Your a good man Erik, taking a hit for the team like this.
I'm sure it's delicious and I'm sure the current owners wake up in the middle of the night and wonder why people choose their competition when they buy a gift bottle. The presentation and the price should make this (or other offerings) the perfect gift for any occasion.
As far as drinking it? I am more than happy to sip it with your mouth and your wallet.
I can't buy one because the other integrity bottles would bully it and push it off the shelf when I turn my back.

You're my benchmarking. You're trustful. 25 years collecting and drinking single malt scotch whisky and everyday we learn something. And a lot from you.🥃

Wow, that is a high compliment. Thank you! I don't take offers for "free" bottles (I get offers quote often) from distilleries, I don't do paid advertisements or promotions, I'm not concerned with the number of subscribers and I no longer have Patreons so I am not indebted to anyone. That leaves me free to say what I truly believe about a whisky.

Good work and walk through of Dalmore 12. It is a good basic Scotch and I recently dug out my bottle and yup you are spot on. I am not one for the haters as there is and should be a scotch everyone enjoys. I have tasted scotches from all regions of Scotland, and I enjoy Ardbeg An Oa, which many dislike. I appreciate Jura 12, to Bruichladdich 12 non-peated, and so on. I think when you enjoy learning, which you encourage us to do, makes the journey through scotch so interesting. Yes there are whiskey's I do not care for, and others I wish I had a large enough bank account to buy. Like what you drink, drink it as you like.

My favorite Dalmore is Cigar Malt 44%, 14yr at 43% and the sherry cask select 12yr at 43%. The King Alexander Is nice but I feel I would of enjoy it more at the beginning of my journey. The 15yr at 40% was my first sipping whisky years ago and made me fall in love with the brand. Cheers

Good review; just got me a bottle yesterday; I’m a fairly new whiskey drinker so I’m still learning in the notes of a good whiskey. Cheers!

    Another great review
I really enjoy the Dalmore 12 year. Always have one open and a back up. Not a go to bottle just a damn enjoyable pour. I have 4 different Dalmores.
I find guest who are newer to Scotch like the 12yr a lot.
I like it when I al just relaxing with a book or watching a game.
Do I wish they didn’t use e150 or chill filtration, yes but bottom line the juice is what matters and it is solid and they seem to be a pretty successful distillery

I totally agree, this one could be so much better🤔
Dalmore can make really good whisky, I had a OMC bottling some years ago, 19yo, 50%abv, NCF and natural colour....and that one was lovely♥️

Glad I found this review. I just bought a bottle for the first time after years of hearing how good it was. As with all things the price has gone up but it just happened to be on sale.
I was so underwhelmed with it when I opened it. Honestly I didn't even look at the abv, but thought to my self this has to be 80 proof. It's just so thin and brittle. The mouth feel, depth, and gone-in-a-flash lips to finish tasting are frankly, boring. I was certain there we something wrong with me after so much hype on the positive side. Thinking maybe I need to shelf it and come back in a few months after it breathes.
I guess not. It seems Dalmore has bastardized what was once a good scotch? I'm assuming the older blue label 12 yo?
Anyway, I feel kind of cheated. This was a gift to myself. There are quite a few bottles I drink regularly at $20 less per that shame this blend.
Lowered the abv and raised the shelf price into the $70+ range...No Way. One or the other but not both. Thats just greedy.

It reminds me of the Blanton’s of scotch. Not bad not great easy to drink.

It's funny you mentioned "wet casks" because it's something I've thought about whenever I see a suspiciously dark colored sherry finished/matured whisky. It's not something you hear discussions about either which I think is strange, because if the casks really are wet then you're not really getting an "integrity malt" in my opinion, but rather a sherry-whisky-liqueur.

I agree 100%. Oddly, it isn't a topic covered by the SWA 2009 regulation.

Hi Erik, I had not tried the 12, but I have a bottle of the 15, and despite not being a whisky that has surprised me, I wouldn't say that has disappointed me, I find it sweet, rich, and even a bit "funk", the best for me is the nose, where it promises more than it delivers on the palate, and although it feels slightly creamy, its development is short, clearly suffers from the low ABV and chill filtration. I think if it had a integrity bottling it could be an good example of a sherry cask forward whisky.
BTW any thoughts about the Valour, are justified 94US$? 🤔

    Hi Erik
I got out my bottle of dalmore 12year old that I haven't touched in several years, and drank along with you, its still a whiskey I don't care for, I bought 3 bottles of different dalmore's when I got started with dalmore, I even bought a bottle of king Alexander lll, because I watched scotch 4 Dummies review, and they gave it a 4 out of 4 score, sadly I gave an almost full bottle away to a couple of friends, I did not like it, and I would never buy another bottle of dalmore again, its just sad what they do to their whiskey, I only drink high abv whiskeys nowadays, just so much more taste in the bottles, I liked your reviews as always, and I love where you take us scotch drinkers, huge fan of your channel, cheers sir and keep the great reviews coming !!!

I'm curious about what kind of glass you used. it's not a Glencairn?

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  Рік тому +1

Glencairn also produces larger size glasses. Sometimes they are referred to as "Canadian Glencairn". They are about $30 each on Amazon.

You would think someone at Dalmore would say: “We are constantly getting lambasted for 40% ABV, chill filtering, coloring. Let’s offer it as a 46% uncolored non chill filtered special release and see what happens. “. But no, they choose to keep doubling down on dumb. Kind of infuriating

    Typical Dalmore
ABV too low and chill filtered
At least this one isn’t a crazy price .
I Bought a King Alex a while back to see what the fuss / price was about 🙈
IMO ..Just not good enough for the money …like most Dalmore’s
    Great channel 👍

This is not a bad whisky but it is pretty boring. There is nothing interesting about the flavors and experience to make it worth a regular spot on my shelf. Just bump the proof and stop chill filtering. As it stands, this is an overpriced whisky in a pretty bottle that just falls flat on the palate. The 12 Sherry Cask, 14, and Cigar Malt are much better if you really want Dalmore.

  • @JazznRealHipHop
    @JazznRealHipHop Рік тому +1

This. All of this. I really wanna love this distillery but everything you said is exactly spot on. Slightly higher ABV, quit adding color and chill filtering and it would be a must-buy. Sadly not the case. My last bottle I gave away as a wedding gift.

You can taste its potential which makes it sad that they are cutting themselves short.
