You should include the Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant as well! Awesome new gadget that Lenovo and Google made, the screen adds so much more features to the assistant than any other smart home device. I would consider my house a smart home, since I'm using the Lenovo Smart Display as like a main console, and have other Google devices connected to it. You should definitely make a review about it!
Hello Russell... first off, thanks for taking the time to prepare this video and share your experience of this device - appreciated and 'thumbs up'... I live in the UK and I am steadily expanding my smart home - started with Phillips Hue bulbs, added Sonoff's, Nest thermostat and more recently, Logitech Harmony for controlling audio/visual (IR) devices. The Broadlink RM Pro+ might be a great way to control my garage roller door and kitchen cabinet lights (RF). Everything is currently voice controlled via Amazon Alexa... any advice appreciated...
I have no real experience with RF. So I cannot give any useful advice, the range may be an issue and finding a good position in which to place the unit for all of your requirements. I can say that this unit has a place in a smart home. Do not buy it if you can see a problem with range or positioning. Sorry I cannot be more specific. :-)
Thanks Russell for a swift reply... I hear what you say... just looking to order via Amazon but there are so many to choose from... some refer to the product as Broadlink RM Pro+ and others Broadlink RM Pro (minus the plus sign)... some also state 'updated'... are there different models? The iPhone app also works via the internet outside your home WiFi, so the comment is wrong. The RM Pro has the RF and IR blaster. If you only need IR control get the RM Mini 3 device which is smaller and much cheaper (US$10-15).
@adrian97c: Yes you can use any iPhone, iPad or Android device. You misunderstand how these IR blaster devices work. The app sends instruction to the RM Pro or RM mini via the internet (not just local network). This is possible cos the RM Pro/mini is connected to your router via WiFi. The RM Pro/mini then sends an IR (or RF) signal which your home device picks up.
Have you tested running macros with Alexa I can’t get on and off to work but I can get 1 or the other to work I think it’s more an Alexa prob as in she cant find the off op. Any ideas
Russell Platten thanks! I believe their website is kind of misleading.. they have a US and a UK versions of the same unit since 315MHz frequency isn't licensed in the UK and vise versa is the US. I believe all your RF devices are 433MHz as well.
Good day Russel and thanks for the informative video, is it possible to use this device to operate Garage rolling door opener? I tried but didn't work.
Nice review. Are you still using the Broadlink? Do you still like it? I would like to have my receiver, streaming device and Xbox in a closet. I think this would work since the Broadlink uses Wifi from the phone/tablet to the actual Broadlink device. However, I'm not sure how to control the TV if the Broadlink is in the closet with the rest of the devices. Any ideas?
can you run multiple scenes at the same? for example, turn on my projector and sound bar and then i have accent lights that i want to turn on and turn off (my accent lights is an ir remote) thank you for any and all help.
I do not think it will run two scenes simultaneously. You would have to run the first scene, wait for it to finish then run the second. You could make a longer scene to operate your cinema and lights with one press. :-)
ok i have a question for you i take it if its sends out a IR signal i take it whatever your controlling has to be with in your line of sight or does it convert it to a RF signal ..ie for me i have a fan light in the bedroom but will have the broadlink in the living room so i am assuming then that i cant control the fan in less the broadlink is in the same room
It works with both IR and RF remotes, but for IR operated equipment it needs to be line of sight. RF may travel through a wall, but probably not so I would suggest only line of sight for all applications Paul.
thanks for the fast reply so for me as i live in a smallish flat anyway i could just leave the broadlink in the bed room were the fan is ..as wife is disabled as always loses the remote ..so i could link this with alexa or google home and she can just use that to turn on bedroom light with fan
No Rishi, it is just like pressing a switch. The phone has to be on to press the switch, but you can turn it off until you want to press the switch again. :-)
Great Video. Thanks. One question: Can I control my aircon(on/off) via android phone when I'm away from home? Meaning if I'm at work and I wish to turn on my aircon using my phone before I reach home. Can this do it? Thanks again.
I am not sure to be honest Matt. At the time of making the video it was not possible in the UK. I think Broadlink have updated the app and software to fix this, but I am by no means certain. I did a little research, but could not find a definite answer. I have swapped over on to smart devices and use Amazon Alexa. In some ways the Broadlink is better because you can actually operate via a remote. My view would be that for the price it is worth a try, but that is only my view. The unit works very well as a control system around the house. Sorry I could not be of more help. :-)
@@RussellPlatten Thanks for the quick reply and for the honest answer. I have been reseaching around and even asked local broadlink supplier and they said it can be controlled via mobile phone when you are away from home. I will be meeting up with them tomorrow at their main office to find out more and update you with an answer. Again, thanks for the reply. Great job you have done. Have you tried out using the new app, "Home Intelligent Center" from broadlin? It's in playstore now.
richard selleck You'll only need one if controlling RF devices it doesn't matter about Wi-Fi, you could have it next to hub and rf would reach around house. I've had mine in place controlling my home since 2015, see my channel for videos of it.
Most equipment controlled by this uses IR and this is 'line of sight', so if your equipment is not RF the RM Pro will not work if it is in a different room. Your phone uses WIFI to communicate with the RM Pro, so you need to have a WIFI signal where it is placed. If you want to control multiple devices in different rooms and they are IR, it may be beneficial to get more units, but you could carry your RM Pro to each room and plug it in to use it. Seems like that would be a bit of a pain to me though.
Is there any way that you can preserve all your remote settings once you changed the password of your wifi after successfully connected it into the previous wifi password?
Do you need one device in everyroom or one device is enough to control all the devices in the entire house. Just got the xiaomi ver and the range is disappointing.
Hi Russell, I am planning to buy this device so i want to know that, where will i need to put this device if i want to control TV,AC,and my sony camera in my living room ? I mean , can I stick it on the sealing ? and is it IR blaster transmitting in 360 degree?.
Hi Kunal. The broad link has 360 degree IR coverage up to 12m. For IR to work, it needs to be placed in 'line of sight' to the device. I think the ceiling is workable if you are happy with placing it up there, but a shelf or mantle piece may be more convenient. :-)

