Broadlink RM Mini 3 Blackbean Review And Tutorial
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лип 2017
- This is a review of the broadlink blackbean. This device is a cheap alternative to the Harmony Hub and is under £20. It can fire Infared signals to control your TV, Set top box, AV reciever and pretty much any other device that has a remote. In this tutorial I'll show you how to control it using your mobile, and also how to control it with Alexa.
I was sent this device in exchange for this video, all opinions are my own.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
This guy is the real deal. Super nice, and very helpful. Please donate whatever you can to him so we can continue to learn from his videos. Thanks again Paul, hope you are well!
Excellent tutorial as always Paul.
Been meaning to get the bean, think I will now as I have a use for it.
Hi Paul,
am a new subscriber , your vids are excellent, extremely discriptive and easy to follow, am starting to rely very heavily on your vids am setting up home theatre through Alexa, I ordered 2 mini black beans today £9.99 each on eBay, serious deal, have rm pro 3 so started today with the configuration, jez there's alot of work to do. Keep up the excellent work, really appreciate them vids ,
Eoghan Corristine thanks mate! :)
First of all congrats Paul, love your vids , for anyone not knowing how to use your sky q boxs + minis with broadlink , just press and hold 4 and 6 togeather for a couple seconds on your sky remote, changes remote to IR , sorry if u have already mentioned this . i was well cuffed when i discovered this today , autiomations have become more advanced now ie ...its dinner time and you what to continue watching in dinning room , ask who should not be named and say dinner time , and alexa l flashs kids lights, turns off living room tv, light ect, kichen tv. ,turns on dinning room tv, sky box , light, and backlight and tells everyone dinner ready. and vise vesa . hope this helps someone
so is this an either/or solution between the mini 3 and rm pro 2?
I brought one o these a month ago. had some issues setting up initially, had to reset my router, but since then its been great.
Just posting this here because it was Paul that convinced me to buy this in 2020. Of course the only reason I bought it was to control a pair of mini-split heat/AC units and learned the hard way that BroadLink doesn't support Fahrenheit. Despite the fact that I want to use this to heat my room at 72 degrees, the RM Mini3 keeps telling my units to turn on at 23 degrees which makes them automatically switch to AC and try to cool my room to 23 degrees F. BroadLink's support site says they don't support Fahrenheit, even though there's an option for preferred temperature units in the app settings, and all my attempts to get this to send any Fahrenheit commands to my mini-splits have failed.
Hi Paul. I set my mini up with ihc app which doesn't seem to work with tasker plugin. Do I need to switch to the econtrol app now to get the plugin to work?
Hey Paul,
First of all thank you for the great videos.
I just bought a Broadlink RM mini 3, an Amazon Echo and no android devices. Is there any solution to help me teach Alexa the right voice commands?
Thank you!
When creating a User-defined blank remote, is it possible to rearrange the icons and place them on different parts of the remote, as opposed to just a list starting at the top?
Hello. I would like to have all my remotes on my iPhone. My tv remote is broken, would I be able to use the RM 3 to operate my tv without having the original tv remote?
What devices this won't work with. Considering RM pro vs mini 3 for it lower price and same capabilitie. What devices use RF anyway. I have mostly IR remotes, Fire TV and Xbox one s.
hi Paul just followed your video on setup the dot
when i go to smart home then to devices it says smart home skill not enabled when i tap smart home skills it goes to the smart home skills section as im using basic rf plugs that are not listed is there any way around this problem
i know this is in a different post but this seems to have newer posts
hope you can help
cheers
Any way to get this acting as an input to home assistant please? So a spare key on my TV remote can ultimately dim my RF lights. Thanks
Any tips or vids on adding sky box to to the bean or is it same as regular remote, think you have a vid done on some set top box controlled by Alexa yeah ?
Do you need the Broadlink Pro to operate the Blackbean?
Paul I know this video is really old but I've been watching tones of your videos learning all sorts of neat stuff, thank you so much. I would like to teach you something if you haven't figured it out yet. For that box you had you ruin to open you can just open it from the bottom instead. Just pull the tab out and it will open right up, and close again without ruining the glue. This works for any box glued at the top like that but not glued at the bottom, including some Nintendo products, like their controllers!
