      @@overviewworkflow3502 I am facing one issue repeatedly. Whenever I do a recording and save it as a pattern name and go back to the same recorded pattern name later on, I can only see the 1st performance associated it, the one which I selected before pressing the record button (both in record screen part 1-8 as well as in the recorded audio in the edit/job section in the overview section) No other performance can be seen in that pattern name even after storing pattern and performance settings.
      However, when I add the same performances again manually, the recorded part comes back.
      Please help.

    🔧⚙️🎹 thanks ... I plan to buy one. I was going for the DX7 sounds and available possibilities. Also watched a video " how to fix thin acoustic piano sounds on the MODX " that was a game changer. The guy showed how to increase key velocity making brighter louder sounds. That was very convincing. Without your video, I would probably hate this synth.

    I remember it being easier to sequence back in the 90s without touch-screens. Also, only Yamaha in 2020s could have touch-screen, but no grid, piano roll pattern edit. My Roland V-Synth from 2003 takes way better advantage of it's early touch-screen, grid interface for pattern editing, you can draw any automation, modulation with your finger, etc... I don't know what's wrong with Yamaha, I think Akai MPC Key is a better option for a similar price.

    • @overviewworkflow3502

      John yes you are right is always been awkward making a sequence with the Yamaha stuff however is very powerful, if you think of it as arming and disarming tracks, just like you would in any daw or dedicated recorder then it becomes easier to use and also always making sure that we are always recording on the same phrase. Also the scene navigation is powerful for love use. Anyway, I find it easier to connect it to an ipad and using it with Cubasis. All in all is a matter of using the sequencer on the MODX more and more and we eventually get use to it haha

Would it be feasible to program an automatic accompaniment following the chords I am playing with my left hand? Would it then be possible to play a melody at the same time with the right hand and record the whole performance (including switching the "scenes=style variations" manually) to a linear song format? Cheers

Mostly I used MV08 built from scratch. Once I built the drum loops I needed I transfer them to Cubasis on the iPad than connected the MOdX to the iPad via USB and recorded in top of the drum tracks as audio. All the sounds and percussions came from the MODX except obviously the Trumpet on the song Whispers and

    Hi Eddie G! Thank you for this video! -- I took your suggestion and stared working with Cubasis 3 - as a sequencer with my MODX. How do I 'mixdown' the song if the sounds are all generated by the MODX? It plays fine when all MIDI channels are recorded in Cubasis, but when I select 'Mixdown' with cubasis, nothing! no sound is converted, and the .wav file is empty. How did you record the sound for your album using MODX and Cubasis? Thanks!

    • @edgaba
      @edgaba  3 роки тому +1

      In my album I only recorded audio tracks into Cubasis. I plug the MODX to the iPad using a CCK and I find it best to create the audio tracks in stereo. (They are mono by default) that’s how I did it. However if you want to use MIDI so you can edit stuff you.l could record everything in MIDI, edit and than replay everything into Audio tracks. One thing you can try is to freeze the track; I’m not sure what will happen but maybe, just maybe it will convert the MIDI to audio automatically (the freeze function creates an audio track) obviously it works with the Cubasis instruments however, since they are both the same company maybe it will work. Try it as an experiment and let me know if it works. I hope this was helpful.

    • @eddiegarridobyrequest3990
      @eddiegarridobyrequest3990 4 роки тому +2

      Levinite 1 Yes you can. And also in 2 different ways. You could link your phrases into a song arrangement and play it like that or you can use the scenes . For example, scene one intro scene 2 verse, scene 3 chorus etc. This way if you have a player that ones to solo for a long time or you want to lengthen or shorten a song you can do so. The MODX has 1 gig of internal ram to hold midi notes and samples. I believe it also reads from a USB drive. An advantage of playing a song with all tracks in the sequencer is that you can mute tracks on the fly if sometimes you have other players with you. A disadvantage is that depending on the sounds you use in your tracks some patches are polishing hungry and you may experience drop notes. It all depends on the patches you use and how busy the song is. I do t normally use tracks I like to play everything live however, sometimes if it’s necessary I rather trigger any track or sequence with an iPod or iPhone, connect it to the input of the MODX this way you can have the tracks as busy as you want without compromising polyphony and it frees the keyboard completely to other uses. That’s what I do when I don’t have a drummer I program my drum loops and trigger them with an iPhone using Launchpad. I hope this was helpful.

    Quick question: at 9:25 when you add the 'Case 75 Medium' keyboard patch; why do two separate tracks appear on the sequencer both called 'Keys Electric Piano'? A similar thing happens at 10:56 when the 'Romance Strings' patch is added, three separate tracks appear, two called 'Str Ensemble' and one 'CPerc Mallet'. This has been happening on my Modx8 and I don't know why - surely only one track should appear when one patch is selected? Any help or explanation would be great, thanks!

    • @edgaba

      Hello, I’m order to beef up the patches Yamaha sometimes uses the same Patch on different channels with different pan values and maybe fx etc. the modx and montage were originally only for live performance and the sequencer was added later. One way to avoid that is to search for single sounds. When looking for patches under category you can filter out things, the filters are in top of the screen make sure is set to single and only patches that use one channel will appear. I know it’s confusing however, like I said these keyboards were originally design for live use only and they added the sequencer later. I hope this helps.

