      Hey man, it depends what kind of baits you are painting. For light bass baits i would say to use something like KBS or aluminite UV clear coat. Because an epoxy would add to much weight to such light baits. If you are painting baits with some weight to them (anything over 1.5-2 OZ I'd say) I personally would use Allumilte amazing clear cast. Epoxy is going to last longer than the others, but adds more weight. so for light baits it can throw off the action of the bait. best epoxy I personally found. I have a video where i show how to epoxy baits if you needed any help with that. Hope this helps!

    I was looking for an exact video like this!
    Thanks for covering everything man I want to start painting reels
    But I was wondering if we want to do small designs on the reels , is there a different airbrush or can you tune it in a way that it sprays very thinly ? Not sure If I'm making sense here. Also you should make a video walking us through setting up this exact airbrush set up
    Also can you recommend a specific moisture trap? A link maybe a name ? I see a ton on Amazon and I'm kinda confhsed.. 91 psi? 150 psi?

      both. But in my opinion you can accomplish everything needed with the 0.5. i use it for base coats as well as fine detains. really you can accomplish both with both needles. more of a preference. Id say try them both out and see whats more comfortable for your style of painting.

      Thanks brother! I’d say if you can spend the money get an iwata hp-cs . I wouldn’t use anything else after all the brushes I’ve used . But I won’t say that there aren’t cheaper brushes that won’t do that job if you don’t wanna spend the money. They will do the job. But they will also make u frustrated and you’ll eventually spend the money on a good brush. Just my 2 cents bud. For what it’s worth .

    What your painting makes a huge impact on what brush you need. I pretty much never touch my HP-CS, which is my lowest level brush. At best I'll do a wash or a fade with it. I don't know anything about baits, but for what I do I need a whole other level of tools. Not knocking what you do, making stuff is awesome. Besides painting i also build guitars from scratch. I actually had no idea there was so large a market for painting lures.

    I've just taken up miniature painting and looking at air brushes just to do priming and maybe base coats , had to google what you meant by baits lol. I'm honestly so lost what to do now . I was going to get badger patriot 105 , a few videos have recommended them but then I read a comment saying that shipping cost for replacements are as much as the air brush itself and they are going to stop making spare parts (I live in the U.K)

      you'd Be good with the iwata HP-CS for priming and base coats. but a cheaper brush would also do just fine for that brotha. I'd Still go with a good grab like Iwata. But u dont need to most expensive. My little brother paints Miniatures and he uses the iwata eclipse HP-CS for every single step and loves it.

    I have an hp-cs and have issues with the gun clogging. When I thin pant I get a lot of over spray. My biggest issue is tip drying issues. I use createx but have had better results with golden and don’t thin it but it’s pricier. Any tips?

    • @DJCustomBaits
      @DJCustomBaits  2 роки тому

      if you are having issues with the gun clogging and over spray you are most likely not thinning the paint enough. go thinner, and keep thinning until it sprays nicely. Make sure your lower your air pressure as you thin the paint more. the thinner paint is, the easier it will be to blow out but there is a happy medium. Also if you are mixing paint in your air brush cup it can cause that. I always mix in small plastic dixie cups then pour into my brush. thicker paint would cause a faster tip dry as well. What I use to attempt to eliminate as much tip dry as possible is weimans stainless polish. www.amazon.com/Weiman-Stainless-Cleaner-Polish-Trigger/dp/B007BOEI88 before painting I wipe my needle with it. then I keep a paper towel coated in it. every couple minutes I spin off my needle guard and wipe the tip with it . I keep my air pressure around 20-23 while spraying detailed stuff. and bump it up a little more , closer to 30 for base boats and things that don't require precision. my advise would be set your pressure around 25 , and then dilute paint until it sprays nicely for you. from there its all trigger control. Also if you are not using 4012 reducer you should try it. I wont use any other reducer. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CIEA808/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hope this helps brotha!

    • @NOturtle
      @NOturtle 2 роки тому

      @@DJCustomBaits I use 4012. So I thinned my paint out more last night even pearls and had better success with createx. I actually reduced my psi to about 15 on a .5 needle and it sprayed fine. If using a .35 maybe bump up the psi. I wasn’t thinning enough. Then I screwed up mixing 4012 with Golden. It caused the paint to get chunky. I never had issues with Golden before just spraying from the bottle. Thanks for the tip on the weimans polish. I’ll definitely try it out.

      @@NOturtle ive had that same problem with gold and also White. Its bad batches of the paint. idk if its when it gets cold and warm again but ive had it happen. and pearls are a paint brotha, if you figure out how to get pearls to spray cleanly without spatter let me know haha. Thats why ive always used pearls for everything that doesnt require detail. or if i am using them for detail ill do like a 70/30 mixture of paints. like 70% non pearl, mixed with 30% pearl paint in order to give it the shimmer. for some reason pearl paint is like trying to use single stage auto paint. its spattery as hell

    • @NOturtle
      @NOturtle 2 роки тому

      @@DJCustomBaits so I had no issues using pearl. I did add more 4012 similar to 70/30. I tested it on paper starting with the lowest PSI possible to prevent over blowing. Then just bumped it up till it sprayed better. My trick was to do light coats and hit with an heat gun till I got the right glimmer and thickness. It’s a little more tedious but the results are nice especially when you don’t overspray.

    • @DJCustomBaits
      @DJCustomBaits  2 роки тому

      @@NOturtle thats your best bet brother. nothing worse then getting 3/4 done with a paint job and it getting ruined by a blow out or spatter. ive always found the lowest air pressure i can spray at tends to be the safest and easiest to accurately paint with.

      hell yea man. honestly even using my 25 gallon compressor I get just as much moisture coming through my lines as i did with the small one. The singly only thing I have found i like better about using the large compressor is for doing base coats , where you turn your pressure up a bit and are not worried about accuracy and what not. Looking back Id probably rather just invest in another 2 of the zeny pro compressors and run 3 of them at 1 time rather than spend the $500 on the large noisy ass compressor.