Hi Paul, once i have completed all the configuration, can i use the command on my smartphone without wifi?
New to auto assistant automation stuff, could this device link with the google voice command from my android phone?
Possibly the best unboxing video on the internet!
Haha, thanks man!
Hi Paul Hibbert, Can u help me, i have RM4C Mini and i want to add Broadlink TC2 smart switch, how can i do that? Thanks
Great videos! Thanks. One question. Will the RM PRO work with Fire TV?
I got an echo studio for my bedroom and I wanna get my first broad link device I was planning on an rm 4 mini but I wasint sure if it would work with out an rm pro
I bought 2019 RM4C Mini Broadlink Bestcon Intelligent Remote Controller but whenever I try to connect to phone I get cannot see SSID? and have no idea what to do next? Any help appreciated! I have sort of connected now but had to put my Iphone into a Hotspot and then use wifes Andriod to connect but I can only use now when Iphone in hotspot and cannot seem to change the WIFI at all?
What does the layout for the set top box remote look like?
Broadlink RM mini 3 works fine with the new Boradlink Alexa skill as well.
Do you have any thoughts as to how to get this correctly working with Sky Q? I have mine set up to switch on my amp (then select the correct input), my tv and my Sky Q box but it’s hit and miss if the code gets to the Sky Q and works.
I also have the reverse ie switch everything off and it also does the same eg sky doesn’t always switch off.
Any thoughts?
hi back again ok how do you add more commands in the rm plugin ..rather than just on off
Which skill should I use in alexa to control the RM mini 3?
Paul...cool video...just a question. Why not use IHC app for using Alexa? Is RM Plugin much better?
Awesome I love your videos
Can you please help me. For some reason it will not let me add a second rm mini on my network does anyone know why or how I can get a round it
im trying to delete some old codes for devices that i dont use from the rm plugin.anyone know how to delete?
Paul this video has been very helpful, I give you fair warning prepare To travel
Great Tutorial, LOVE the Knight Rider reference at 2:27 :) Not even sure if you are aware you did it!
Hi! Love your stuff man! So I am learning about making my home smart. So I want to be correct all I need is a broad link pro (living room) and put a black bean in the bedrooms to be able to control the tv and other stuff? Or do I need a broad link pro and bean in every room?
Thanks dude. You are correct. Just one rm Pro needed and blackbean in all other rooms 😊
seems you are well informed when it comes to the products you review, so maybe you can help. I just bought the rm4 mini. I have all my devices inside IKEA cabinet that is close with at tinted glass. If I have the cabinet open, all the devices work perfectly. If I have a cabinet closed. The rm4 mini receives the signal but the devices don’t respond . Any advice in that?
Hey Paul Hibbert, hope you doing well! have you tried the Xiaomi Smart IR remote? seems pretty inexpensive... Im stuck with a Bradlink RM mini but cannot serve me well, I just need IR but cant stand to set all as bulbs or TVs...keep the nice job. BRs.
Nice video.. By the way, the broadlink and the devices should be in the same room? And if so, the broadlink should be turned directly towards the devices or it has a 360 grades range?
Hi
Just got one of the mini's. However I'm unable to connect it to my wifi. I've done all of your suggestions. When I pair it looks like it has paired and goes to device list but there aren't any devices in there. Any ideas as to why this is?
Many thanks
James
Hey dude, no idea on this one.Sounds like a software issue. Might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the app and starting over.
-P
Hi did you solve it. Im experiencing same problem
I've got Netflix and Amazon on my TV remote can I add them on the broadlink app remote and use Alexa to control them ?
You're going to like this ;) ua-cam.com/video/csIXsVPCRvY/v-deo.html
Legend!! thanks for sending me to this link seems to be exactly what I need for the TVs as I use the MiHome stuff for lights and sockets, does it have to be set up using android as I’m iPhone 4 life lol
Evening Paul, grabbed another bargin on eBay this time, generally $180 for this but won an aution on $45\€33 ,it's called Triby, fridge speaker / message board etc. Has Alexa built in, check it out, looks a bit of fun.
