If you have a transmission that is sealed and the fluid is lifetime fluid. Make sure to get the fluid changed at 60000 miles or that transmission will go out.. sealed transmissions are not sealed transmission you can still flush them and you most definitely should.. no transmission fluid is lasting a human lifetime it's only 60,000 miles is there lifetime on transmission fluid

Also take note: If you get an OBD code showing bad camshaft sensor….it’s not. It’s really a bad diode in the alternator. Just get a new alternator…replacing the cam sensor won’t fix it.

One of my annoying problems was the ridiculous plastic thermostat housing that would split and leak. Once I got the aftermarket metal housing, I never had another problem with it.

My v6 had two previous owners before me, first was for 4 years, then second for 10 years. It has 93k when I got it in 2020 and for $4k not a bad deal. I haven't had any major issues other than the thermostat housing that I replaced with an aluminum one. Everything I have changed like a suspension rebuild and a new radiator was because I can. Best to avoid problems ahead of time. So long as you do preventative maintenance, and replace parts that are now 14 years old...its a pretty solid cruiser with new sway bars and lowering springs. These cars are kinda old now so expect it to be a bit of a project car regardless of low miles. It's a pretty easy platform to work on for a first time car owner like me and the aftermarket is plentiful. I'm getting a 2014 GT next time tho lol.

Had my 06 GT 4.6 about 4 years now. Most annoying is the water infiltration. I removed the cowls and cleaned out the drains, very clogged. Heavy rain = more water. I found where the ECU wiring enters the car by the passenger kick plate. I removed the pass front wheel and fender skirts, sealed the opening with caulk. The rubber grommet is made with a split to wrap around the bundled wires and was not sitting properly in the hole. So far so good. Been through 2 Interstate batteries, under warranty but a hassle to deal with. Shifting was little hard so I drained and filled with Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid and added 2 Oz of Ford friction modifier (changed my diff fluid and put 6 oz in diff, come is 4 Oz bottle from Ford), this helped my shifting a lot. Hurst short throw shifter. Other than that she is a very fun ride, now looking for a few mods and a Bama tune.

  • @ravagingwolverine

I have a 2006 Mustang GT manual and I'll share my issues. I've had many of the common problems with the car, though I have been lucky in that I've driven a lot more miles than others who have had the same issues. The leading edge of my hood has considerable paint flaking. I've had the failing alternators. In one case, my failing alternator was giving a camshaft sensor code. I've had the water entry issues. Water in the car for me was the cowl drains a couple of times, but also the holes for the cowl clips. I've experienced the broken spark plugs. I had a fuel line going to the rail spring a leak suddenly. A year ago, the plastic piece that attaches the rod to my clutch pedal cracked in half(this is a bad problem to have, luckily I was in the driveway). Now, I seem to be having electrical problems, such as things turning on by themselves and possible parasitic draw(lost two batteries since mid 2020). I think this is due to the water inside the car in the past and corrosion it caused. I'm going to use a battery disconnect to keep from losing a third battery in a hurry. Pretty much all the problems I mentioned are considered common ones for the car with the options I have.

The only problems I've had with my 2006 GT were trying to remove the OEM spark plugs, cross-contamination on the hood which looks like rust, and inside door covers coming off. Ford actually put out service bulletins on all 3 of these issues but they wouldn't fix any of them for free.

    1) Go Straight Piped
    2) Get a manual trans
    3) Get some meaty cams and do the timing chain and lifters when you do it
    4) Locking aftermarket gas cap anyways
    5) do your reg maintenance

  • @alphawolf4714

Ya'll need to distinguish that the throttle body issue is V6. At about 100k I'm running into the Cat breakdown and throttle issues on my 4.0L myself. Easy fixes: Straight pipe and tune. But the V8 4.6L dual throttle bodies don't suffer the EGR and Throttle body issues. Most of the people aren't master techs like me :/

My 2008 ford mustang when I got it had its inside door panels fallen out. I looked it up and realized it was a common problem. I didn’t have the old leather ones when I got the car so I ordered some plastic ones online and tried to remove as much of the previous adhesive as possible. Then I applied new adhesive to the new ones and put them on there and it’s not exactly perfect but 1000% better than it was before. I currently face a P0422 code or small Evap emission problems which I haven’t looked into that much 😅. If anyone has had similar problems with this issue let me know .

Biggest issues with these cars are the manuals chewing threw third gear. Paint flaking on the sides of the rear window exposing bear metal. AC accumulator rotting because of trapped water in its housing. Flaking paint on hood and sticking sparkplugs prior to head redesign in early 08. Also the plastic eyelet for the clutch master cylinder breaking off.

