- In this video I unbox and review the Broadlink RM Mini 3 universal remote and then take you through a full tutorial on how to automate, via Alexa, one of the dumbest devices in my house to show you what this amazing little gadget can do.
Smart home automation can be very rewarding sometimes and no more so when you've got dumb devices in your home that you apparently can't automate.
Don't suffer in silence wondering what you're going to do, I've found a solution to a really annoying problem I have with some dumb devices and before long you'll be automating every dumb device in your home with this universal remote, it really is that easy!

my mind is full with ideas now, thanks!
No problem, I'm walking around the house looking for things I can hook up but that might mean getting another one 🤔
I believe now you can use the broadlink app which Is much better and nicer looking interface. Thanks for the video setup.
Yes the app in the video now prompts you to use the new version. I've yet to give it a try but interested to see what they've done.
Nice review, the OH has those candles totally agree they're a pain.
Yes they are!
Great walk through
Thanks!
Does this work if you have more than one set of candles?
Got two sets in the same room, they each have their own remote but it outputs the same signal so when the rm mini sends the signal it switches them both on. I'm fine with that as that's what we want but if you want them to fire separately then, in the same room, it might be a problem.
Can this control my Sky HD box when I am away from home?
Sky TV boxes are listed as devices you can control with it and you can control Alexa remotely, although I haven't tried, so in theory it should work.
@@Byteofgeek thanks
Why did you get the RM Mini 3 and not the 4?
As far as I'm aware there's no fundamental difference between the two other than the design. I prefer the look of the Mini 3 over the 4 personally.
Can you show how to do the colors?
I'll do a follow up video ASAP 👍
@@Byteofgeek did you do the follow up video ,great explaination of the device 👍
Thanks, there seemed to be little interest in that as a follow up so it never made it onto the channel
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT BUY this crap: the RM Mini 3. IT DOES NOT CONNECT to the app anymore. It worked up to a point when they made app upgrade. The hardware it's OK but it's clear that Broadlink (who are obviously big crooks) want you to buy the newer version 4. I've tried everything (on IOS) all the apps IHC, Broadlink app, Broadlink e-control. It simply cannot connect to the device using both available connection methods. Piece of Crap
Not having a problem myself, using the Broadlink app instead of IHC and connected to the European servers. I've only got 4 devices set up but it is working. I'm using 1.7.0 of the app btw