Can I use with soundbar and my hifi and virgin box
This is a longshot given the age of this post but its the only vid i can find specifcally related to the Blackbean that Paul has done. To date i have had no issues but i have recently had a cooker hood (Faber) with IR remote installed and wanted to add this to the BB. My first requirement was the light in the hood. The remote has a single button for light on/off and works fine via the Broadlink app. First part good and cooking with gas, i thought. What i cant do is get the damn thing to turn off even though it is the same button! I have tried custom and lamp without success. I then tried the fan on and off with the same result, turns on ok but not off. Anyone have any ideas why? I cant find anything on the net related to this so any heklp greatfully received
I have a Celing fan with an ir remote so is this all I need to be able to control that fan with Alexa and my phone? I don't need the pro right?
Yes, as long as the remote is on the broadlink system. You can add a user defined remote to the system, but it won't work with Alexa. A work around is to select a remote on their database, and the relearn the buttons with your remote.
Hey Paul, Is there any way you can tap in the IR code directly? Or more specifically how do you distinguish between ON OFF when its only one button. I ask because if you set up a combination command to turn TV on and set some lights and then your intellectually superior partner uses that command while the TV is on, I would turn the TV off, er... wouldn't it?
Everything set up both app remote works but alexa skill not enabled sign in failed any body help
You are the best....du bist der bester auf german!!!
Hey Paul, I'm really new to the home automation game. Is Broadlink RM Mini 3 Blackbean still relevant today ? Or do have another recomendation? Also, will this control my flirc that is plugged in my Nvidia Shield ?
Sorry for the delay. Thew blackbean is still relevant and yes it will control the flirc, that's how I'm setup!
Thanks for responding @@paulhibbert !
You deserve more subscribers
Eloygameno3 *blushes 🤣
Does anyone know how to use scenes from IHC or the Broad-link app with Alexa? I've created a few scenes but Alexa can't discover them.
Paul, question. you say in the video that you use tasker as a bridge to link to Alexa, what are the pros and cons of using the free version of tasker and the paid version?
Hello mate, I presume you mean the RM plugin... the answer is simple, don't use the free version ;) I've heard nothing but trouble lies down that road, weird bugs and upgrades to subscription services instead of the normal one off payment. Definitely just pay for the RM plugin, it's totally worth it.
Many thanks for that ordering it all now, be back at you any issues, keep the vids coming bro, I'm right behind you
My black bean continues disconnect/offline once every few days. I have had a good stint of about 3 months without disconnection but recently it will go offline randomly. (blue-light blinks quickly) I have tried to unplugged the bean, repluged, pressed the reset button for about 4 seconds, re-add the device = it works but doesn't last long, sometimes I'll come home from work and find the blue light blinking fast again.
Anyone know how to fix this and or why this is occuring?
Thank you all...!!!
I tried this with an RM-Mini but as soon as i power the mini up it wipes out the WiFi ! The laptop goes into a connect-reconnect loop, the DHCP info(connected devices) in the router is blanked out and the only way out is to kill the mini and reboot the router, all is well again then. Using the app you can see it gets an IP so i tried reserving that with the mini off but when plugged in down goes the WiFi. No idea if its just a duff mini but its going in the bin ! The Harmony Hub may cost 4x as much but it works and works well with home assistant too.
can i use this to turn my pc on and off? if yes how?
@Paul hibbert i bought this IR Blaster after watching your review. Thank you enjoying it. I have been facing one issue of device on/off having same button therefore alexa cannot detect on off state of my device it would be nice if you can make video on different methods to overcome this.
Hey dude, glad you're enjoying it. Alexa will never know the state sadly because IR devices are dumb. There's no easy fix for this, in fact the only fix is insanely complicated! It would involve having an Android device or raspberry Pi permanently on that would be responsible for telling the RM pro to switch the light on and off when Alexa tells it to and it would remember whether it last turned it on or off. Broadlink are in the process of creating their own all in one remote though so I wonder if they will have taken steps to resolve this! Watch this space!
