I imagine that you said it as a joke, but almost every game has a "no major glitchers" category! It is my favorite, I usually ignore all the others. Try watching "Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island", it is an insane run!
The still has a few exploits, just none that can be reliably done in any kind of speedrun. Since they often rely on getting specific combinations of relics and that's not really going to happen. Though i do imagine eventually there will be a speedrun catagory for StS that uses certain game seeds so everybody will effectively be running the exact same spire.
Reminds me of something I heard about Titanfall 2 - apparently some bugfix/rebalancing patch fiddled with a singleplayer speedrun strat, so the devs reverted the fix for singleplayer exclusively
Yeah it was really decent of them, although... I won't name the specific strat but they did patch a couple of speedrun strats that made for some ridiculous runs, but the bugs/exploits undoubtedly massively supercharged normal runs and were very easy to replicate. Now I still think they exist but you need to do something very specific that no-one will accidentally stumble upon but afaik can be replicated by players if they know it.
Big thanks Casey and Anthony for doing this - it's humbling to say the least! I've had the pleasure of talking to them on a handful of occasions too, and they're exactly like this behind closed doors - warm-hearted, unashamedly nerdy goofballs who made a game they never foresaw being this successful and popular and are just kind of riding the wave without having it go to their heads. I no longer stream (real life work, relationships and physical health take precedence) but thanks to IGN's Mark Medina for getting in touch and being fully transparent, giving full credit and all that kinda stuff - super professional, decent bloke. Me: Every spire run is a four hour adventure that sees me mulling over difficult choices for minutes at a time. This guy: Has finished a run in the time it takes me to decide what path to take. Though to be fair, he didn't take on The Heart. Would like to see how that goes for him packing the philosopher's stone and brimstone.
it's nice to see that the hacker from jurassic park survived mostly intact, besides losing his right eye, and now spends his time in a more honest way - speedrunning
"He used the Artifact Potion, comboed with Flex to get permanent strength" - Wait, what? Are you saying you can use an artifact to negate the strength down? I had no idea that worked.
If you look closely at your buffs/debuffs, when you use Flex- you will see, that you do not gain "temporary" strength You gain normal strength and debuff - "remove 2(3) strength at the end of turn" So Artifact can get rid of that debuff
I love these kinds of videos to get an idea of how Developers react and feel to how speedrunners tear through through their game. From what I have seen, it's mixed depending on the developer.
In some cases speedrunners know their games better than they do, people think Speedrunner can just sit to a game and beat it fast but they spend months playing and looking into every little detail, and they have to like the game too obviously, to invest that amount of time.

There’s a reason many games need playtesters, dedicated balance teams, and QA. Sometimes, devs don’t really know what kinds of effects minor decisions in their mechanics can have on the end product, and the most dedicated players are usually the ones who can sniff out the things that fall between the cracks.
@@dc_dachi They probably will understand the game more on a technical level for a lot of games, though. The devs usually only care if it works, and so might not know why what they just did actually made it work while programming.
I think that's to make sure he doesnt mistake where the cursor is at the speed he's going at. In other words, it helps with accuracy and reading when going that fast if you only use one eye because the two images you get from each eye can cross and make things hard to see sometimes, at least at that speed.

Wouldn't surprise me; GF used to play games with a Wacom a few years back since she had a laptop but no mouse to go with it. So her choices were either that or the built-in trackpad. Makes dual-clicking, middle-click, and mouse-scroll a bit of a hassle though.
Huh, if he actionally is, I suppose that would make sense in a way, since you can technially move your pointer around much faster, and since most tablets are very programable, he could hotkey all the important things pretty easily. Makes me want to see if I could try a fps with my tablet.
Seeing the kinds of things that have a "speedrunner community" attached makes me want to develop a game called "navigate 4000 colorful menus and pet a dog"

They have to find record and watch it. Then editing and release. It can take weeks to get a video from recording to release. Especially on a channel with this many videos releasing. This might have been the most recent world record at the time of recording.
A lot devs don't mind glitches in general If they're glitches you'll never encounter casually but make speedruns faster a lot of them just think it's cool

I love seeing people completely destroy games like this. Im going into game development and this pleases me. Not to mention it also can help devs find certain game breaking exploits that can hurt the game as well as open their eyes to the ways in which certain mechanics intertwine. Speedruns are actually really insightful for both watchers as well as devs

looks up jorbs on youtube follow his card picks and listen to his spire chats, you will get to ascension 20. beating the double boss is another story. i have tried 30 runs now and still have not done it.

He didn't beat the game in 5 minutes, he did a run in 5 minutes. There are 4 characters and 21 difficulty levels. BTW he was playing on ascension zero, which is the easiest difficulty.
For any game developer that reads this, the attitude expressed of "speed running bugs are rare so why would we fix them?" Is the right attitude. Most people will play a game 2 or 3 times and move on. Speed runners will spend years on one level to grind up there skill. Look at doom and ledges and how many of us spent years trying to get the skill just to walk the ledge, let alone now sr50 and jumping it. Its amazing. A game from 1993 is still being played because it was made with love. Tell me I'm wrong.

There used to be the pandora's glitch though

They only have 5 minutes, they dont have time for a 3rd person.
The average run taking an hour makes me feel so much better at the game. It usually takes me 30-40 minutes and that's when I'm playing it slow

Time Eater is by far the easiest act three boss in my opinion. Awakened One and Donu and Deca are far tougher in my opinion.
