I don't know what it is about the tone or melody of this song that makes me a little bit emotional; it makes me smile but teary eyed at the same time. Maybe because I remember hearing it as a kid and at that time in my life things were simpler and I was more innocent. Loved ones were still around, hard times and struggles were still years away. As a kid I used to watch Taxi just before falling asleep. That song has been forever linked with a time in my life of no stress and innocence. This performance brought it all back. Thank you.
I grew op a block away from Bob. I was a lot younger, but I do recall his dad, Lamkin James proudly calling out to Bob in the next room to sing out a specific note, which Bobby did. Then Mr. James walked to the piano and played the note. Perfect match, perfect pitch, evertime. Mr James was an attorney. Bob wa a proud Marshall Owl. Marshall, Mo.

I remember as a kid watching the intro to the show and being moved by the music. I didn't even like the show, but I loved the theme music. That was before I even touched a musical instrument. Now after all these years I realize I must have been born with good taste in music 😉
I also just realized Bob James is one of my biggest influences. So many of my favorites from this, to the hip hop samples and Fourplay. Another similar influence is Mike Post. We were lucky to grow up in a culture that used real music even in nightly sit-coms. Back then it was just background music to me, I didn't realize it was a soundtrack of culture and life, defining a few generations. I am thankful. 🙏
I was born August 1, 1983. My mom was late in pregnancy with me during the final episodes of Taxi, which aired in the hot summer of 1983. This song goes absolutely right to the core of my brain in a way that no other song does, it's totally wild.
Omg!!!! Same August 83, I fall asleep to Taxi for the music. This just made my heart smile. Taxi just touches me so deeply always has. Yet it was over as o came here. So wild. Maybe even to the day. It’s so crazy glad I’m in excellent top shelf company. This man has to be someone from my past life. ❤
Reminds me of the days living abroad in London missing my Grandparents. They lived in Forest Hills, The show Taxi use to come on in England and I loved the opening scene with the music of the taxi go over the bridge and I would get so home sick. We took the Williamsburg bridge but it still reminded me of New York City going to my Grams and Pappy's. Thank you for that wonderful song which will always be with me forever. Cheers Bob James! TOUCHDOWN!