@@paulhibbert thanks mate..😊
@PAUL HIBBERT i always wondered about these units... but can these be used with the AMAZON ECHO? these can only be used with your cellphone application correct? the reason i ask is that i am tying to automate some places of my apartament but the amazon echo is in the living room area. so i have to tell her while i am in the living room to turn on the bedroom lights before i go there. but i want to be able to turn on the bedroom lights when i go inside the bedroom. what are your ideas on this please? i would love to hear your thoghts :)
you should use samsung smart things hub thats what i do. I use a sensor in my room to turn the lights on when i enter and stay on until I leave. Then i have my alexa talking to my smart things hub to give me another option to turn it on and off as well as an app on my android wear watch, and a widget on my phone. they of course can also be controlled by my light switches too.
Use watch
I'm having issues with the IHC app connecting to my mini it just doesn't connect but it connects with the e control app. Any idea how to get this to work .
same for me Im just using the e control app too
Still no word on when the skill is available in the UK? And will Rm Plugin work with a firestick or Android box instead?
mardyy2011 hey man, yeah, the RM plugin should work on any Android device above 4.0 I use it on android set top box.
Broadlink are apparently waiting on Amazon. I haven't heard very good reports from the Americans about the skill though ;)
Paul Hibbert thanks very much buddy, I'll have a tinker with the old android box tonight, keep up the good work man, I purchased the RM mini 3 after watching this video. Any recommendations for budget smart thermostat?
+mardyy2011 no worries dude!
The hive stuff is the most affordable at the minute I think. It's about time China threw us something! :p
Hello Paul and another great video... I I was wondering what do you think about the sonoff wifi RF bride compared to the black bean and can you please do a review of the sonoff RF Bridge... Thanks
I started making a video but sadly it can only control about 50% of my devices. I contacted Sonoff and they didn't seem interested in resolving it, despite the fact I'd told them they could make A LOT of money with it!
Paul Hibbert That's how sonoff operates in general. They never promise features before implemention but they generally do get around to implementing user demands.
mini works with RF or only IR ???
Hi Paul, love the video tutorials! Great advice and entertaining. Quick question. I followed this tutorial and it worked initially, with an RM pro in one room and a mini Blackbean in the other, controlled through Google home. A couple of days ago the mini Blackbean stopped accepting voice controls. It works on the app and the scenes are still visible and Google accepts the command but does nothing. There has been an update this week. Is that the problem. Hope you can help and keep posting those videos mate! Thanks, Mark.
Hey dude, unfortunately yes, it is most likely the update. They've assured me it will be resolved in the next release. The only work around in the mean time is to add the buttons to a scene in IHC as Google Home will still find the scenes, you just may need to be a bit creative with naming the scene!
What if you no longer have a working remote to program the black bean?
good, can i install it in Argentina?
I got one but Alexa can't find any new devices I've setup on it.
can the mini broadlink work by itself or do I need a broadlink pro so I could just use the mini instead of buying both
+noah juarez it works on its own :)
Hey Paul, is it possible to use this with Apple homekit? Do I have to buy an Alexa/GH to use it with my voice?
I know people have managed to get it working with IFTTT, but I'm not sure how to do it, sorry dude
Is it possible to use this device to turn on an AC unit from outside the house, remotely login?
+Stephen Howell hi. Yes sure :) you'd just need to login to the app!
Love your vids. But £100? I think my Harmony Hub was a couple of quid short of £300! Hence why I started on the Broadlinks (which I LOVE!).I have 2 RM Pros (bedroom and lounge) plus a blackbean that I haven't deployed yet. Hoping I can use it in a guest room where RF isn't used. Keep up the great work, love the vids.
So could you use this with an LED light strip like in your videos with the RM pro but with this in the place of an RM pro?
+Robibobs Awesome Channel as long as it's an infrared LED strip (not RF) the yes! :)
Thx!
