I was about to say the same thing...an absolute disgrace, especially as she is very proud of her Welsh parentage and even spoke Welsh with her grandparents when she lived with them during the war.
One particular memory her song, 'Downtown' evokes for me is my time working in a residential hospital for adults with learning disabilities. One resident who was severely learning disabled and sightless would only ever show a spark of animation whenever this song was played.She absolutely adored it and would listen to it on a loop 24/7 had it been permitted. The only word of the song she knew was 'Downtown' which she'd belt out with real gusto, then she'd mumble along with the rest of the song. So thank you, Petula, for this.

In a similar vein, I saw the Sofology commercial with Helena Bonham Carter and it made me see her in a new light, but what gave me chills is her grandfather was named Righteous among the Nations, by Israel for saving thousands of Jews by giving them Spanish visas.