Ford has a TSB regarding the water leaks...the drains are only the start of the issue. On my o5 had to repair the seals around the cowl clips and replace the seals under the top door trim. I heard replacing the timing chain tensioners every 60k miles will help. You also missed the park brake lines seizing up. Also the poor venting on the fuel tank TSB issued), at many gas pumps I have to hold the nozzle at 90 to 180 degrees so it will fill. The water leaks, tank vent and brake lines were corrected in later models.

I addressed the water leak problem on my 2006 back in 2014 after tons of water was getting into the car. I've been driving it without the carpet since 2011. I even pulled the fender off to try to find the source of the leak. Just as you said, the source of the leak were the holes for the cowl clips. I hadn't seen any info regarding that back when I worked on it. That was such an annoying problem to troubleshoot and I was able to live with the water coming in for years as I would drain it as needed, but it finally got to a point where the amount of water getting in was too much.

ive had nothing but bad luck with my v6 thankfully i got it for free from my brother since he hadent driven the car for a couple of years because of the transmission, it was a rental and has had 7 owners, my trans slips, my converters broke, it stalls sometimes when it slips gears, somethings wrong with my horn i just havent cared to diagnose it yet, pretty sure my head gasket is blown or nobody ever did a coolant flush cause my coolant was super brown and had "mud" in it. it also idles fairly rough so my timing chain might have skipped a tooth, a previous owner stripped the head for the first cylinder spark plug, there was water getting in through the firewall, a lot of wires were chewed by mice or something, and other general maintenance stuff like turning my rotors and replacing brake pads, outer tie rods, etc.. it seems like nobody ever did anything to this car before i got my hands on it. ive been slowly but surely fixing it cause i enjoy driving the car and it makes for a good project car. the hardest part is getting the money.......... dont even get my started on the after market security system that either the rental company or a previous owner put in the car, for me to take it all out i need to rip out the entire dash which i really dont wanna do. i know not all 2006 v6 mustangs are like this i just happened to get the bottom of the barrel

The real problem is that people beat the crap out of these cars, which, I understand because it’s a mustang not an old lady car. But if you find one that wasn’t beat, and maintain it properly, it will last.

The timing chain isn't likely to jump. They get loose but not jump. If it actually jumps, you're the one that was driving it with a rattle so bad you caused the damage yourself.
You guys forgot the most common issue. The carbon filter stops up, and you can't get your tank full. The gas pump shuts off from backpressure in the tank.

    • @howardkerr8174
      @howardkerr8174 3 роки тому +4

From looking online, the V6 model SEEMS to be more prone to throttle body failure. Though it appears (again, from online research) that most affected cars had failures before the 60,000 mile mark. If you have this model of Mustang (04-10) there is a good chance the throttle body has been replaced.
Timing chains, if the car is driven hard, along with the guides, are maybe as long lasting with either engine except one of the chains on the V6 can only be accessed with the engine out of the car. (The V6 engine is a design that dates back to the late 60s-early 70s and was not originally an overhead cam design.)
I have a 06 V6 Mustang and an 09 Crown Victoria...the Crown has near 180,000 miles on it and the timing chain is original. The Mustang gets driven a few hundred miles a month, with 47,000 miles on it I am hoping that I never have a chain failure.
Oddly, there was no mention in this video, though other videos have mentioned it, the thermostat housing in the V6 is a 2 piece PLASTIC item that can fail over time. It's located under the throttle body.

I have a 2005GT 5 speed, mineral metallic 70,000miles air raid air cleaner, bolora mufflers and tailpipes.
. I’ve had a lot of issues and want to see if others have also.
Smoking blue out the exhaust at times on start up,
Needed a total front end rebuild @ 60,000miles, struts, shocks, all-ALL ball joints replacement,
The door panel insets had to be re glued,
Water leaking on the passenger floor-at times.
The engine has a Dr Jeckle Mr Hyde personality with drivability issues- jerking the driveline, stalling
The clutch seems to be different and grabby at times ,
The hood seems to be making rust holes/rot beneath the front edge,
Battery power loss over a few weeks...
the dam air doors for the havoc only run the windshield defrost and vents but no the the floor.....
I live in the mid west and don’t drive this car at winter to keep it out of the salt, but dam does it seems to be a lot of maintenance for the low miles and not driven much. I never has been beaten by me but wonder if it was abused before me or is this just what they are?..

Is it a real concern with Timing Chains and automatic Transmissions?
Im considering of buying a late 2008 or 2009 with the 4,6 V8 but that makes me hesitate cause would be quite expensive to fix.
