Brian and yootha had magic on screen chemistry. So sad she didn't live to do more comic world needs more people like her . She was born same year as my mama 1927.
Brilliantly naturally talented funny man, he made comedy look effortless, I grew up watching M.A.T.H & George and Mildred, Yootha Joyce was also awesome in those shows & I can’t believe it’s almost 40 years since she tragically lost her life at the early age of 53. Great memories though. 😢
After this was filmed, he also went on to have a very long run starring in Last of the summer wine as Alvin, he lived in Compo's house after Compo had died.
George and Mildred, the most funniest and best ever to me, your a great and wonderful person Brian, may God bless you and your family in Jesus Mighty name
The show/television series I liked him in was "Last of the Summer Wine". Just loved the character, Alvin Smedley. Thank you, Brian, for making this little old lady laugh.
It was funny in George and Mildred when George said, whilst doing his crossword "Three letters." "Sat on the mat." thinks a bit "Oh yeah,Cow." Don't forget that his Goldfish,Moby floats to attention! Comedy legend!
We just don't get "Shows" like this anymore. We don't have any "Real" TV personalities to interview anymore. Most now have either passed away, or are too old to be on TV anymore. The last time I saw Brian on TV he was on "Last of the Summer Wine" I believe he is still around but in his 90's he will now be deemed to be too old. Sad, but these old Comedy Legends are now just a distant memory.
Truly sad when Joyce died in 1980,she was the star of George and Mildred killing a fourth series ,and ending one of the best double acts on TV,and getting This is your life with out her cause she was a major part, but didn't the little old man do well with sexy young wife.
I think it was before ITV, which seemed low-brown at the time for BBC. To be honest both channels churned out a lot of rubbish. He did a fair bit of light physical comedy in George and Mildred.
I have the entire series of "George & Mildred" and I "Love" this and other "Sit-coms" of that time. We just don't get Comedy like we used to have. I salute you Brian, and also Richard O'Sulivan who was the "Man About the House" and later in "Robin's Nest" Great Comedy" which I also have on DVD. Great Shows from a By-Gone Era.
The fact every single comment on here is so positive shows how loved Brian is. My family knew someone who worked at Thames TV in the 70s and they said him and Richard O'Sullivan in particular were really kind and charming, nobody had a bad word to say about them.
Yootha gave so much, to so many.Sorry she couldn't give so much joy to herself. Sometimes we find ourselves getting completely lost & at times frightened of what lies ahead. For her, she blocked the way with alcohol. She lives on, in the make believe World. Some actors can look a little dated on screen, as the years pass. Yootha doesn't & I'm sure she will go on giving joy for years to come! 🌻♥️
A lovely tribute to Yootha. Did you know she was married to Glyn Edwards ( Dave the barman in Minder) ??? I still watch Man about the house & George & Mildred on ITV 3. Robert from Manchester
Wow, what a lovely man, until today I didn't know anything about him ,he is such a lovely all-round man. Unsung hero and I hope he is well wherever he is
In lockdown I've been watching George n Mildred for the first time. We weren't allowed to watch it when I was a kid in the '70s...my mum only liked BBC! Really love stories and scripts, all the episodes were funny ♥️Great to see This is Your Life as well
The very beautiful man Brian Murphy who as George roper holds a place In my memories as a child and later in last of the summer wine. A gem of a English entertainer. A long life of making people laugh and smile..
Wonderful, funny, and kind man. He starred in one of my favourite sit coms - George and Mildred. They just simply dont make them like that anymore. Happy days then. The days we had proper entertainment on TV.
I like the way his sons went to an ordinary school no private schools for them. The school we went to was a secondary school in Tufnell Park. Kevin was a good looking lad then and even tho this was 1998 he is still very handsome. ❤️
Lovely - I know martha and I had the wonderful experience of having dinner with Mr Murphy in Brighton around the time this was made - he was an absolute gent x
I cannot believe I’ve never known the real name of George from George & Mildred. It was one of my fave sitcoms along with Man about the House. The good old days when TV had a remote control with 4 excellent channels.
Just spotted that, when he was surprised by the Big Red Book, he uttered the words, "I'm too old for this!" Coincidentally, 24 years earlier, when his co-star in Man About the House, Richard O'Sullivan, had been the subject of This is Your Life, Richard's first words were "I'm Too Young for This" (also on UA-cam). I wonder if this was a coicidence or whether Brian Murphy was remembering and used the phrase deliberately, twisting it slightly.
What a lovely, genuine, funny and generous man this shows us he is. It's shame This is Your Life isn't still made to show the person behind the characters they play....way better viewing than all of this reality crap advertised now.....I say advertised because I won't lower myself to watch it.
It could never work now as everybody is monitored back then with no cameras on everything and mobile phones, it wouldn't stay a secret for long. I'm working my way through them slowly. They were hardworkers throughout their lives.😊
Tears are Rolling down my cheeks.
Not only a great actor, but a lovely man.
If only Yootha could have been there.
Absolutely
Brian Murphy is one of Britain's greatest comedy actors and thankyou for all the laughs god bless you also RIP Yootha Joyce ❤
A national treasure and comedy legend
Brian and yootha had magic on screen chemistry. So sad she didn't live to do more comic world needs more people like her . She was born same year as my mama 1927.
💯
God bless her they had amazing chemistry on tv.
Tears are rolling down my cheeks too! A genuinely nice man, thank you for all the pleasure you have given!
never ages.. legend
A very fine actor but more importantly a very fine human being
This is absolutely fantastic I love watching these old programmes.
Brian Murphy is such a lovely man, and a ridiculously versatile talent too!
After this was filmed, he also went on to have a very long run starring in Last of the summer wine as Alvin, he lived in Compo's house after Compo had died.
Well someone had to take care of the ferrets lol
@@rutgersplague4595 True, but i remember Compo left his ferrets to His secret lady friend, who was played by Liz Fraser in two episodes😀
George and Mildred, the most funniest and best ever to me, your a great and wonderful person Brian, may God bless you and your family in Jesus Mighty name
what a lovely man love ya brian
a wonderful man, god bless you!
That was so awesome what a great person
The show/television series I liked him in was "Last of the Summer Wine". Just loved the character, Alvin Smedley. Thank you, Brian, for making this little old lady laugh.
Are you a plastic dolly? 🙌🙌🐸🐸👽
Yes a great show where he played along with many other tv stalwarts. Including are you being served Captain.
@@TheKonga88 Dolly is short for Dorothy. Was my gran and aunties name.
A genuinely funny man and a gentleman, one of my favourite British actors
Highly talented actor. His performance as Arthur Lucan is memorable.
What a delightful man
It was funny in George and Mildred when George said, whilst doing his crossword "Three letters." "Sat on the mat." thinks a bit "Oh yeah,Cow."
Don't forget that his Goldfish,Moby floats to attention! Comedy legend!
george roper was a great laugh.
Great comedy actor.
Haha love how Debbie McGee hasnt changed in the slightest
Paula Wilcox just gets better looking with time.
Marvelous
if you had the pleasure of watching him you have laughed

