Among the various style/minimalism YTers I watch, I appreciate that you are one of the few to not encourage maniacal discarding which usually just sets the stage for re-shopping and refilling. As you often say: the most sustainable items are the ones you already own. Good to give them as much of a chance as possible and try to make them be what one thought they would be when purchased. That mindset helps to find the pleasure in the styling/wearing/living rather than constantly moving on to a new thing.
I think you made a good point here: although many stylists would advise to give away anything that you don't resonate with, I think that taking a break and putting the items away for a while makes more sense. I've started building my sustainable wardrobe over 4 years ago. Everything I purchase is very carefully selected and is quite frankly an investment (both in time - all the research/planning I put into it - and in money). Unfortunately, sometimes, even if you REALLY LOVE and take care of your pieces, it can happen that you feel a bit less enthusiastic about them, in which case I think it's a good idea to just put the items away from a bit. Chances are that you will create a gap in your wardrobe if you just discard items permanently. Rotation of clothes is a great strategy if you are a person that like "new" thing. For example, I have a few summer dresses that I only bring back every other year, so I never get tired of them. Same goes for sweaters/wool jumpers. Rotation rotation rotation 😂
Yes it has happened to me so many times that I say I don’t want this! I donate it and then one day im wondering where I left that piece of clothing because I kind of want to wear it now, and then I remember haha
@@nitzeart YEP... And you end up buying something similar... Which is super counterproductive. 😂🤷🏻♀️ Now that everything that I own has been carefully selected and purchased with purpose, I just can't donate or sell my stuff, unless it's a "mistake item", which does not happen very often.
it's an interesting and different perspective, isn't it? i personally would only store items i was undecided on, not something I did not like, otherwise it would distract me even if they are stored
I always do second hand first. I was able to add the following to my fall wardrobe recently: 1 grey cashmere sweater $1 1 camel colored vintage leather jacket $2.50 1 black trench coat with liner $19 Each of these took the place of an item that was wore out and no longer wearable. These were the only pieces I needed to complete my fall wardrobe. My wardrobe colors are black, camel, navy, grey & cream with pops of color (mustard yellow, olive green, burgundy, cobalt blue). I love vintage and quality brands so I thrift with a list of what I actually need and take the time to get just the right items to bring home!
@@dawncuellar1094 we have a value village as our only thrift store in the area. It is a 2 hour drive round trip from my house. I got the trench coat there. The other 2 pieces I got at a yard sale I stumbled upon last month.
I came across your video and I must say that I really love your style. Thank God that I found you on UA-cam. You look fabulous with your outfit.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am on vacation and it's a rainy day so I started online browsing out of boredom. Your video couldn't have came at a better time 😊 I would love to see you describe the items in your capsule in detail, I know you have done it before but I really enjoy that type of content and you do it so well. Wishing you all the best ❤
I’m making my morning cocoa right now. The days are still hot here in California, mid-80s F and up, but mornings are getting cool. I also love autumn, it means those blistering days will soon be over, and I can wear layers, sweaters, blazers and boots again.
As a mom of four, soon to be 5, what you said is right on. I have multiple crates I store my clothes in from different phases of my body changes. I think women need to accept the glorious change and embrace each stage. My body is not the same as pre-baby. It is better; it served me in my journey of life creation and deserves celebration. Now opening the first 3 mo pod, 6 mo pod and 9- 3 mo post partum is a fun exercise full of memories and joy. I have also learned that there’s a ton of things marketed to women that are useless. Maternity shopping second hand has been such a game changer for cost and sustainability, and I have been able to pass on so much to other moms too.
We are in Spring here in Australia and I am not looking forward to our very hot summer. Autumn is also my favourite season for styling clothes. I really like your black dress pants and all of your knit wear is beautiful! You look great in all of your outfits! 😍
Europe is keeping fingers crossed for Australia and it's next summer to be less hot this time around than previous one. But if it fails to be such, please remember to help koala bears from all of us. And if Europe can do anything to support Australia on such occasions, please guys, create globally available options for us such mehtods of fundarising or even proviidng practical help, such as channels informing us You need European firefighters or such to come to help, since yes, we hate the idea of sitting doing nothing when we can witness summer weather in Australia to turn deadly hot.
Excited to hear how your wardrobe is changing / not changing in response to having a baby. Yes, maybe I can keep my white trousers too if I change out of them as soon as I come home... Problem is, the last year and a half, we were so rarely away from the kids, I've almost forgotten my dirt-sensitive items.
Thanks for this lovely video. I’m in my early 49’s now and feel my style has matured to a much more classic look. Even though I live in the Western US, think cowboy boots and hats, I still love a beautiful wool coat, trousers, understated jewelry and clogs. Hugs❤️
Same, ever since I became a mom I actually did a whole new capsule wardrobe to just be at home. I went thrifting and purchased 7 t-shirts and 4 bottoms, plus comfy clothes I had at home. I accepted the fact that I have to wear practical clothing around the house. I love my "mom" capsule wardrobe. But I do have to remind myself that I cannot wear those pieces out, I feel like I would get too comfortable and start to look too messy. So I have my "normal" year round capsule plus some seasonal pieces that I wear out for errands or family/friend outings. Thank you for the inspiration like always!
