    Haven't tried this one, but would love to. Too high in my area.
    I love having a cigar with the 12, for sure. With a smoke, I find it very orangey-sweet.

      ...for the most part ;-) Sometimes we suffer from a little "group think", but I personally enjoy the experience of exploring a scotch with others as sometimes I get stuck on a smell or a taste and I just can't make it...then someone says one thing and BAM the door opens and I come up with so much more! Thanks for watching and commenting! ~Mark

    Congratulations on 2k Subs guys, I liked this Dalmore but the only issue was the price as here in the UK its price at one point went up to £100 and for me i'd jump straight to the King Alexander III over this in price but its a good at around £80, Slainte Gents!

    Been waiting for the cigars for a long time gentleman! I personally love all of Crowned Heads cigars but I also enjoy Drew Estate and especially Padron. I try to keep an updated spreadsheet of cigars I try and what I pair them with. 99.9% of the time, it is Scotch. Keep up the good work!

      "Dullbore" killed me. :D Pretty much describes my experience with the 12yo.
      Already poured out my rant on premium NAS in your video, so not this time.
      This video didn't convince me much that it is worth the price (good, but so are others...).

      Dulbore:) I love it.....I have yet to try a Dalmore that was even close to being good. When I first had the 12, I hated it so much that I almost poured it down the drain. I restrained myself because at the very least I needed to review it on my channel to let people know how unimpressive it is:) It literally took 9 months in the bottle with tons of aeration before I could even palate it. I hear the Dalmore King Alexander is amazing though. I think the dummies reviewed it and sung it's praises. I think I will wait for someone to share a dram with my from their bottle, or I see it at the bar before I pull the trigger on that bottle.

      Crazy I thought you were my guy Sal Capaccio from Buffalo 😅
      I was about to say "Sal I didn't know you drink scotch?!?!"
      Good to know... been tempted to buy this bottle... it's $180 here around Philly. I'm like for $40 more dollars i can get The Dalmore 18. I might wait & get this duty free when i go on vacation later this year 😅
      Have you tried the 18yr yet?? I'm a huge Dalmore fan...love the 12 & 15 years. Someone told me they would put the Cigar Malt up against The Macallan 18yr... 😯 ... would you agree?? If so, i might run out & buy this asap 😄😄😄

    Yes, Dalmore does use coloring which is something Scotch critics point out about many whiskies from Scotland. But lets be honest, most whiskies technically use a "coloring agent". American Bourbon doesn't have color when it goes into the barrel. It picks it up from the charred barrels used during the ageing process. You could say that Bourbon gets its color more honestly, but it's still an artificial coloring. If the whisky tastes good, I don't care where its color comes from.

  • @welshtoro3256
    @welshtoro3256 6 років тому +8

    "It's not the cheapest on the shelf." That's because Dalmore are the biggest rip off in the whisky business. They even outdo Macallan. I just don't why you guys in the States like this stuff. 'Cigar Malt' - That tells you everything about who this is pitched at. A $125 NAS bottle (chill filtered and coloured too no doubt) but you can quaff it with your fat cigar (I'm thinking Pink Floyd now). Do you honestly believe this tastes better with a cigar? Seriously, how many better bottles of whisky are there for the money. Glad you reviewed this though lads. Very enjoyable review as always. Cheers. WT

    Awesome review guys. Unfortunately, I just keep getting disappointed with Dalmore. The 12 and 15 were almost gross at first...eventually they got better with time but they were still not something that I ever got excited to reach for. I remember you guys reviewing the Dalmore King Alexander and saying that it was amazing. It is so expensive though....... and I am afraid to pull the trigger on a distillery that I have borderline hated every whisky that I have tried in their core range. I am not sure if I have ever asked or heard you guys say how you all met. Did you guys all grow up together, go to college together? It is pretty amazing that you guys are able to put out such a good show as consistently as you do with four people's schedules. Cheers guys!

      Not going to lie, some weeks are really a stretch. We all live on the same street though so that helps. I live across the street from Andrew, and Drew and Mark live a couple of house down in either direction. We all started out just drinking together on Thursday and throwing some darts. It sort of evolved into what we do now. It’s been a fun journey so far. If you are ever in Indianapolis, stop by the bar. We always have room for more.

    Actually, there has been a scientific study about how adding water to the whisky works (iirc it was focused peated whisky). Unfortunately, I can't manage to find it back right now.
    The did some statistical simulations of molecular motions. Bottom line, they found that certain compounds (in this case the phenols from the peat smoke) end up on the surface making them more accessible both to smell and taste. Apparently, it isn't so much a mater of dilution, but a lot is just due to the water disturbing the mixture of water, alcohol and the dissolved compounds.
    I'll try to find it back, was quite interesting (no light reading though ...).

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  6 років тому

      I think I read the study you're referring too. It's great info....if I remember right it was a bit lengthy and easily loses some of the audience, but the main points are worth hearing! ~Mark

      Found it back:
      www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-06423-5
      Well, it is a "proper" scientific article, so not necessarily (no offence!) for the general audience. I know many physicists and chemists that enjoy whisky though, so people did read it. :D

    It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and dislike Dalmore products - especially because of the excessive colorant which gives the whisky an unnatural red glow - but I have to say that I've enjoyed the 15 year, the Cigar Malt, and the King Alexander.

    If have only had the Dalmore 12 but was not impressed. I always think these whiskies are over-priced for what you get. I really feel the Cigar Malt is a marketing scam for lower quality whisky NAS to capitalize on Whisky shortages. I am glad you enjoyed it, but for $125 for a NAS it better be super good at that price.

      Dalmore gets beat up bad about coloring... but that's a personal argument that I personally don't care to have.....my take is what's it taste like, period! That doesn't mean I don't look at the color of a whisky, but I'm not going to pour something out because it doesn't say "natural color" on the bottle....hahah! ~Mark