A kind decent sort and gave us alot of laughs.
It was strange. When those foster children came out I had an allergic reaction and my eyes started watering real bad.......
Kevin was the son I new quite well. Happy days
Truly sad when Joyce died in 1980,she was the star of George and Mildred killing a fourth series ,and ending one of the best double acts on TV,and getting This is your life with out her cause she was a major part, but didn't the little old man do well with sexy young wife.
She looked very pie-eyed in the movie and to be honest, was a weak spin-off. I liked how it did have an open-ending which sadly was never to be.
Just named my kittens george and mildred...
Please, don't you have or don't you know where to see This Is Your Life of Carmen Silvera?
More should have been said of the lost of his brave brothers

30 second mention of George and Mildred. Wtf, that's what most of us know him from.
I think it was before ITV, which seemed low-brown at the time for BBC. To be honest both channels churned out a lot of rubbish. He did a fair bit of light physical comedy in George and Mildred.
Rip died 5 years after this
Whatever happened to yootha joyce
Brian Murphy….I don’t know eh!
Slightly uncomfortable seeing current wife hanging onto his hand so demandingly
Interesting they waited so long. 1998 is pretty late in his career.
Passive aggression 3:01
I don't believe it! @2:31
2024 still going strong. Legend.
Brian is a national treasure .George and Mildred was / is one of the best comedys ever made.
I love it
What a lovely, lovely man.

One of the best episodes I've ever watched. Never knew what a fine human being Brian was/is. A very kind, genuine and good man.
So many foster children illustrates why he wasn't jus a great actor but a great person too.
Yootha Joyce just saying "George" brings back my childhood !
Shame Yootha Joyce ( Mildred) passed away, i'm sure she was there in spirit!
The fact every single comment on here is so positive shows how loved Brian is. My family knew someone who worked at Thames TV in the 70s and they said him and Richard O'Sullivan in particular were really kind and charming, nobody had a bad word to say about them.

Beautiful, this is a genuine classic.
A real talent deserving a This is your life tribute and a great person in real life.
loved man about the house and george and mildred. 2 of the best comedies ever.
George and Mildred One of the finest sitcoms that Britain has ever produced.
It's still funny no matter how many times you watch it
I wholeheartedly agree and unfortunately don’t make gems like these anymore. 🏴🇬🇧💕
@Jesus Defender Norman Eshley was there. He came on with Richard O'Sullivan and Paula Wilcox.

The one person there in spirit if not in body.- and we all know who. Still much missed after all these years.
Yootha Joyce
24yrs ago.... How time flies away.. He looked good here..
He seems a very comfortable, warm human being, the way he hugs the guests.
Such a nice, unaffected, unassuming man.
Love Brian such a humble and gentle guy, superb actor , been on so many great shows, lovely man
His one line comebacks are still as funny as they were in the shows. Great actor him and Yootha Joyce were my childhood.
A great actor and a lovely man.

What a wonderully humanist Brian is. It takes a really special kind of person to adopt children and change their lives for the better.

I think deliberately, I've just watched that one tonight I thought the same as you
I know everyone mentions George and Mildred but man about the house was equally blessed by George and Mildred..a great screen couple.
A very sharp witted man. Love his style of acting and has done more than people think
The type of comedies brian was in will never be matched...they were and still are awesome to watch..
He said himself he wasnt a comedian. He was a comedy actor who was given a fantastic opportunity to work with the best writers.
Brian Murphy was so talented ..and such a nice person too 👍

Yootha had the most amazing clothes. I remember her banana trousers.😂
I love this guy
Aww... what a lovely lovely guy!!!
I know it's not mentioned during the program but I know that this actor also played Stan the shopkeeper in the CITV TV series called Wizadora
Brian, always made me laugh, dont know why he just does !

Loved Brian Murphy in man about the house and George and Mildred with the brilliant yootha Joyce sadly missed ❤️
What a lovely man and entertainer. He's done so much.😊 George and Mildred what a couple especially in Man about the house.....
Brian Murphy has aged well, look about the same just a little grayer.
He’s always looked about 60 and never seems to age
Now that is a true Legend right there!