The TV theme tune is one of those wonderful things in life. So many great ones to choose from over the years: The Odd Couple, Hill Street Blues, Rockford, Cheers, Succession, The Golden Girls. Bob James’ Angela is simply one of greatest. What a joy to see this magnificent performance, it brings back so many happy memories of the 1970s.
I was in bands starting in the late 1970s and you wouldn't dream of going out to play without Fender Rhodes...even though they weighed about as much as a loaded casket.
One of my favorite moments of my childhood were taking road trips with my parents and one of the cassettes they would play constantly was “All Around The Town” which they got shortly after it came out in 1981. Now all these years later, I am playing it for my family whenever we go somewhere together. The circle of love continues on. Thank you, Bob!
Music is truly a time machine. I hear this song and suddenly I'm a little kid in bed trying to pretend I'm asleep while really listening to whatever my parents were watching on TV in the next room. And thinking 'I can't wait til I'm a grownup!'
Unequivocally sublime. A very large swath of people have a very personal connection to this beautiful piece because it was something that was shared in a time when our entertainment options were limited. That limitation connected us. It was a hugely shared experience. Decades later we hear the notes of that theme and we are right back in that place and time and it feels warm and good.
For many of us..the first song that got us familiar with Bob James. I remember the day I bought Touchdown ((1980) because this song was on it... Arriving home and putting the LP on my turntable..putting my headphone on..listening the entire album..I was addicted until today. Thanks Mr. James👍
I heard Heads first, I have been a fan since day one and really not a single month in the last 40+ years that has gone by that at least one of his songs rings in my head...keeps me centered!!!🥰💖💖💖
So many good memories, still great , classic! Bob James, the trio setting is killing it!! What a stellar line up from the original album 'Touch Down' .. thank you ❤
So many of us Gen X kids have the best memories of when our parents were still alive, snuggled up after bath time, sneaking in the beginning of Taxi before going to bed. The laughter, warmth, and feeling of home. Incredible theme with all the timeless and best memories of that era.
Growing up I never knew this song had an actual name "Angela" I always associated it as the "Taxi" theme song....at the :23 second mark I was transported to my 11 year old self😢😢😢good music never gets old❤
Same here, it is even cooler 38 years later to know Bob James is the one who wrote it and is one of the musicians involved in playing the keyboard in it!! 😍
I love Angela, since Taxi. She's matured gracefully. Great trio and great version.. in fact it's my favorite one. I come back to this page, to listen to it every couple of days.. 😍
There is no other song, theme song or otherwise, that has as much emotional impact on me as this song. Those few years of the Taxi theme playing only once a week when I was a teenager are burned into my soul. I honestly don't think there is any other theme song that was this good. It is so melancholy, both sorrowful and joyful at the same time. It is in my opinion one of those very few "perfect" songs.Takes me back in time to hear it again.
I watched taxi and loved the show. And I loved the theme music and had no idea who was playing it. When I found out, I always wanted to say this... thank you Mr James
This is my favorite version of the song. Loved watching "Taxi" growing up and this theme song is like a warm chocolate chip cookie with a glass of warm milk. So smooth. I also enjoyed the bass player's James Franco-esque facial expressions (Yo-Yo Ma would be proud if he saw this lol). Kidding aside, Bob James selected two great virtuosos; just awesome! Thank you for posting! ✌😎
I was a `70s child of sitcoms and Taxi is my favorite, have the DVD box set now. A major reason for that was because of this song, which introduced me to jazz. My first jazz album was Touchdown. I have all the wonderful jazz I've discovered over the last 45 years and the expansion of my musical horizon, both of which I owe to this song and Bob James.
Bob is a fantastic player for sure, do you notice how he just drops right into the background when someone else takes a solo. Great respect for other members in his band. When Bob comes back to play, they all support him. Result, awesome sound, love it.
It's 1:50am on Monday morning and suddenly I don't feel so bad about working throughout the night. Not every live performance can live up to the studio recording. This is just sublime. Away from nostalgia, purely as a piece of beautifully conceived music, this is absolutely soul-soothing!
The next thing we knew, Run DMC came out with Peter Piper which sampled Bob James' Take Me To The Mardis Gras and suddenly a whole different light was shone on Bob's music. I've since collected many of his LPs on vinyl.
And after creating light, God said "Let there be a Rhodes Piano", and heard it was good, and it was... good. That bass solo fkn slaps sooooo hard. Kills it. Mah dude on the drums NAILS the tone so hard.. Chef's kiss performance...
I think this is the best Jazz drummer I’ve heard ever. Soft smooth emotional defining 👌👌👌👌 His drums are tuned so well, where music just seem to flow effortlessly I’ve heard Bob James for over 40 years and he gets better with time To the band 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I don't know how many times I've heard this piece, maybe thousands, and this trio arrangement is the closest thing to the live version of the double album recorded in NYC called All Around the Town, from 1981. I continue and will continue humming this tune probably until the last of my breaths.
I remember watching Taxi with my Dad. I was 8 or 9 years old and sometimes, he would let me stay up late, to watch it with him. He’d always say, “don’t tell your mother”. (She worked nights as a waitress at the time).

Same here, it is even cooler 38 years later to know Bob James is the one who wrote it and is one of the musicians involved in playing the keyboard in it!! 😍

