Fish and Chips on a Friday Eve - and ON THE BUSES - wonderful x
When actors were humble unlike today's full of themselves.
Brilliantly cast and written show, huge success and the stars so gracious.
@James Henderson if its racist then they would only allow certain races to watch it. They woukdnt cast them either. In a predominantly white country they were having jokes just like other countrys do to minorities back then it didnt mean they hated them and it went both ways with humour. Most people could take a light hearted joke unlike the pure hatred towards anyone who wants a harmless joke nowadays. There is a huge difference between light humour and pure evil racism which clearly you dont see.
James Henderson wrong? That’s how you perceive it🤔
He was one of the true greats and a real gentleman. A wonderful family man and never a breath of scandal during his career. RIP Reg, you are sadly missed.
"On the Buses" was widely condemned as racist.
shelby6571 miss him loved him he was great in The Busses as Stan Buttler
@@markharrison2544 and absolutely brilliant
On The Buses Regularly pulled in Viewing figures of TWENTY MILLION A WEEK!!!
@@markharrison2544 it was widely praised as funny thats all that counts
My grandparents were neighbours of his : sent them a Christmas card every year even after ho'd moved away .....
Good old times then absolutely sad times now television is dire world gone crazy
Absolutely 100%
I love it how he was concerned about giving out the rest of the prezzies to the kids when the surprise was sprung....
My grandad George Shears is in this as he did the working men’s clubs with Reg and he died six months before I was born so seeing him in this is emotional as until seeing this I never heard his voice 🥺 thank you for posting this on here.
Hi glad I could bring these to you good luck 👌
Don’t believe everything people write.. a lot of like famers out there
Television was so much more civilised back in those days.
What a great guy he was, and so humble, a sure sign of greatness.
Such a nicer world than it is now.
Video's of this period depress me, it reminds me of how this country has slipped, back then all institutions of Britain worked for the common good, not nowadays, people were so much more respectful then, dressed well, look around nowadays, life has turned into bad soft porn.
Kevin Baird
You’ve mirrored my feelings exactly. It feels like there’s a light went out, in fact lots of lights since then. The world seems so much darker nowadays.
I agree from bc canada
Just thinking now in August 2021, most of these people are long dead. As I will be in 40 years (if I'm lucky)
Brought me to tears many times over the years. But all the gang on `On the Buses` acted their roles to perfection. Sadly comedy today does not even come near to what we had back then .Glad Reg got his day..and deservedly so. Thanks for posting.
soundnicetome agree very well cast and good well thought out scripts..
+Sean Gaming Who's alive? Olive?
Kim Gaming r
well said
@@weskitten as of January 1, 2019 Anna Karen (Olive) is the only recurring cast member still living.
I met Reg in the local pub when I lived in Budleigh. He was a lovely man, great piano player and a wonderful artist too.
A local pub.. or THE local pub 😂 Budleigh! 😂 i was born n bred in Cornwall england so know what places are like
They don’t make British comedy like they use to , open all hours , on the buses , rising damp , and many more , best ever
All racist series.
But you would say that , back then nobody saw it as racist , to many snowflakes now a days
@@deborahfiddler939 "Rising Damp" was widely condemned as racist at the time.
Well the coloured guy in it didn’t seem to mind , but yet others do , like I said , to many snowflakes
when telly was worth watching
Gone but NEVER NEVER Forgotten, thank you Reg .
Who's never forgotten?
@@thegreenbastard5171 REG.
@@thegreenbastard5171Boris Johnson, who do you think?
The national pride we used to have, beautiful days.
He was a legend a true legend god bless you Reg
Reg Varvney was one of England’s best comedy actors. A real gentleman in every sense of the word. Loved him in on the buses.,
I met him at Heathrow airport once and made him laugh by asking for his autograph the only paper I had was a bus ticket and on the buses was huge at the time
Brilliant!👍
Lucky bugger! I'd love to have met Reg.
@@danw1374 he was a lovely guy always had time for his fans as he once with out them I don't exist
@@markbarker6739 I can believe that. These were proper stars with no airs or graces about them, to them it was just a job and they were glad of the work. Although saying that when my brother was little in the early 1970s he met Tommy Trinder and he wasn't very pleasant unfortunately.
Words cannot describe the emotions I'm feeling right now I remember watching this on our black&white tv
A REAL entertainer, and an even better person RIP Mr. Varney. On the buses was IMO one of the very best TV series to ever come out of the U.K I think it had the most talented cast ever assembled, and the writing team of the two Ronald's was second to none.