Thanks to you Emma Hill and some others... I am really looking at my wardrobe and decluttering and trying to become a minimalist. And also my house I am decluttering house products and minimal things 😂
Nice video! I’ve 40 items in my wardrobe (including bags and shoes) for the seasons of the year. And I still want more Maybe 55 is the perfect number for me
I recently returned to a work office environment after a 3 years break, home mum. Now l have my professional all year capsule wardrobe of 33 clothes, which l only wear for work. I keep this capsule in the guest bedroom wardrobe. When l come home l change into my jeans etc. My regular all year wardrobe including a few nicer items for the occasional special event totals 40 items of clothing.
Fall is my favorite time of year, too! It’s too hot for fall fashion right now (highs in the 80’s this week) but hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be good to go with sweaters and layering pieces.
Your eyebrows are PRIME in this video! I’m fair too and mine are totally bleached from the sun this time of year. I can’t be the only one who’d love a tutorial/advice.
I always looking forward to your seasonal capsule, so much inspiration 🤩 I can highly recommand a Bullet Journal. I read the book from Ryder Carrol, he is a very inspiring person. The fact you can make your Bullet Journal so individually is just perfect for a lot of people 😊
I love your videos! Wish I had good fashion sense to come up with a workable capsule. I'm not sure why it's so difficult for me. I love jeans both blue and black. My best colors are black, gray, beige, a little white and for a pop of color, I love burgundy and forest green. I do wear other colors sometimes, but the ones mentioned are my favorite and what my wardrobe mostly consists of. I think what I need is practice creating various outfits with limited amounts of items. PS: Your home is so hygge!
Many people would join Skillshare if they would adjust pricing not only to wealthiest countires earining in US dollars or EURO since for many people around the globe such prices due to currency exchange rates is an overkill. Honestly, this is why people around the globe nowadays do not subscribe to or unsubscribe from many online services. Wouldn't harm providers of these services to adjust their pricing to local currencies in different countries plus to various locally available payment methods more secure than credit cards. Different countries have various yet different services of this kind.
This approach is great and I love it. I'm just afraid my wardrobe will become super boring in a year and I'll need to again go back to some new items as everything changes quickly in the clothing world. I certainly agree with sustainability and classic items. I just think we need to have some signatures and unique items in our clothes otherwise we will all look the same 😅
Signe you are looking beautiful! Also your little daughter has grown a lot, probably almost a year in October I think. Glad all is well! Thanks for your video,s.
I’m lucky my capsule wardrobe is easy. I am in jeans and T-shirt and hoodie type girl LOL and everything matches jeans. I have a few wild colors that I called wild cards when I’m in a mood for color but it’s mostly just ordinary T-shirt and jeans. Love all ur vids. Great advice and info as always 🥰🥰🥰
I would have loved to see all your items in your capsule, like Here are my 37 pieces: 5 jeans, x shirts etc. BUT what a high quality video, and your are always so relaxing to watch. I like your style and message a lot :) Thx for sharing!
I buy for life and save most items, if they are good-quality, work well for me and are comfortable. Like my now reportedly out-of-style leather gladiator sandals, I’ll just store them. When chunky boots came back in, I already had the perfect ones and just brought them back out. It’s hard enough to find comfortable, high-quality leather footwear, getting rid of it never made sense to me. The items I end up passing on generally have a comfort problem, or are cheap fast-fashion or Amazon items, which I am trying to stop buying. I’ve had some, but not perfect, success, I’m still working on it.
I don’t know how I previously missed this video. I really like your cardigan. I recently made a purchase from armed angels. I followed the recommendations for my size and it ended up being to large. I didn’t read the full details of their free returns. The free returns does not apply to the US. I reordered the item in the correct size for me. Decided to gift the other one to my daughter because it was going to cost me $102.00 to return item.
Oh thank you! I'm wearing: Ren CC cream, RMS Blush in Modest, REFY brow gel and then mascara+concealer are from a Danish brand called Nilens jord :-* / Signe xx
Hi from Sydney Australia. We've been in lockdown for 3 months and have another month to go. Everybody wears active gear at the moment. Looking forward to dressing up and going out for lunch with friends.
can you please do a video on how to get that musty smell out of second hand/thrifted clothing? Not everything can be thrown in the wash and dry cleaning is bad for the environment!
Hi, where do you get your fitted tees and tanks from please? I have a few tees that that are meant to be slightly scooped, but they just hang in the middle and don’t fit my body. I particularly like the white one you are wearing in the video under your cardigan.
I actually have my inexpensive tees taken in and often shortened because I am 5’3” and short-waisted. It just costs a few dollars and makes the tees look much more expensive and flattering.

White seems to be essential in all capsule wardrobes but washes me out, as does ivory. What would you suggest as an alternative?
- beige and camel tops also wash me out.
I loved the brown jumper from organic basics. How is the sizing? I usually wear XL in women's clothes, should I go normal size or size down?
Great quality!