Can this thing connect with my fan,air conditioner & my rgb les lights ?
Irfan Mino3 hey dude, are they all controllable using infrared remotes?
yes and one more question can this do a voice command?
MINO3 yes
hii paul.. good video. RM mini 3 is supported TC2 broadlink switch??
Hey dude, thanks for the kind words, The TC2 is RF, so you need an RM pro to control it.
Can you download the rm plug in for iOS, I can’t find it an App Store
I think/ Hope it is the Broadlink APP.
Hi Paul, I'm stuck, my Alexa says it can't find any device and I should install smart home skill :( What do I do ?
RP yes
Hey @Paul Hibbert. What lamp is that? the one where you connected the Broadlink.
Hey man, it was the precursor to this one: amzn.to/2PPWJ4E You can't buy the exact one I have anymore, but the latest design is still very similar :)
Paul Hibbert Thanks!
Hi Paul, I enjoy watching your videos! I bought a RM mini 3 myself, and just set it up in my living room. Unfortunately, the distance between the device and the AC is too large and the IR signal doenst reach. I cant move it closer to the AC without compromising the IR signal to the TV and home cinema set. Does the RM pro have a stronger IR signal that could solve this issue? Thanks!
Hi man, sorry for the delay. Check out the Broadlink blackbean, you can add as many of them as you like to your existing RM pro and put them wherever you like and they're very affordable :) ua-cam.com/video/bw3MiZybm0Y/v-deo.html
Thanks for the reply! I don't have a pro, just the blackbean right now. Can I also setup multiple blackbeans to eachother? Is the IR signal from the blackbean the same as of the pro, is it weaker? The blackbean doesnt reach very far.
Joris van de Pavoordt yes you can have multiple black beans :)
I don't think there's any difference in distance, perhaps it is the reciever that is the issue, it may be a compatability thing.
I would start by trying to reprogram the remote in case it learnt a slightly marred code.
Thanks for the tip! Keep making your vids, they are really helpful!
Hi Paul looked through your vids , have i missed an item of sonoff, do these work with alexa , been looking around and sonoff works with ewelink but can it work with broadlink too , before buying sonoff ,I would like to know your comments thankyou
+John King hello mate. Not sure on whether broadlink can control them. I know that Alexa can as you said. Are they 433Mhz do you know?
Paul Hibbert hi Paul yay apparently they do work on 433mhz but don't come with a remote...found out on ebay
if you are refering to the sonoff s20 uk wall switches, then I don't think think they are 433mhz as they work with my samsung smart things hub and that doesn't do 433mhz, they are in fact wi-fi i believe.
Have any of you tried installing this the autovoice into the amazon fire TV device using the apps to fire app and then the broadlink app as well using the same method so that you can use the fire TV as a 24 hours ON android device... Can´t try yet cause I´m waiting for the Mini 3
And there is also a skill for alexa made by Autovoice... that´s another thing tu try
Paul you peeled my interest and I got this instead of the harmony in hope that I would at least turn on and off the tv via Alexa, but Alexa won’t find the device. I followed you directions, connected to WiFi, set up one button on/Off, downloaded the skill and signed into the IHC app. Tried to find device but after numerous attempts it can’t/won’t find it. Paul (or anyone else) have suggestions on somethings I can try, besides buying the harmony hub🙂
Jonny LOPIANO Make sure you set it up as tv in ihc app. Dosconnect broadlink skill from alexa app and reconnect it.
Mine keeps failing at the "app is inquirring device with ap of "Broadlink" ".
I have a Broadlink Mini 3.
Trying set up on Android.
Anyone any ideas?
Hey Paul, I love your videos and especially about the black bean but I can’t get Alexa to control my telly using the mini. Can you? I’m in the UK too and am having a nightmare with it. I’ve spoken to amazon and broadlink and neither think it’s their problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks dude :) This might help! : ua-cam.com/video/UCVK9sTxxRk/v-deo.html Let me know if not!
Thanks Paul. I have tried most of this but you’re using google home in that vid. I’m fully invested into Alexa and have the evil Apple rather than android but don’t have google home. I don’t think Alexa can handle scenes yet, can it?