Great watching this. Reg Varney reminded me of Benny the Ball from Topcat when I was a kid watching on the buses. His photo appears on the front of Barclays Bank Enfield commemorating the first use of ATM machine.
Great entertainer, from a great comedy On The Buses, RIP Reg.
things like this make me so nostalgic for a Britain I have never been a part of, but I wish I was.
Lovely guy. Loved on the buses, still watch it now!! Shame his co star got so depressed. Most of them now have passed away so sad. Thank you for uploading x
Bob Grant never worked again.
Mark Harrison yes unfortunately he got really depressed and sadly committed suicide
Pure class and so humble
An adorable man who made people laugh. And there is nothing nicer you can do for your fellow man. He was also fine musician too. But he couldn’t drive a bus! But what a lovely fella, much missed.
Reg Varney had a full psv licence which he acquired in the army
Thanks for uploading this little gem. On The Buses always brings back memories of growing up in the '70's. My grandparents would have it on the telly while babysitting us. Can't get the smile off my face now!
My grandad George Shears was part of a musical duo with Reg (06:40). Sadly my grandad died in 1986 when I was 4. But it's so lovely to see him when he was healthy. Thanks for sharing!
Bless him, seems like a lovely guy.
Remembering as a child, my father and uncle taking my sister and two or three cousins to a drive in movie to see on the buses. What a great time.
Reg Varney was the first man to use a cash machine in Britain.
Great Show, bring it back. Love watching This Is Your Life.
A genuinely nice bloke
i loved on the buses and reg varney fantastic bloke i wish i could of met him
One of my fav sitcoms, don’t make them like that any more sad really but we had the best upbringing and best tv shows back in the 60,70,and 80s, after that it went down hill sit coms aren’t funny any more.. Good old reg even bob grant went in a sad way taking his own life sadly both my fav characters. Thanks to UA-cam we can still watch these sit coms thanks for sharing
Another of Those Characters Who had Longevity, Talent, and seemed a Decent Human being. Thanks for the memories Reg.
June Whitfield back then what a tiger!
Grew up watching so many of these comedy classics, He died just a few miles from me in a nursing home in East Devon..
He died a few miles from you??? What a charming heart warming story!
This is my best tv serious show ever on the buses Reg varny is very good as a comedian and I love this show it's very funny most like real family's in the 1970s were like this show
Wonderful actor and man. Love him to bits!
Love Reggy...and he had such beautiful hair!!!
,your joking he must have used a tub of brycream every day
'This is your Life' with Eamonn Andrews. This brings back wonderful childhood memories for me. And what can you say about Reg. On the buses as such an ICONIC British SITCOM. Reg was a lovely man - a true one off entertainer.
I don't think i ever missed an episode and you laughed so much you had belly ache.
I know that ITV air On the Buses from time to time and i have watched them over and over but each episode still makes you laugh.
where has all good times have gone?
A gifted and comical actor. Feel proud to know I went to the same Junior School as Reg Varney in Canning Town. Also David Essex (nee Cook) was a famous pupil at Star Lane School too. Loved all the cast in On the buses especially Reg, Olive and Doris Hare!😍 Fond memories of a bygone era.
Brilliantly, funny comedian. My favourite comedy of my childhood.
50 years ago this month (May 1970) One of the all-time greats!
IM ON A HUGE ON THE BUSES BINGE LATELY, ESPECIALLY THE WHOLE SERIES UPLOADS ON YOU TUBE.
Reg a legend and all the on the buses cast too brilliant comedy
Simply beautiful..and what a legend. We all miss u Reggie boy xx
reg was the first person to use a hole in the wall cash machine!
Really?
I thought that was Lord Alfred Douglas
The world's first "hole in the wall" was unveiled at Barclays bank in Enfield, north London, on June 27 1967.
As a tribute to the golden anniversary, Barclays has transformed the modern-day ATM into gold.
The invention was the brainchild of John Shepherd-Baron, who Barclays commissioned to create six cash dispensers.
On the Buses TV sitcom actor Reg Varney was the star of the opening and the first person to use the state-of-the-art invention.
Was a publicity stunt he wasn't even that big a star in 67, they used to have to go in the bank and get a cashier cheque to put in the machine.
Reg was fantastic and wasn't it great to see Babs (Barbra Windsor)
Love the look on Reg' face when Eamonn Andrews says "Actor/comedian Reg Varney, tonight This is your life".
+Sherbet Fountain He was surprised... he had no idea
+Sherbet Fountain yeah I saw that.
He really never recognised Eamonn Andrews. Seemed like a lovely man.
Still watch on the buses today. Love it.
