probably the same dude that said " don't mix peanut butter with jelly" ....do us all a favor ... Shut up !
intheblues ....no apologies....love ur videos , thx mate "
Klon is the winner!!
wow these are pricey, can you do a video of a pedal board full of reasonably priced pedals that the average guy can afford on our meager wages.
the kot is a klon of the klon ktr .klon was first and was made first.end off.
The kot sounds nothing like the klon ktr
Klon is much better
Klondike win it man
king of tone all the way!
Totally different pedals. Not really a good comparison.
Thomas Dunleavy Totally? K.o.T. has a bit more growl, but both have that slight midrange push thing going on...I've got the K.o.T. but never played the Klon. Maybe they respond differently?
Klon is more mid forward
Don't post stupid comments
I mean a pedal with 3 buttons vs. pedal with like 10?
