  • Hi Guys, I want to help you create a wardrobe that you absolutely love and that will stand the test of time. I think I've come quite far at this myself and it's the best feeling in the world! When shopping for clothes, you should ask yourself a few questions before you buy a new piece. To help with that, I've created this little guide for you to avoid mistakes whilst shopping. It helped me to build a closet where I always have something to wear, for every occasion. I hope you enjoy!

It’s amazing how I’m still learning things. I love the concept of not buying things that are similar looking to others. They serve no purpose when they look so similar.

I have been trying to shop smart lately and consider timeless pieces and avoid trends, but I reached a point where 1. I can’t declutter because I have good pieces and they’re not throw worthy. 2. I can’t buy much more because most of what I like is something similar to what I have. So now I’m back to getting stuck with my wardrobe.

    • @thepreppyminimalist
      @thepreppyminimalist  11 місяців тому +3

If you're stuck with your wardrobe you probably don't own pieces that you're in love with. I don't have things to declutter but also don't need much new stuff. So that's the place you want to be in because then you have a closet you love. Otherwise you would declutter or donate. Do you like your clothes or do you feel like you can't declutter them because the quality is still okay and it feels like a waste?

Great video! 👏❤️ I also dislike polyester for all the reasons you mentioned, but there are so many amazing + unique vintage tops in the secondhand market that are made of polyester. So I do exactly what you do- I wear them in the winter with a basic cotton shirt underneath! Since polyester retains body heat, wearing it in winter puts this to good use! 😊👍👍

I have a major problem in summer to find things I like to wear. I started looking for dresses which I found on thredUP ( online preowned clothing store) and I love them. They are so easy when it’s all one piece. I’ve always had a hard time with finding my personal style and struggled with over shopping. I like fall clothes the most and I feel most comfortable in that season. After watching one of your older videos I’ve decided that if I don’t love it right away, I’m not keeping it. I love your channel!! I especially appreciate your tips on how to focus on the foundational principles on which a great wardrobe is built. The more you know about yourself, the more you can say "no" to the distractions. Trends are FADs aka cloths For A Day. I used to get frustrated with shopping bc it seemed that there was nothing for me. I invested time and $$ to find out what season I belonged to, what lines/silhouettes flatter me, and the styles that appeal to me. As of now I have a great foundational wardrobe that suits my climate and lifestyle. I live in S.Florida so I really have to be mindful of the fabrics add to my closet. Great video and channel 😊

You made so many incredible points! I'd just like to add on that consider your own personal habits whilst shopping, for e.g. I have many dresses, quite a few midi and some mini but it dawned on me a while back that I can never be bothered to shave my legs and so will often just end up choosing trousers/jeans so now I try, albeit not always successfully, to refrain from buying a dress. Thank you!

Hello there! This is my first video of you. Very intelligent list. I especially liked that you have to be able to afford it. While raising kids I often shopped at Goodwill for my things or very on sale. Now that they are grown my clothes are both art and investment. It’s such a joy to buy a very nice piece and know that it will serve me well for ages. Some pieces are still thrifted because I choose sustainability and it leaves more budget for investing in harder pieces. Like cashmere sweaters and jeans. I live in them in the winter. The summer is silk or cotton tank tops. I live in the southern USA so we are humid and hot. Polyester is the worst.

Im a psychologist. I got myself to an internist and was diagnosed. Never had I been tested and half my thyroid gland has been destroyed by my high stress hormones over the years...and it caused my excess weight.
So now a size 6 or 8 I look great in clothes, have a petite hourglass figure, am at my ideal weight, so all the large sizes had to go. Now I love TOOMANY clothes I love that I try on after never being able to find anything I liked for decades.
I have been buying Ralph Lauren thrifted almost exclusively and have an incedible wardrobe for very little. But is getting cumbersome storage space wise and mangagement and organization wise....I too need to get veeeeery fussy.

I think “ sales” is what I get sucked into. I’ll see a nice and high quality dress that looks nice but it’s on sale so I tend to go with that one over the one I REALLY love. I usually end up not loving the the dress so I don’t really want to wear it. In the end I personally just need to buy the item I love and stay away from the ones I “ kind of like” and I’m only buying because I’m getting a deal. It’s not a deal if I do not wear it🤔.

I try to build a good wardrobe and i think i have done that - but still dont know what to wear day to day. I really love most of my clothes but dont know how to build outfits with it. I struggle less in autumn winter but in this warmer weather 15-25°C its so difficult for me. When i cant wear a knitted jumper i dont know what to do with myself 😂
I really struggle with my style words - i wear a lot of practical clothes, because i am working with children between 3 and 6 yrs old, i am going everywhere by bike and love being outside. I live at the coast in northern germany, so i have to deal with wind and rain on a weekly basis😅 and still drive bicycle😊
I thought it might be "outdoorsy Casual but still feminine and chic and a little edgy"?
So, i have a lot of Jeans and Knits. I love cozy and comfy clothing. But practical and durable. So i can work with the children, be on playgrounds, move,
Still, i really want to still look feminine and chic and like i have made an effort.
I have some dresses and skirts but really dont know how to build outfits to still look good and not like i am just ... I dont know.
I am Happy i found your Channel because we live in same climate and i have a similar bodyshape. Maybe i can learn Something 😊😊

I was born in the 50s and was the last child of 5 children I grew up with two pairs of shoes, one dressy and one tennis shoe and four dresses we had to wear dresses to school. I would’ve liked to had more clothes but we didn’t have the money. Also my mother would sew things.

As a kid we like to have and be the same as the other kids. It's very cool that your mother could sew though! I wish I could. My grandma was really good at it and my mom knows a little bit but it's a skill thats sadly fading away. Really have to learn it because I take my clothes to the tailor regularly!

Great video and great perspective! I have heard the rule "don't buy it if you own something similar" many times, but I never thought of it in the sense of "you will prefer one over the other anyway." Love it, I will definitely remember this! I'll also remember that if I feel "more self aware" in a piece, it's probably not authentic to my style!

I'm living in the Netherlands right now and the first time I walked by Sissy Boy my jaw dropped.