Hi Paul, I am sorry, I do not know what the answer is. Have you tried contacting Broadlink for assistance. Here is the email address: support@ibroadlink.com
I don't have Google home. I would imagine it would talk to them all, so you would have to program your Broadlink units separately so that only one turns on the TV and sound bar and another turns on the bedroom lights. Just plan what each unit does carefully. :-)
Yes Gerald, it will work for any button on your remote and using the unit to change inputs is simple. However, if your TV is like all of mine and only has one button that needs pressing repeatedly to switch from one input to the other; programming a "scene" into the unit to turn on the TV and Bluray player, then select the correct input on the TV, becomes difficult. In order for the scene to work, the TV would need to be left on the same input every time or the unit would select the wrong one. If your TV has an individual button for each source then it would be easy. l am sorry if I have not explained this very well. :-)
Russell Platten makes perfect sense 👍 I suspect could you record select tv menus and then navigate to individual inputs within a scene, this way you always land on the right input for your Blu-ray or set top box etc.
+Gerald Collier Yes Gerald that would work. Select menu, then each button press to arrive at the right input. It would work for a dedicated scene. Never thought of that! I think I will program a couple more scenes! Thank you :-)
i managed to program the tv input switch using my harmony remote. its way better than the rm pro if you want to program combos. now i have to figure out how to make the sound box to switch to channel 1 when i watch tv and then switch to channel 2 when i watch a movie. i will probably use the harmony remote again. this rm pro is a joke if you want combos. i suggest you buy a harmony remote

With this y can manege the two device only with the remote control of the smart tv? thanks a lot
Hi Patricio, I do not think it is possible to do what you want with the Broadlink. You could try using the headphone socket on your TV. Connect the headphone socket to the soundbar if it has a 3.5mm input. Turn the volume up on the soundbar and then use the TV remote to adjust the volume via the headphone socket. This should work if the soundbar has a3.5mm aux input. :-)

Hi Paul, I am sorry, I do not know what the answer is. Have you tried contacting Broadlink for assistance. Here is the email address: support@ibroadlink.com
i have thanks it may be a bug as i see loads of people have same problem ..but thanks for the reply anyway
You are welcome. I hope you manage to sort it out. :-)
How do Google Home understand which one is which if you have several broadlink rf devices in your home ?
I don't have Google home. I would imagine it would talk to them all, so you would have to program your Broadlink units separately so that only one turns on the TV and sound bar and another turns on the bedroom lights. Just plan what each unit does carefully. :-)
@@RussellPlatten Okey thank you !
:-)
Can you use it to change inputs on the TV?
My iPhone does not have IR, will this work for me?
Yes Adrian, the iPhone uses WiFi to communicate with the Broadlink unit.
adrian97c Yes it will, the broadlink has infrared and radio control to control your devices.
Russell Platten how do I set this up on my Samsung Galaxy s8
You need to download the App, connect your broadlink to the wifi (using the app) and set it up as shown in the video.
Russell Platten the app keeps saying system error when I try create an account
Can I use it for the PlayStation 4 as well?
I do not think so as the Playstation 4 controller uses bluetooth to communicate with the console and the console does not have an IR receiver.
Russell Platten oh ok! Thank you very helpful!
:-)
Russel, where u able to make it work with Siri?
I never tried. I used the app to control it. I have Amazon Echo now, but that is a much more expensive option. :-)
Just so I thought. I hope manufacturer update its software to accommodate Siri.

Can I control an RF based curtain remote from this product
It should work. :-)
sorry for my english, i have a smart tv and a home theather connected with optical wire... this connection not permit to manage a volume of the hometheather with the smart tv remote control. at this moment i need the two controls(the remote control of smart tv to manege all tv (without volume) and the remote control of the hometheather for the volume). with this broadlink can i configure to when the volumen up of smart tv control is pressed sent the volumen up for hometheather code? same for volumen down.
@@RussellPlatten the Smart TV do not have a 3.5 conector...AND this connection Is not digital i lose 5.1 channels. Thank for your answer
@@patriciomunoz8618 Does it have a HDMI ARC connection?

Hi Russel which are main differences from Broadlink RM Pro and Broadlink RM Pro+ Thanks, I want to use it to control IR and RF Devices inside my house through GOOGLE HOME MINI.
Hi Patrick. I have heard that people have problems with the newer versions of the RM Pro when it comes to RF devices. I would spend a little time researching exactly what you want to do before purchasing. I have no experience with Google Home Mini, so cannot give you any useful advice. :-)
Damn! That's a rubbish volume control function. Was hoping to replace my Peel/Pronto setup with this.
This universal control works with alexa?
+Viko Terrazas Apparently it does. I do not have Amazon Echo, so have no experience of using it.
Russell Platten oh ok thanks for your reply! Great videos!
+Viko Terrazas :-)
Yes it does
Check channel named '' Paul Hibbert '' . You can find every single answer you need about amazon echo + Broadlink RM Pro combination
When pressing "add device" I get "unknown ssid" and can't configure the device on my WiFi. Any solution?
Not sure why you cannot connect to your router Milton. Try searching for problems with your router and the Broadlink unit, you may find the answer online. :-)
@@RussellPlatten thanks for the quick reply. It finally worked. And I don't know how 😅