    Does the rythm automatically follow the chords, when it is save to a performance

    • @edgaba
      @edgaba  2 роки тому

      I’m not sure if I understand the question correctly. The rhythm meaning drums, will follow the song as you program it. However, I think you’re talking about a behavior like the once in a PSR series keyboards. If that is the case in theory yes it could but it’s not easy program it that way. The sequencer is built for doing patterns that will build a song. Each patter can have whatever you program I to it and then you can chain all the patterns together in any order you want. Verse, Chorus, Bridge, etc.
      To have ore programmed rhythms follow your chords you would be better off with a keyboard arranger such as the PSR Series and Korg also makes some nice one. I hope this helps.

    Hey man, I know it's been long since you did that video, but I came across it because I'm considering buying a MODX7 and I have several questions that I don't seem to find the answers to.
    1. How many user banks you can have in Live Sets and how many Live sets per bank?
    2. Can you rename the User banks itself? Let's say, if I play gigs with different bands, I may like to rename that bank to the name of the band that I play with, for the sake of making it more obvious and organising purposes.
    Thanks in advance!

    • @edgaba
      @edgaba  10 місяців тому +1

      In my understanding in the MODX you have 8 User banks
      Each user bank has 16 Live set pages and each page has 16 performances.
      In other words 256 user performances per Live Set pages
      And there is 8 user pages for a total of 2048 user performances
      Each performance can be named whatever you want like the title of a song.
      Navigating it is relatively easy. I play with 2 bands and also do a solo act.
      I use user 5 bank for a rock band and I have yet to fill one of the pages
      I use 15 performance sets out of the 256 available on that bank.
      For my solo act I’ve used 4 pages or 64 performances.
      To my knowledge you cannot name the pages however in my opinion there is no need since you can name the performances. And you could say Bank 4 is for band X and Bank 5 for band Y or something like it.
      So to recap how many user banks?
      8
      How many live sets per bank?
      256 (16 pages of 16 live sets per bank)
      I hope this helps.

    how do I record a live guitar in the pattern

    • @eddiegarridobyrequest3990
      @eddiegarridobyrequest3990 3 роки тому

      I’ve never done it on the MODX however, I believe that you import the sample or samples of your live guitar. That sample or samples get assigned to a trigger note (or notes) when you record your pattern you trigger that sample in the track. All the samples need to be saved as a program/Patch so that the MODX can find them every time and you will not need to load them every time. Once it’s a program the MODX will remember the location. I personally would record live instruments with a daw however I assume you want to have different patterns to play a song live with chorus verse etc. Experiment with the above posible solution and I hope this helps. :-)

      Well... make sure your sample of your rhythm guitar is exact. If you are recording it on a daw, make sure there is no fx trail at the end of it. The sample must be accurate. Also you can quantize the note that triggers the sample but make sure that the phrase and the sample share the same length and BPM tempo. All that has to line up. I hope this helps.

    • @edgaba
      @edgaba  3 роки тому

      Well... I personally prefer the MODX., Montage, Motif ir even a Nord. I do own a couple of Roland keyboards that can be loaded with Fantom sounds, as their line of keyboards can share sounds. My opinions on these keyboards are as follows. 1. If you play Pop music they are great not so much for jazz and easy listening. The patches mix well in a pop mix specially live but I found that when you need a more intimate sound set the Roland keyboards lack. 2. There manuals are badly written and even their website is so confusing at least for me. I bought a Roland FA for about a week and returned it. But again it depends of your need. I have a Roland Axe that uses fantom sounds and I love it but not for playing jazz, ballads it’s more for playing 80s 90s I also have a JDXI that also uses Fantom sounds and it’s a great little keyboard for making Grooves quickly I really love that one. It really depends on how you would use the Fantom. Here are a couple videos I did on the keyboards I mentioned ua-cam.com/video/Ap7vgMERh58/v-deo.html
      JDXI
      ua-cam.com/video/UM_AZEws-y8/v-deo.html
      Personally I would get a MODX and if you already have one and want a second keyboard and extra cash to spend get a Nord but I’ll repeat it all depends on what are you going to use it for.

      Except, these are flying off shelves. It's not perfect, but it has all the power of the Montage, every single waveform from the Motif Series, and MOXF series.. yes, some corners were cut, but in terms of actual amount of sounds, and quality of sounds, it beats almost every other digital synth. You'd need a Kronos, a Montage, or a Fantom to do better, and they are $1000's more. I can't think of a single synth in this class, that comes close. The FA and Krome.. are NOT half as capable. The FA is horrible to use, a tiny, tiny screen. I had one, as well as a MOTIF XS.. the older MOTIF was superior. The Krome?.. no way.. not in terms of sounds.. The interface can be just as confusing as the Yamaha (Had a Kronos..pure beast, but annoying sequencer and FX menu)

      Its really complicated to use... Even with OS update v.252 which basically makes the MODX a workstation after adding the linear sequencer... It can be very overwhelming and a bit intimidating, because Yamaha have not created any real tutorial manuals to work with, even the online Parameter guide Pdfs dont explain anything at all... I was shocked with Yamaha about that, especially after paying £1100 (i bought the 88 note version)... It appears, like Roland.. they think everybody who composes music only creates 4 or 8 measure songs and either uses a DAW or wants an ancient 70s drum machine type step sequencer onboard.... at least Yamaha, like Korg came to their senses and updated the sequencer, but they provided no manuals or tutorials