Me too 😀
Me too my boxset is priceless to me
@Gary Wicks. I have the box set too.
@@annann9909 nice 👍👍
Oh bless his beautiful heart ❤. He is so dearly missed and remembered so fondly and brought so many happy memories to us all.
reading his autobiography being a big fan of on the buses and being surprised by the fact he was a good piano player like another hero of mine chico marx!
R.I.P reg a legend.
A delightful and wonderful video. Watching from Columbus Ohio. Cheers!
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
You can see Doris Hare loved Reg very much.
my mothers fav programme.
Enjoyed the video. Brought tears to my eyes. Will never forget on the buses.❤

On the buses was fantastic a great cast of actors
Reg Varney. Great actor and a very funny man.
Wow look at Barbara Windsor.
What a great Actor. Sadly missed now :-( He was not like modern actors that enjoyed all the public fame. he was humble
“Il get you Butler” !!
How can anyone tick an unlike on this film how bizarre
Blimey, Barbara Windsor is pretty lively! 😁
June Witfield was hot back in the day..
Dutch Van Helsing Never mind June - check out Pat Combes😋
Bet the Mrs's enjoyed Barbara's entrance!
Great pianist, Reg
Too good for carry on 👍
loved it thanks for posting loved reg lovely too see wonderful babs windsor too
Top man class on the buses the good old days when celebs were normal people an didnt think of thereself above rest
Reg was a superb actor
It was only briefly mentioned but he was an incredible artist.
If you saw his paintings you would know what i mean.
Reg was my late nans cousin 😘
Reg was also the first person in the UK to use a bank ATM cash machine in Enfield when they were first introduced; Barclays Bank I think it was that used Reg to promo their new service.
Barbara Windsor is gorgeous
I can hear Blakey saying "c,mon c,mon Get that bus out Butler"
That man was loved.
Being from Canada and from a modern age; I often watch these kinds of things. I can tell you about stars of the 70's + 80's in the USA + UK and even France (I'm French-Canadian from a family dynasty going back 143 years in Canada/France) Nothing brings me more joy than watching shows like On The Buses/Only Fools and Horses/Upstairs Downstairs over your neck of the woods. I've even got a thing for Inspector Morse in the late 80's/early 90's although I ordered some episodes of Lewis I found it too 'box ticking/cultural marxist' for my liking. British comedy is hilarious. French is more philosophical (I won't go into your sworn enemies and their shows LOL) and whimsical. The USA: Oh god: I could go on about Robert Conrad, Barbara Parkins, Jacyln Smith, Karen Grassle, Peter Falk, etc. I'm obsessed with 70's and 80's stuff. My point: I wish you'd get back to this instead of BOX TICKING. How far our society has fallen :(
You are absolutely spot-on with the cultural Marxist stuff it's absolutely terrible and is destroying the West.
Lovely man. R. I. P. Reg.
Never seen Blakey with glasses
Every time I get the underground to Stratford and I go through Canning Town, I always think of Reg Varney. Wasn’t he great giving out the books to those children?👍🏻
Such a natural pure talent
Even though he was a comic he kinda reminded me of a smartly dressed gangster..lol
Legend. R.I.P Reg.
Yes, it is sad. He lived a long good life though mate, 97, is a long life. I would have liked to have met him myself. We will meet him in the next realm. There is no comedy actor as good as Reg. not in my eyes anyway, And most certainly not in these days, the only one that comes close is Benny Hill. Can't beat the old 70s, 80s British comedies. On The Buses and The Benny Hill Show you just can't beat them.
Sean Gameing Stephen Lawrence ( inspector Blake ) died last week. All the TV legends are dying off.
I was watching On The Buses the other day as a tribute, I have them all on DVD There is only Anna Karen left out the cast now. I wonder where his funeral is?
***** Yeah, I know. She never done much since On The Buses. she done the odd appearance in Eastenders, that's about it isn't it?
+stuart pattison Anna Karen is now 79 and was the staff of Brewer's Drama Academy in Essex. As far as I know she is still an examiner for New Era Academy Exams Board in Speech & Drama which has a distinguished 75 year history. She appeared as Peggy Mitchell's sister in Eastenders sporadically from 1996 onwards. She trained for 3 years at the South African National Theatre and has a huge range of theatre roles to her credit . She was touring with productions well into the early 2000s. Yes she was both a model and a stripper at the Panama Club London when she arrived in the UK. I guess that makes it even more surprising that her most famous TV role was as dowdy Olive. All the best.
He was a happy go lucky man. Like my self.we must be related.😀