Sorry, I gave you the wrong video!.... ua-cam.com/video/ENGoYuUsq6U/v-deo.html
OMG dude! It finally works!
In the end it was a combination of the first video (from which I learned about scenes) and deleting EVERYTHING for the millionth time and resetting it, then trying again and damn! It actually turns the telly on and off. Do you find issues with it recognising the virgin media remote? I’m gonna replace the batteries and see if it then picks it up. Other than that though, I’m pretty happy. Thanks for all you do. I’m a dedicated fan. Humbly, Neil Trigger
Download google translate and anything you hold your camera over it auto translates to whatever language you want. Every spoken language is available. I use it to decipher any Chinese instructions I need translation of. Plus you can take pictures of the document and translate it that way. It’s all instantaneous.
Thanks mate. I ended up using Google translate for that exact reason for a camera a few months later. Amazing technology.
I keep forgetting I have it though!
What do I buy, the Broadlink Blackbean or the new and cheaper Redbean? Edit: I found it on amazon.com not available on amazon.co.uk
Buy the blackbean. I have no idea why they've made the same product in red, but I wouldn't recommend buying it in case it's fake.
Hey paul.. I just got this devise and set it all up ok.. I already have the broadlink pro.... I checked my devices and it shows up I have 2 no problem. I test it using the remote commands. That works fine. I add the Alexa commands in the rm bridge that's OK.
When I tell Alexa to turn on my fan as this is used only for my fan in the bedroom. She says ok but send the signal out of the rm pro only it does not goto the rm mini. When I look in the rm link devise list. It shows 2 devises. However it Alexa is only sending to the pro.. Can u help.. Are u using 2 devises ok?
Hi Chloe, did you get this sorted? I think we've spoken since this message, but I don't remember. Sounds like you're already in the right place, you just tell the RM plugin to use the other device, I know it's a pain to figure out which is which as it's in Chinese, but yes; I'm using an RM pro and a blackbean and I just create the commands to point at whichever device I want to fire the signal.
Paul Hibbert yes I got it all working thanks paul
Broadlink came out with a new app in the App Store and Google Store that allows any of its Devices to connect directly to Alexa with out any middle Application. It's call the IHC
It has some good and some terrible. They emailed me saying to wait for the next app upgrade, which just came out and should fix the problems (hopefully).
On the good side, the IHC app follows the new Alexa protocols for AV devices in that if you first tell Alexa to do something with your AV device, e.g., "Alexa turn TV on", you don't need to mention TV again, e.g, "Alexa volume up", not, "Alexa, turn TV volume up". This works as long as you don't ask Alexa to do something else, such as play music, look up the weather etc. If you switch Alexa to another task, you have to mention TV or receiver, again.
On the bad side, it needs to link Alexa to the app and demands an email and password. It also came with preset controls for some brands (Not Sony or a bunch of other famous ones!) and, that Alexa had no problem discovering, but if you set up a brand new user configured remote, Alexa will not discover it. Hopefully that gets fixed in the new upgrade.
For Paul, the worst thing might be that -- I've heard -- IHC is not available in the UK Google app store. WHAT!
Oh, yeah, I forgot. All the codes that you spent an hour or two setting up in the E app, can not be shared to IHC , you have to start from scratch. DOUBLE PLUS WHAT?!!
DO you have a link to the app (i cant find it)
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.com.broadlink.econtrol.plus&hl=en
I'm in the UK and just downloaded the app from your link and it works just fine. :)
The developer just messaged me through the Alexa skills Amazon web site and told me that they are working on getting Alexa to discover user configured remotes. Until then, we should stick to Paul's method with the RM bridge.
Can I use an iPad to control this
Hey paul,
what is the name of your side lamp?
the one with the glass...
+Yuval G its the old Philips hue lamps that they don't do any more sadly. They are by far the coolest design they did too so it's a shame.
