I've learned a lot about my MODX through trial and error but whenever I run across an informative video like this one, I am very thankful. Great info !!!
So grateful for your videos and your laid back, candid, and transparent style. Really helpful to me in a sea of overwhelming new concepts related to my modx8! Thank you!
Just got a MODX6 and your video was so understandable. I still have to figure out how to make assignments to the superknob, but now I can do so much else! This will help me for playing live, my primary interest. Thanks a bunch.
At 6:25 the way you move the parts over is the same “Exchange” method you used for the acoustic piano for Part 1 Part 2, but you have to do it by first selecting the existing Part (5 or 6).
Thank you, Tony. I bought MODx 2 years ago but never could do much. I couldn't figure out how to set up my foot pedal. I've also subscribed to your youtube channel and learning a lot from it there. Thanks again
Hi tony thanks for sharing this vdo. So I have some question when you turn off EXP switch on the piano track, Is the fader no.1 still work to control piano volume ? 10:45
I haven't programmed the modx in a while but i remember being very frustrated trying to get faders and foot pedals to operate the way it seems like they should. All i can say is - experiment and - good luck!
I have the modx6, and I want to learn how to layer sounds together, and learn how to split the modx6 with the bass in the left hand, and how to turn the reverb level up or down on a sound, and I thank you very much, and I like what you are teaching me in this video now, and keep up the good work
I would love to have a copy of your sounds for the Modx. I can not for the life of me figure out this beast of a machine. Your sounds are fantastic by the way.
Good video. I wish the touch screen was a little more responsive or accurate i should say. Seems like i have to touch to the right a little bit on the screen of where i actually intend to. Or maybe it's just me.
Hello, how are you? Very good video. I wanted to tell you that I have a modx plus 8 and I notice that the piano sounds are a bit muted, but when you play the demos with the button that gives you a small sample, they sound very good. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Do I have to edit each preset? I have a P250, which is identical to the CP300, and out of the box, it sounds incredible. What could it be? Thank you. Greetings from Argentina! To upload the video to UA-cam, did you pass the keyboard's output sound through a sound card and then to the computer/UA-cam?
The demo is probably high velocity. If you have a light touch you may want to adjust the keyboard sensitivity. I dont like the csx piano sound - there are others in there that are better/brighter.
Tony - this is so good. Also u hv a great voice. I am a new user of this keyboard. Can u help me with a couple things pls. I tried the same things you did in this video, but my pad sound is overpowering the piano...how do I change tht to make piano sound higher? Also, how do u connect the output to speakers? Currently I only hv one quarter inch going out to a keyboard amp...is there a better way to connect to get sounds of your quality? Any help is appreciated. Also - where can I get your patches? Thanks a lot...
Thank you, great video. Did you notice however, that at 8:12, when you had arranged all parts as parts 1-4 the SSS symbol came up to show that this performance supports "seamless sound switch" now? So it's not just "for convenience". You did it intuitively right. 🙂
Hi Tony, Hope your well . I've just bought a modx and cant get a proper fat brass sound would you have one to share please. Thanks for your tutorial videos fantastic.
@@TonyWinston hi just bought a modx7, many thanks for the video tutorials, find them great, did you say them patches that you made are available to download? thanks,
Can I use the MODX as a controller too....I have so many good sounds from Native Instruments that I tend to prefer over any sounds coming from Yamaha...
what should i do to save a live set on the keyboard permanently? coz whenever i try to store them they seem to be saved but they disappear when i turn off and on the keyboard.
question for ex srr yamaha modx there are some who take up pieces known as toto for example the sounds his very close question do they have software if so which thank you
Hi, nice video, thanks. What's the E-Piano you use within the Brandy-Sound? Could'nt figure that out... Sounds nice, as most of the E-Piano-patches sound pretty agresive/hard to me. Greetings from Germany, Flo
I agree with the electric piano being too aggressive. I will address this in the next video and share my patches. Hopefully tomorrow or Friday at the latest
I bought the MODX8 and can't figure out how to make my hammond xkp midi bass pedal work with it.. do you know how to hook them together? any help would be nice thanks
Yes, however sometimes it won't work depending on how the expression pedal is programmed. On some of my patches like piano + strings where I have the pedal controlling string volume only, the fader won't work on the piano - have to reach for the master volume knob instead.
@@TonyWinston Hi Toni, that's wery friendley. I bought a Yamaha MODX7 yesterday. It would be very nice to get this out standing sounds.. Allthough i will say you make a very good job in your tutorial. I think i understand your programming tips. Normaly i understand very less from tutorials. Greatings Klaus
Hi, how can i permanently upload a loop or style onto modx via USB. Have tried this and i can actually play the beats when the USB is connected but i want the style to be permanently stored on the keyboard? Thanks
Actually with the new update a more efficient way would be to turn on KBD control in mixing and turn it off in the scene so you're not using up the memory, muting the sound still sends signal to the board as well as turning down the volume. Additionally two scenes might not even be necessary just apply velocity to those key ranges and activate with a harder press, so many ways to do this but good video none the less.
You sing better than Bruce.you sing you don’t tang and whine. I like your voice singing quality. Keep singing. Enjoy your commentary on how to set up the performances.
Hey thanks man. And for the record, Bruce does not have a great voice. You're a better singer. He just has gruff in his voice which can convey a feeling/passion. So if that's great singing to you, then just yell a little bit. Lol.

Best instructional video on the montage ive seen yet. Thank you so much. This is hard to come by

Thanks for the tips. Also, you have a beautiful voice!
GREAT INFO thank you!
Thanks so much! you explained in terms a beginner like me on the MODX8 can understand!! thanks again!
Thanks, very helpful and inspiring me to put in more work to get my own sounds. I really like the keyboard shortcuts, oh shift yes!
You play lovely bro. I like the way you play some of those good old school sounds. I got the Modx 61 key but I'm gonna traid it out for the 88 keys.
You are amazing!
Love the singing in between learning such great patches really nice voice too🤩🤩🥳

Thank you for the video Tony, I'm still considering between the modx or Korg krome. How is the keybed?
It's average. A heavier more expensive instrument will usually be better. I've never played the Korg.

Hi Tony... have you figured out how to get the MoDX that has several slots making up one sound to receive all those slots on one MIDI channel?
Let me know when you figure that out. Idk, I hope there's a way.

what is the difference between saving to performance and to live set?
i heard earlier in this video that u can control part volumes during live perf using the sliders?
like, slider1 is piano, 2 is pad, 3 is ep, 4 is org?
Yes, however sometimes it won't work depending on how the expression pedal is programmed. On some of my patches like piano + strings where I have the pedal controlling string volume only, the fader won't work on the piano - have to reach for the master volume knob instead.

Isnt there any way to switch polarity on the sustain pedal on a global level?

Sorry, I haven't dug into that yet.
In case you find the solution, pls kindly let me know

you could just mute the bell instead of moving the volume.. or use keyboard control so it wont play
On the MODX scenes might be easier to manage. I agree on the Montage with dedicated mute controls, that would work pretty well.
Actually with the new update a more efficient way would be to turn on KBD control in mixing and turn it off in the scene so you're not using up the memory, muting the sound still sends signal to the board as well as turning down the volume. Good funny review...Yamaha will never be userfriendly right?😉
Side note to get more reverb you don't need to go into the edit window just click the sound and use the reverb nob to turn up reverb.
@@holygeneration7 welcome.
How to set different tones in five different octaves. If you say a little, sir, I will be fine.
Boot up time.. oh yawn.. MEASURE IT - it takes 18 seconds!!
Yamaha sound design sucks in my opinion.
