1983 Ibanez TS9 vs Maxon OD-820 Overdrive Pro
Gibson Les Paul P90
Vox Ac30
Which AC30 are you using? Pedals usually sounds much better on the normal channel.
Its a English AC30 TB/6 from 2000 i use the brilliant channel
shnobel Try to use the normal channel. Pedals sound much better this way. Especially when recording.
Best comparison ever - the others just talk talk talk...
There's a lot of confusion about the OD820. It's essentially a tubescreamer but with more output level, a charge pump to give a split rail supply to the op-amps and the gain pot is dual gang. This simultaneously blends between the mid focused (720Hz) soft clipping stage when turned up and a wider band clean boost when the gain pot is turned down and a mix of the two in between. Imagine a Klon mixed with a tubescreamer. This is why the OD820 sounds very similar to the TS9 when the gain is cranked (albeit with more output level from the 820).
Where’s the confusion?
superb review. exactly what i needed to decide which of the two to get. thanks man!
Maxon has better Harmonic content. The Ibanez sounds a-little-more "Fizzy" - You made them both sound Good though. I'd like to hear the Maxon vs The Fulltone OCD.
Another Useful Demo. Enjoyed it. - Michael Caz - NYC -
No contest....od820 by far
I like the Maxon, it seems to have more roar,
Maxon made the original tube screamers, so of course theirs is going to sound better.
Both are Maxon. The Ibanez sounds better. Cheer fuckin Snobs!
Sweet demo bro.
Love the leather jacket and Marshall stacks. That 820 sound amazing. That TS9 is the worst I’ve heard, besides the late 90s ones. I’ve got a current production TS9 and it’s fantastic.
Maxon wins
Not really a fair comparison. The Od820 is top of the line.
Overdrive pro ? Your favorite right?
Problem?
I like the Marshall stacks in the background
OD-820!! The TS9 is great for amps that are lacking to begin with. the TS9 is not warm enough for amps that are modded or already built with a boost. Good demo though.
Nice, the od820 sounded smoother to the ears but the ts9 had a nice punchy low midrange.
pick accident :) it's vintage lp ?
its a 2010 Lp Studio 50's Tribute
virtually no difference.
kudos to the player for quickly A/B -ing the two so your ear doesn't get too wrapped up in one sound.
you can always eq your tone at the end of your signal chain to bring out more highs or lows.
both pedals rock.
keep in mind,a 1983 Ts9 will run you $$$
RubHerSoul1 check Your ears.
They sound really different more so than I ever expected
@@lyfeviv4490 - another pedal snob. Dood. You need to check YOUR ears.
xmandlt xmandlt I'm not a snob. The OD-820 imparts a noticably different sentiment beyond EQ. It's more of a Klon than a Tube Screamer. I should add, when using in front of a high output tube amp, these pedals shine more... I don't consider AC30 loud. Diezel Herbert with two 4x12's is loud. And an OD820 in front does better than a TS everytime.
@@lyfeviv4490You're right. The pedals do sound considerably different. I prefer the TS9 because I don't need the bass frequencies that were removed (for a reason) in a band situation. The 820 does sound a little better when you're playing by yourself, whereas the TS9 does a better job of cutting through in a band mix. I hate seeing the TS9 getting almost no love here.
The Ibanez sounds like a toy compared to the Maxon!
I think everyone knows that the Maxon OD 820 played a much more crucial role in the outcome of world war 2 and the subsequent surrender of the German and Japanese armies . No Brainer
This demo does little to show the function of an OD. Your using the pedals as a distortion. The purpose of an overdrive is to get tube saturation and preferably touch dynamics. Can you use an OD as a distortion? Don't be a dip shit, that's it's simplest form. Get into the nuances of what it can do.
Seriously man ditch the leather jacket, the sweep bang image and the stacks behind you and focus on what the pedal is able to do. Do not produce fodder.
