Always building momentum throughout the song, unbelievable groove and pocket, timing like a metronome, creative fills... Bobby J. is the complete package.
So much talent and very abstract conception from progressive drum. Please stay playing progressive rock Bobby do not lose your talent with Sebastian. I am very happy to see this videos. Thanks
I love Fate Warning. Always been one of my favorites, and now probably my favorite. Bobby is such a stud. He really adds to this band. Phenomenal drummer!
oh my god. it's been ages since I watched bobby! Not gonna lie, before youtube age we were passing spastic ink drum videos to each other through low speed connection and CDs :)
STP Core // Tool Undertow // Soundgarden Badmotorfinger. I'll listen to anything with Bobby Jarzombek, sick drummer and he's really pushing the music along here. Kudos to the dudes of Fates Warning.
Honestly, as good as Mangini is, I think Bobby kicks him down a notch. All bullshit aside, it's the tastefulness of his fills and chops that raises my hairs. VERY compelling drummer. You just want to keep watching to see what he does next.
MM is overrated, and former drumprofessor of berklee. He can play, sure.. but you don't hear style/emotion/soul, the only thing i hear is mathemathics and polyrytms and such... It's very outstanding of course but his drumming don't live if you get my drift. BJ will eat him on that subjects, how fast MM is it don't matter to me. MM is math and perfection, Bobby is metalmonster with incredible approach i never ever heard of a drummer.
@@gsxracer1977 Bobby Jarzombek is a drumming inventor. The way he pulls off drumming is simply unique and unseen . So this is how an inventor looks alike. Respect him and support him.
@@CyberOrca his talent and creativity would have been totally wasted with DT! Absolutely the right choice to turn them down. Especially as they already knew from the start who they want.
Fresh and compelling. The biggest compliment I can give a drummer, is to say they are "inspirational". He makes me want to be better and practice much, much more.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I've been listening to this record for more than 1 year now, thinking how in the hell he plays double bass while playing closed hi-hat notes at the same time while I knew the hi hat was open... I thought he was holding it with his hand but there's so much stuff going on I thought it was not possible.... Well -- YOU MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE LOOK EASY.... You for sure should produce more instructional videos man... Your double bass stuff and creativity on these drum parts is unparalleled. Keep those videos coming!!... Cheers!
Thank Bobby for putting out your "Performance & Technique" DVD ! ! ! I learned and continue to get so much from the DVD as I'm an open-handed player myself!!!! The lessons really expanded my drumming-mind and technique!!! BTW, "School" was my favorite song from the DVD!!!!
I already know what music my wife have to buy me on my birthday. That music is conscious and mature, everything is very well balanced. Thanks very much. ( I hope so it will be possible to buy it in my country ) Greetings from Poland
Love watching you recording as you just breeze through the songs plus your playing is so precise clean! Great work Bobby! Much respect from the other side of the Atlantic \m/
Are you all kidding me? This is the most badass s*** on Earth ! See ya in Hartford with Fates, Bobby ! Thanks for all the great videos you put out. You are a great inspiration to me !
Thanks for putting more of these up. Watching you play makes me have goosebumps. It would be lovely to see the rest of the tunes from DIADL up here, especially And Yet It Moves & O Chloroform. Thanks!
9:12 It was beautiful. Робототе-е-ехника! Cool accenting, playing together with guitars (good emphasize of riffs), loves cymbals and hats. Perfect! But, actually, I heard more impressed stuff from you, for example in your brother's project. And it was unbelieveble and even weird from start, hard music performance to get it from first listen. I think, as professional you did amazing balanced work, as good and suitable for Fates Warning's music as main members wanted from you. I feel so many satisfaction and joy from watching your videos. I wish you will upload some videos more often.
Pedro Zinn Hensel Nunes you should know by now, but it was Spastic Inc if I recall correctly. Or it was Blotted Science. No master which, as a drummer or music Connaisseur you should know both and his genius guitar brother Ron.
I don't know if you'll read this comment but I want to say I really love your work with Riot, your drumming is a big part of why those records are as great as they are
Good shit. Darkness in a Different like surprised the hell out of me. I thought Fates Warning had one foot in the grave, then BAM! gives me the middle finger with that album.
Dear Bobby, I don't know why you decided to pass the offer by Dream Theater but one thing I know: You would be PERFECT for them. You're extremely Powerful, Technical and prepared, you're an inspiration for all drummers!
He mentioned in a podcast that he was only offered the chance to audition, same as the other guys. He would have had to perfectly memorize all the songs they wanted, and I think he mentioned that he was in the middle of touring when they asked him, so he couldn't make it work. I wish he had, though. As awesome as Mangini is, Bobby would have been SUCH a better fit.
@Simone, Would have been such a waste of his creativity. While staying an independent artist who plays for whoever he wants, joining DT he would have been stuck to the band and also to their limited musical approach. He never would have fitted them, 1. he has a different view on music (he's not that kind of showman they need), 2. he would have been extremely limited, mostly of the drumtracks he would not have been allowed to write himself.
Bobby (or anybody else) can explain the little move at about 11:30 of the video where you mute the hi-hat with your hand for a couple of beats? Never seen anybody do that before--what was the purpose??
Adam, The reason I muted the hi-hat with my left hand was because I wanted the hi-hat to stay closed when I moved my left foot from the hi-hat pedal to the left kick pedal. I came up with the bass drum pattern that I wanted to play first, which required me to move my left foot from the hi-hat pedal to the left kick pedal. Then when I practiced this pattern, there way no way to play it without the hi-hat cymbal coming up and splashing. I didn't want that, so somehow I figured out that I could use my left hand to mute the hi-hats for a couple beats. Yeah, it's a little weird but it worked. Ha!
Wow Bobby; that was very inventive. I'm thinking most would've just let it splash quickly. And thanks for responding! I just got turned onto your drumming with the Arch/Matheos record, which became my most listened to record of that year, even with the new Dream Theater debut that year with Mike Mangini. And whaddya know, here in 2016, the new Fates album is far and away my album of the year (I really liked Darkness in a Different Light as well). And to be honest, both are because of your fantastic drumming on those records. Powerful and creative---lots of guys can do power and lots of guys can make creative drum parts, but not many can do both!
your a freaking maniac I sit in the dark trying to figure out how your doing shit on drums and lo and behold a lefty playing right handed drums LOL I love everything about your set up dude everything....just wondering if you have custom pedals and what kind?
Hey Bobby, any chance you've got similar recordings of the Theories of Flight sessions, like you've done with Sympathetic Resonance and Darkness In A Different Light?
I love that he's playing open-handed. When you think about it, crossing your hands doesn't really make sense. Great playing!!🔥
Big agree. Neither does traditional grip for 99.9% of players.
Any good drummer is open handed, theres no question here. Also this observation is in the obvious category
Always building momentum throughout the song, unbelievable groove and pocket, timing like a metronome, creative fills... Bobby J. is the complete package.
I know. A-Mazing! I'm polishing my chops to get half as good as this guy. Practice, practice, practice!
i love how everything is writing on sheet music, shows how knowledged of a drummer he is.
That's what I thought.. a formally educated musician..
Knowledgeable. And Bobby is just so amazingly good.
So much talent and very abstract conception from progressive drum. Please stay playing progressive rock Bobby do not lose your talent with Sebastian. I am very happy to see this videos. Thanks
Bobby is absolutely so amazing. Bobby is so talented and I always love to see him beat those drums!🥁❤️
Dude, you are from another planet.