Paul Hibbert it looks so awesome
Is there a way to do this via iPhone? Absolute worst case we have an old Samsung tablet we can convert to be used solely as a smart home controller but we all use iOS devices in our home.
Hey dude, Broadlinks official skill works for Infrared now globally, and works for RF in America. Pretty sure the RF stuff probably works in the EU too, I've not tried it since they made some changes recently. This video will help you understand how that fits together these days: ua-cam.com/video/ENGoYuUsq6U/v-deo.html&lc=Ugy3zvj-9wm1AI4AipB4AaABAg
Got the rm mini 3 but I can only get it to turn tv on and off with alexa, I have tried to do a mute command which works when tested in plugin, but ask alexa and it doesn't work ,i'M STUMPED
Kane Travis It only does on/off. You have to basically use both for mute. Just make it learn the mute button and name the device mute
Just checking, just watched a tech with Brett video. The video didn't have anything about running an android device running... Do you still need the Android app or have things changed since this video ?
Hey dude, no. Not anymore! Check out some of my more recent videos, there's loads of Broadlink tutorials on my channel :)
Thanks Paul, your vids are great!
Hi Paul, many thanks for this (and all your other) videos. It's informative, and manages to be entertaining too - which is a nice bonus. I wonder if you can help with a problem. I bought a Broadlink RM mini3 using the link above. I only want to control my TV and YouView box so don't need RF support.
Thanks to you I have successfully set-up a basic set of buttons for the TV and TV box (I assumed I could add more at a later date). All appears fine in that I can access various functions using both e-Control and the RM plugin apps. As expected the various functions I have set-up show up in the Code List of the RM plugin and they work correctly when tested. However, when I go to Alexa Device List and select TV (for example) I can only access the On Command and Off Command (the same happens for the UA-cam box). These work fine via Alexa too, but I can't seem to add any of the other buttons which are working in the Code List of the Plugin app. Obviously I'd like to include functions other than just on and off (which is still magic btw) :) )
Clearly I'm doing something monumentally stupid. So, if you still monitor this page and you have time to help, could you please point in the right direction. Regards and thanks in advance.
Hi again, you can save yourself replying as I now realise the source of my monumental stupidity. I see that items in the Alexa Device List can only be on or off, so commands have to be manipulated to suit that limitation. The result is a bit longwinded, but I'm very impressed by your ingenuity in coming-up with this useful solution.
Thanks again and keep up the great work, Richard.
hi
this is also the same it does not let learn any of the remote
I have been experimenting using bluestacks to install android apps on my laptop, which it seems to be working great. It's much easier typing things on the computer to configure the broadlink remotes in apps. Since I don't have another phone, I might be able to setup my laptop to act like the bridge/android device at home, so I don't have to turn my phones wifi and other battery draining features on to work with alexa. Still experimenting on this.
+Stefanie Weaver I tried it a few years ago but couldn't get it to work. I didn't try very hard before giving up though so don't be too disheartened!
Paul I can't get my bean to lean my buttons and Google and Alexa won't work
Hi sir. It will work even my ac is not smart ac? Thank you
If your AC uses an infrared remote then yes! :)
@@paulhibbert thank u very much.
Hi got this and hooked it up to my tv and cable box worked fine. I then programmed my bose stereo which work fine in ihc app but when I ask alexa to turn it on I she can’t find it. My dad is having the same problem with his jvc. Any ideas?
Cassandra S gotta make a group then she can find it I had that issue
Drip Drip I’m new to this what do you mean group
In smart home section tap group, tap create group. then it will ask name the group like (living room) for example and what do you want in the group?!.pick the echo that you wanna use,the tv and the cable box and bose.check all those and save it. That's how you create a group then ask alexa to turn on or off...bcuz for some reason she act like she can't find it unless you do that
Drip Drip that is a great idea but she will not fine bose. She finds my tv and cable box no problem. When I made the bose remote I used the universal. Maybe that is why.
Cassandra S oh ok I thought you meant when you ask alexa to turn of and on she says I can't find that device but yet the device is listed . yea that's why the universal remote have to be the original
Another great instructional video... Thanks :-)