Pure 70's remember watching it as a teenager late at night. Best theme tunes for all shows were in the 70's.
@killianlpc • Theme song from S.W.A.T.❗
@killianlpc • Heck, the Streets Of San Francisco had a heckuva theme opening song. A Quinn Martin production.
I love Angela, since Taxi. She's matured gracefully. Great trio and great version.. in fact it's my favorite one.
I come back to this page, to listen to it every couple of days.. 😍
Got a good collection of Bob James music along with Fourplay's
This song never gets old.
Nice. As the Taxi theme song, it was never long enough.
Wholeheartedly agree 😊
Absolutely wonderful performance by the one-and-only Bob James and his very excellent band mates.
I watched taxi and loved the show. And I loved the theme music and had no idea who was playing it. When I found out, I always wanted to say this... thank you Mr James
The music, the opening scenes and closing scenes are etched upon my mind forever.
They just go hand in hand together.
Perfection beyond perfection
There just has to be a Bob James in this world .😊
😊😊😊😊😊indeed
God, I love real music like this. Thank You!
Best TV theme song of all time!
Where has music gone, love, laughs, smiles, peace ? This is truly what life is all about ..
You can see they were in a creative moment together!!!

That's all TWRP is about
no one cares what you think
This is my favorite version of the song. Loved watching "Taxi" growing up and this theme song is like a warm chocolate chip cookie with a glass of warm milk. So smooth. I also enjoyed the bass player's James Franco-esque facial expressions (Yo-Yo Ma would be proud if he saw this lol). Kidding aside, Bob James selected two great virtuosos; just awesome! Thank you for posting!
✌😎
I feel that in my bones!!!
@@J_S_R_123 Thanks! Happy Holidays!
Good night Mr. Walters!
Owwwwwwww!
I really think Mr. James reintroducing the Rhodes is awesome. His playing ,the band, and the arrangement are totally top notch
Listen to Rim Banna - Bahallellak, that's one of the most beautiful recording with Rhodes in it.
Totally. Love 💕 his Rhodes playing
This. It's that wonderful Rhodes tone, soooo good

They are still just marvelous, marvelous instruments. Every functional one is a gift to the universe.
It's 1:50am on Monday morning and suddenly I don't feel so bad about working throughout the night. Not every live performance can live up to the studio recording. This is just sublime. Away from nostalgia, purely as a piece of beautifully conceived music, this is absolutely soul-soothing!
Amazing Bob James. Been a fan since 1979
One of the reasons for me to live
The Great and Legendary Bobby James is arguably The Greatest and Very Best Jazz Musician/Recording Artist of All Time. No question about it man.
This is late night perfection
Brings back fond memories of watching Taxi Thursday night here in the UK back in the 80's. Great times. 👍👍
The next thing we knew, Run DMC came out with Peter Piper which sampled Bob James' Take Me To The Mardis Gras and suddenly a whole different light was shone on Bob's music. I've since collected many of his LPs on vinyl.
The most underated middle eight in music
What is a middle 8?
@@goldbrick2563 basically another name for the bridge, I believe.
And after creating light, God said "Let there be a Rhodes Piano", and heard it was good, and it was... good.
That bass solo fkn slaps sooooo hard. Kills it. Mah dude on the drums NAILS the tone so hard.. Chef's kiss performance...
taxi the show & this great theme song are like comfort food to my soul. nostalgia for a different time at it's finest
I think this is the best Jazz drummer I’ve heard ever.
Soft smooth emotional defining 👌👌👌👌
His drums are tuned so well, where music just seem to flow effortlessly
I’ve heard Bob James for over 40 years and he gets better with time
To the band
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Always makes you feel cozy
Wow, I’ve never heard one of my fave TV themes played by the composer who actually wrote it. Awesome! 🙌🏾 Thanks Bob and band 🤗 💛🧡💚
My tune and my name❤ I have always loved Bob James music 😊
One of the coolest themes of a TV series
Bob James is a legend..the band’s tight
To watch this performance is astounding
OOH THIS IS STILL SO GOOD!!!!!!
I don't know how many times I've heard this piece, maybe thousands, and this trio arrangement is the closest thing to the live version of the double album recorded in NYC called All Around the Town, from 1981. I continue and will continue humming this tune probably until the last of my breaths.
All Around the Town was/is a masterpiece!
Thanks for bringing it up, I’ll have to find it now.

Perfection!
I totally forgot about this gem. Glad to hear it.