Amen. Mark Zonder's also incredibly inventive and adds elegance to the drumming performance. Jim Matheos always finds great musicians to work with
he is way better than MM, and best fit replacement for portnoy ....
@@CyberOrca his talent and creativity would have been totally wasted with DT! Absolutely the right choice to turn them down. Especially as they already knew from the start who they want.
I have seen FATES 4 times with Mark Zonder, and Mark is amazing. Bobby could not be more perfect for this band, and he will leave his mark for sure.
Jarzombek is open handed and Zonder play traditional geip They are both great drummers.

Bobby, John Macaluso and Dennis Chambers... too 3 of my favorite drummers!

If Glenn Fricker watches this video he will have a stroke because of how close hi-hat is to snare:D
Great playing!

not one of my favourite fates tunes but the drumming is once again "exquisite" !
BEAST! Love this guy! Fuck yeah.
I can't stop watching this. I at least managed to play the firtst song though. Second one is impossible...
Awesome Drummer
man this is my shit! so dope,so technical ,really bad-ass!
great shit :) love this all time long !! Bobby i love you hehe if you know what i mean... great reading tabs..
I love the way Bobby plays, you should listen to Travis Orbin too, it's another progressive incredible metal player! :)
Nice work. Met you in Houston a few months back. Another lefty on a right handed drumset.....lol
If I remember he is not lefty. He told in some video that he trained open handed technique specially (it was his goal for more convenient).
KeeNchiK
Exactly. In his words, transitioning to open-handed allowed "more dynamic possibilities on the kit"
Sick !!Whats your snare set up here please Bobby ?
bobby what hats of paiste are those...? i will buy them..
love your drumming man
I AM
I had no idea Jeff Bridges played drums!
