I started airbrushing lures about 25 years ago. This is all good advice. Having said that, despite my experience, I am constantly experiencing problems. Splatter, clogs etc. I think the most important thing is getting the paint to the proper viscosity as you mentioned. I have not been able to do this consistently and find it to be the most difficult skill to acquire.

When I watched the painter at an old job, he would watch how the paint dripped off the stir stick after measuring out the ratio. That might not help considering this situation would require a tooth pick 😏

Sir please don't sell yourself short. You're an engineer, true. But you're certainly an artist too. A sculptor, painter, and inventor. What you do is definitely art.

Seriously wishing you had made this video like 3 years ago.
I have watched probably on the low end 75 videos on getting started airbrushing. None of them is even close to the tutorial that you have created here in this video. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

My wife gave me an airbrush starter kit for Christmas. It is extremely satisfying yet frustrating getting the hang of it. Watching your videos along with Marling Baits, Solarfall Baits and Cincy Fish Dudes primarily has inspired my bait making and painting interest. Thanks.

Always a pleasure to watch your videos, very simple explanation for newbies.
I've had experiences that I thought were a bit risky, starting with colors that I hardly use the specific ones for airbrush anymore, now I mainly use colors for pictorial art or for casting painting techniques. The only attention, I have experimented with various brands, is to make an appropriate dilution that even with the same brand, each color has different dilution needs from another. Sure it may seem strange but they have a more covering power than specific airbrush colors. Another trick I use is to dilute not with water but with isopropyl alcohol, it increases the drying speed of the color, and a little reducer that prevents the color from drying inside the airbrush.
Obviously these colors always contain practically invisible waste and therefore after an initial dilution, it did not define, I filter the color with the filters that are used to filter the resin of 3D printers, then I carry on diluting.
For cleaning the airbrush I use 90% distilled water, then I can add, in the worst case, a drop of acetone which I bubble into the airbrush tank, otherwise more often I use isopropyl alcohol, then rinse with distilled water which I spray with very hard pressure, I have a small bottle with a sprayer that also gives me a very tight spray.
Unfortunately, where I live, the water that comes out of the tap, even if it is certainly drinkable, is particularly rich in mineral salts and therefore washing the airbrush with tap water is very risky because it could damage the airbrush.
Cleaning the needle I do it when I see that the needle cannot be cleaned while cleaning the airbrush I see that the needle needs cleaning. Now I make you cringe; I usually remove the needle and clean it with a paper towel, but... but every now and then I mount the needle on my screwdriver drill and with an abrasive paper wet with water, I turn the needle inside the abrasive paper with a good speed paying particular attention to the tip of the needle. I can also use the same product that is used to clean silver ornaments, brass, etc. In Italy it is called "Sidol", with this product I do a good cleaning by hand. After cleaning the needle I pour a very light film of oil for sewing machines, since I use to lubricate the needle with a single drop of oil, the precision of the painting has improved significantly.
Then I had many other experiences, but it's another chapter of my book / I'm not writing a book, it's just a figure of speech).
    Hello

I've had a Badger airbrush since the 1980's and a Master airbrush since the 2010's. Despite trying to clean them regularly, I had a lot of trouble with little to no paint spraying and it being very erratic most of the time when they did. I recently purchased an ultrasonic cleaner (after watching one of your videos) and used it on the Master brush the other day. Now it sprays like new. Also, I wasn't thinning the paint nearly enough and have learned that there's a fine line between to thick, which clogs the brush, and too thin, which easily gets blown into spider web paint patterns. Thanks for all the great tips!

Great information, I’ve been painting Fishing Lures for 3 years, I started with Paasche Talon Airbrush’s with the 9cc cup, I still use them and love them.
Several months ago I bought a PointZero 0.2mm nozzle and a 2cc cup, and MAC valve, I have no use for the MAC valve, but this PointZero airbrush I’ve grown to love, for a airbrush under $25 this thing rocks!
Everybody will develop there airbrushing World around them, based on what they know, me being in Industrial Maintenance all my life my airbrushing world will reflect this, I also do things differently because of my Stroke years ago, my right arm is basically useless so I’ve adapted most everything around that.
Painting Lures can be done on the cheap, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to do it.
The main things to know are what’s paints to use with your airbrush nozzle size, how to thin paints correctly, and the correct air pressure with nozzle size, paint used, basically 20-30 PSI for most applications. Experiment on paper, lots, and lots of experimenting!
Note: most times the airbrush is not the problem, if you have issues, most times the paint thickness is!
LEARN HOW TO CLEAR THICK PAINT FROM YOUR AIRBRUSH, and properly clean a airbrush!
Using cheap craft paints can and will cause you very bad issues, you will fight plugged nozzles and throw things!
Airbrush friendly paints are a necessity, going cheap can cost you more so much time in fighting then painting!

Iv bought a portable battery powered one for 45 euros on amazon just to do some facelift on my lures and im impressed with the result.
Iv never painted or used any airbrush before so i have no clue on the quality vs the top tier handmade lures, but mines are coming out stunning. Better than factory lures for sure that peel off so easily after some rock hits(i rock fish). The epoxy uv i bought from your store gives them great resistance.
For the price might be even a cool video ideia

I didn't have a spray booth or a vented area in my shop. I put a central heat & air filter on the suction side of a window fan. Using the lowest speed I spray in front of it and it seems to catch all the overspray. It catches more paint than I do fish! lol

You mention not using a single stage suction airbrush. I learned to airbrush with a Paasche single stage brush and am comfortable using it. I haven't jumped into lure painting yet but want to, and I'm thinking that the brush that I have will work for the time being. What are your thoughts for using this brush to start painting lures, then changing over to a two stage. thx
