  • Stranded from Jimmy Neutron is proof of why Jimmy and Cindy could've been more and worked, even if it ultimately wasn't the goal of the show. For such a great episode, it could've been the foundation of a groundbreaking relationship at the time, or just a fun 22 minutes of your time.

When it comes to Jimmy Neutron, this is one of my favorite episodes. It shows that without this battle of egos, Jimmy and Cindy could have been a cute couple. And I'm so glad that it never fell into the "status quo" pit. After this episode, despite them still arguing, you can tell Jimmy and Cindy still have feelings for one another deep down.

I've always held onto my theory that the moment they both really started to have feelings for each other was in Trading Faces (the brain swap episode). When Jimmy and Cindy start to lose their original minds as they blend into their new host bodies Carl Sheen and Libby have to put all of their individual traits back into the right body. However, there is one final trait that just gets straight up deleted: "extreme dislike of girls who dislike boys who dislike girls who dislike show-offy boys who dislike pedantic..." Its always been my interpretation that, since they were already beginning to kind of fuse anyway, this trait was representative of their combined animosities towards eachother, and without it they were both allowed to further develop their friendship/relationship. They still have the key traits that allowed them both to argue in the first place, but they no longer dislike eachother because of those arguments.

I think Jimmy did not like Cindy in the slightest,, and why would he when she was such a bully to him? So I agree with the deleted trait was actually Jimmy's, because Cindy always loved him (just didnt know what that emotion was and tried to suppress it with meanness and then didnt know how to express it at all when they did become quasi-frienemies/allies. Notice how she never truly had another boy that occupied her mind the way Jimmy did while Jimmy had multiple crushes)

It struck me that the reason why Jimmy and Cindy like each other to begin with is in the episode where Jimmy and Cindy switch bodies and the others are trying to put their memories back. There’s a memory that goes like “extreme dislike of girls who dislike boys…” and it goes over and over and Sheen gets frustrated and just tells Carl to delete it. The last scene after they get their bodies back is Cindy saying she saw a vision of them kissing.
So they’re together because Sheen deleted one complicated memory.

in the prequel film to the series, you can see that when Cindy doesn't have to maintain her status as a Jimmy-hater, she has warm feelings for him and cheers him up, telling him that he really is better than her. All their alleged hatred is really that Cindy was the smartest until Jimmy came into class and dominated, so she tried to humiliate him to raise her self-esteem, but still admired him, and Jimmy was just trying to resist her attacks and therefore convinced himself that he did not like such girls. I think the Shin moment and the love drink episode didn't make him think otherwise, but only loosened the barrier between them.

Actually, i don't think deleting that particular memory makes any difference. The clue that shows they are really into each other is the following scene, in which Cindy mentions them pictured on an beach, walking holding hands and kissing, and jimmy says he also depicted that memory. That being said, means both of them had that same idea/memory, because neither of them where able to see each other's memories. So they, by luck, happened to have a similar image of them, showing to us spectators they've always been crazy about each other

I like the Jimmy and Cindy implied relationship, but I strongly disagree about the backseat conversation about their love/hate relationship by their friends. It legit feels like the writers of the show spelling out the reason the both of them act this way because they feel like here too dumb to see it, even though it was easy to see even without this conversation, even when I was a child. It gives off the same vibes that the psychiatrist monologuing to Rick Sanchez in the pickle Rick episode of Rick & Morty did, but not as bad since at least here it wasn't being done by a completely new character, and at least it was a kid show. Just my opinion though.

Oh man, it's been years since I have watched this show, but I remember how the show hinted at feelings between Cindy and Jimmy when I was growing up and the will they won't they. Some were more obvious than others, but there are two episodes that still stick in my head. One is where Jimmy meets his future self and finds out that he is married to Cindy (though he is miserable in that future) though it kinda implies that he was still attracted to her regardless, at least enough to get married. And the other is the episode is where the gang goes into space and gets superpowers like the fantastic 4, And Jimmy's Power is that of the hulk and he goes on a rampage and the only one that was able to calm him down was Cindy when she was about to say, "I lovvv....." but couldn't finish the phrase before passing out.

I think what makes the end of the episode so interesting is the implications of it all. Perhaps off screen, Jimmy explained that they couldn't be with Cindy on the island forever. He seemed very considerate of how she felt, but could've made it clear that the island wasn't going anywhere. Should the two ever find time together, they can always go back and make the most of the little time they got. That feels like the best case scenario for the end of this episode. It's just sad that this wasn't foreshadowed much in later episodes.

Man I absolutely adored this show and their love/hate relationship because I love a good “slow-burn” love story, ones that happen to have denial, flustering, accidental confessions, longing, sadness etc instead of immediately “Oh turns out I actually love you” but instead it happens much later on when the characters become closer and closer as friends before becoming something more.
It always made me squeal when I saw these too accidently confessing their feelings for one another.

This is one of the best episodes of the last season for sure. I honestly think that had the show continued, the relationship with Jimmy and Cindy would have been a major theme considering there were plenty of other episodes in the last season that touched on it such as The N-Men, Vanishing Act, King of Mars, and even a little gag in Lady Sings the News, leaving the writers no choice but to go all in on it (at least for a while). (ik there was april but she was only used in one episode so i don’t count her) ik arnold had one who didn’t, but arnold in general had loads and came off a bit as a simp who under minded helga, unlike jimmy and cindy where jimmy in some episodes didn’t go for cindy not bc of other girls, but mainly due to him focusing on other efforts and all!

I actually like the way they handled Jimmy and Cindy in the movie as opposed to the show. They were more natural in the original movie, and rather than any relationship being overly pushed at or ramped up, Cindy just showed a side of herself that was there to help and console Jimmy when he needed it. Which is probably the most appropriate gesture for young kids in the first place. I kind of don't always agree with the idea of pushing "relationships" in children's shows and cartoons, because the reality is that children aren't ready for real life relationships. Even if it is just puppy love, as you would call it. The way characters are written in shows is usually dynamic to whatever the plot or lesson is trying to be conveyed in the episodes. But naturally, children are children, not plot puppets. So when child characters are written more like what they are, it's more intrinsic to rewatch.

I always enjoyed the flirty relationships characters have in these kinds of shows as long as they aren't adults. Not in the sense of weird ships, but because it's usually written in a way that they'll never get together permanently.
When it's done for more adult characters, it's usually stressful to watch because you don't know if the show can properly tie the knot at the end of the season. An example is phinies and Ferb, which had time jump episodes and romantic development for the older cast to allow for a romantic conclusion (even if one of them was made by a fan itself kek)

I feel like this stands out from a lot of relationships (or shippings), including western movies and especially the ones from anime, because unlike most relationships, the reason behind Jimmy and Cindy being rivals was a way to hide their true feelings and this episode not only revealed the hate was all a masquerade, but I feel like it also called out the problem with societal norms. However, a fair point to think of is how they somehow hinted this prior, such as in the episode "Safety First," where Cindy actually cared about Jimmy. But season three was developing the main cast, especially Jimmy and Cindy, which made the thing more evident. A lot of relationships kinda have the same reason and story behind them.
The fourth (and truly final) season would have brought mature themes to the show, had more clever writing, and made the show end properly.

Jimmy and Cindy could live on that island forever, they were able to build a settlement in less then a day and had no problems with predators for the most part, Jimmy still had his watch so he could use the laser to defend them, hell he could probably create primitive weapons like bows and coconut launchers for him and Cindy to use.
