    Do you guys throw an indicator on the bar to check for potential run out? Or just measure the main surface after cutting?

    After lineboring how do you find the right bearings to fit?

    Good video, but question... why did you not show the set up of putting the bore tool inside the case before cutting? Thanks!

    I have a stock 1600 vw bug and when I do a line bore on it do i have to buy bigger bearings for it

      @JWClassicVW 6 років тому +1

      yes depending on the amount of material removed you'll need to but oversized bearings... for examples .20 bearings if .20 was removed from the case.

      The crankshaft is ground in steps of 0.25mm (0.01") undersize but the case is bored in steps of 0.50mm (0.02") oversize.

    Hi, how much is the line bore kit?

    I'm curious (I've also never rebuilt an air-cooled motor, so bear with me). You referenced the importance of knowing the torque values the customer intended using for the case. Why would someone use anything other than the factory spec torque values when assembling the case halves?

    • @VintageVolks

      We don't use anything but what the factory recommends. There are folks who like to torque their cases extra tight though. We do not recommend it and I probably should have said that in the video, but if you do and you don't tell your machine shop when they bore the case, you will not have the correct squish or even round bearing bores when you are done building your motor.

    Friend, can you say me where have one of this to buy?

      This setup was shop built. I have seen pictures of other bars like it on The Samba, but they don't go up for sale very often. Sorry.

    hi,
    Im new to building engines but im building one anyways. I was told when i bought my 1500cc vw single relief case that it needed to be line bored. My question is, once you line bore the case, how to you make up for the extra space that exists now due to the boring? do you see what im asking? do i have to make up the small amount of extra room thats created in the process of line boring?

    I have mixed feelings about align boring a VW case.

    • @VintageVolks

      Done right on a later (AS41) case, I have no issues with align boring a case. Even for a performance motor, at least to a point. Once it has been done once, the case has enough use, I would not build a big motor out of it. The earlier cases had a "heat memory" issue, so I don't like to use them at all.
