    Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
    If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
    21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
    23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
    24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
    26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
    26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
    26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
    27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
    28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
    29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
    31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
    31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
    31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
    32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
    34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
    Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
    To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
    You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
    Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
    I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

    Hands down the best sales tip I’ve ever heard. The idea of ghost products and having a sales guy pretend they’re giving out information that benefits the customer more than the company is absolutely genius.

    • @THEcolebennett
      @THEcolebennett 2 роки тому +28

      It's not pretend. It should actually benefit the customer, otherwise it's just un-ethical and greedy. Not a good long term strategy/tactic if its not used ethically. That is why Alex talked about intent. You must have the customers best interest at heart or else it is just manipulation.

  • @frankhenry10x
    @frankhenry10x 2 роки тому +64

    Takeaway - Earn your customers trust to sell higher ticket items by showing that you have their best interests at heart by saving them money on lower ticket items. Aka Sacrificial lambs / Ghost products.
    Another Hormozi gem! Thanks Alex

      This exactly. I've been doing this for a very long time, and it's key to gaining status as someone that's a trusted advisor and the client identifies you as "on their side."

    The first part of the video made me think of Robert Cialdini's book (Influence or Pre-Suasion) about a waiter that had the highest tips consistently.
    He would first give the advice to NOT order one or two things on the menu to gain the trust of his customers. Then when he recommended stuff, they would be a lot more likely to say yes and ended up with bigger bills.

  • @elijahjohnyarra
    @elijahjohnyarra 2 роки тому +5

    I observed this tactic from our local wet market. Whenever the goods that I'd like to buy were out of stock the vendor would send me to their nearest competitor and I would trust them back. And whenever I come back the next week to buy goods again, I will always go to that vendor that best served me.
    Jordan Belfort taught this tactic too. Salespeople should always think about serving their customers and if it is meant to send your prospects to your best competitors, do it.

  • @anamosa1574

    I stumbled upon this by not receiving any commission for any product sold at Home Depot, thus, feeling a lack of incentive to sell a more expensive product when there’s a cost effective solution that accomplished a similar outcome for customers. “Thank you for being so honest”… & “the best customer service” countless times… I see them more frequently as a result. Will now apply to business.

    Loved the video Alex, it's been great seeing your fantastic rise over the last year and how your image, brand, has gained quality and consistency, the cross platform tik tok / UA-cam consistency is on point and the story you've embraced has been inspiring.
    Honestly well done, really inspiring!
    P.s. it wasn't lost on me how you gave away this ghost lamb, shared you're secret, played on our morality and brought us all around the table.
    Looking forward to the book, I can't afford it right now but there's probably a torrent out there somewhere, but that's not how I roll, what I *need* you to do is just send me a copy and we don't even have to use your card on file.

    I would do this working at Sephora. Customers would come in and I would tell them honestly some of these make products are overpriced and you can get the same/better product at ulta. I would put them on the benefits they would get from Sephora products. I also go the most beauty insiders at our location. It was because I would tell them the benefits of the insider and what they miss out on, or just apply it to their lifestyle.

    Fun fact: this is actually the narrative hook in the 1947 Christmas film "Miracle on 34th St."
    The NYC Macy's Store Santa, who claims to be the /Real/ Santa, starts directing children & parents to other stores when their Christmas wish isn't stocked by Macy's.
    Naturally this causes a bit of an uproar with the Executive Suites, however it turns out it's a massive Good-Will Publicity Campaign in disguise and sales go through the roof as a consequence.
