    One of my favs, in my opinion the Ardbeg 10 has one of the best quality/price ratios. I've got one of those boxes as well but I had to have mine shipped from the UK. FYI, Ardbeg Disillery has a very nice cafe so if you visit you'll want to eat lunch after your tour.

      Agree completely! I love Talisker and Lagavulin, but this is almost as good as those bottles, if not better, for a much more reasonable price. And yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “what about Laphroaig?” But to me, compared to this, I think Laphroaig smells and tastes like gasoline.

      Just one guy's non-expert subjective opinion: i cannot imagine getting a better whisky for the price than the Ardbeg 10. In fact, it's hard to find a more expensive whisky that is as good as Ardbeg 10. This is the whisky that converted me from bourbon to scotch.

    Ardgeg 10 was my first Islay scotch and all i got was burring rubber and band aids. After i let it sit for a couple of months the harsh notes were more subdued and I got all of what Shawn was talking about. Now I love Islay Scotch (except Laphroaig lol).

    Whether Ardbeg is right for starting drinkers is a very interesting question. For most people, I'd certainly agree, but just last week I introduced someone to scotch for the first time (they'd had other whiskeys in the past). First glass was Uigeadail. And they absolutely loved it. But, this was someone that was at a brew-pub earlier in the day, never having been to that pub, and ordered the Habanero Porter. For THAT kind of drinker, the heavy Islays are a great choice.

    I've been collecting A10 for about 12 years. I think it had some older juice in it from the mothball days and I jump back and forth from my '06 to '17 or whichever just to mix it up. It has changed but today's releases are every bit as powerful.

    Funny story. While on my first field trining exercise on the army I finally got around to drinking coffee regularly just so I could stay awake and week warm. The coffee was awful, but since that is my baseline, I can enjoy pretty much any coffee afterwards. A similar thing happened when I tried scotch for the first time. I had traded a bottle of bourbon for Ardbeg 10 from a friend of mine. This was my first scotch and I loved it so much I got another bottle for Christmas the following month. Now scotch is my go to hard beverage of choice since I'm not intimidated by the briny peat flavor.

    When advising the newbie crowd gazing at the Ardbeg bottles, would you suggest An Oa or just dive right into this? I keep checking reviews and everyone dogs an oa as too easy drinking but 10 is too strong to dip toe into Islays. Lol. Just trying to hone in on the message if 10 is good, an oa is the better option for me, or another distillery altogether. Slàinte mhath!

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  3 роки тому

      Everyone comes at it differently. Some people seem to need to get used to peat gradually while others jump right in from the start. I think if the 10 is too bold, start with An Oh and keep trying others. You will find out what you like and what you don’t

    I will buy Lagavulin 9 game of thrones hands down its going right now for 55, that Ardbeg is 60, Lagavulin9 is way way better peated perfectly balanced, and the 11 years old is perfection , Ardbeg is awesome but I think score of 3.5 or 4 is Lagavulin 9 or even the 8 years old I would buy before the Ardbeg

  • @leroyprice3168
    @leroyprice3168 5 років тому

    The 10 is $51 to $55 between NJ and PA. But with that said it is good but I think I prefer the taste of Caol Ila or Lagavulin. I can get the Caol Ila 12 for $65 or so. It would be interesting to have the Ardbeg at 12 years to compare to other 12 year Olds. Just wondering if the additional 2 years in the barrel would make a difference. LeRoy

    Hey fellas, So I have a question, Me & my boys have been on this scotch journey for 5 years now, we've definitely crawled (per Shawn's comment 😅). We've had Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Dalmore, Glen Grant, Chivas Regal, Macallan 12's, 15's, & two 18's (Glenlivet & Chivas)... We've recently had our 1st Islay The Bunnahabhain 18yr... & IT BLEW US AWAY! Literally our best scotch we done had thus far!!!
    My question is (& Anyone feel free to answer as well)... being that we've had The Bunnahabhain 18, do you think we should dive into Ardbeg 10 ???
    We're really on our Sherry Bomb kick right now... but The Bunnahabhain 18 open our minds up big time!
    I want to get a bottle of Ardbeg but I'm terrified that it's going to punch me in the face.
    Unless all Islay's flavor profile is like the Bunnahabhain 18???
    Thanks in Advance and I love this journey. Your show is the best! If I'm ever in Indianapolis, I will definitely love to have a few drams with you boys. Cheers 🥃😎👍🏾

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Philly. The Bunna 18 is an amazing bottle but it's going to be big swing going to and Ardbeg 10, Ugi or even Cory. That being said, the Ardbeg 10 is a great entry level into a true Islay expression.
      It won't punch you in the face like you would expect from the Islay fear-factor, but it will definitely give you something to appreciate from that region. Plus, it's not an expensive bottle so you won't feel bad if it's too much at first. Like I always say on scotch journeys, all roads lead to Islay eventually. -Drew

    Quite high rating for the 10 yo. I would probably give it a rating of 2. As I find it to simple and a bit narrow in taste. Now Uigeadail is better for me or even the Laphroaig 10 yo. but then I love medicinal peat :) In Sweden there is also a big price difference. 499 SEK for the Ardbeg while the Laphroaig costs 439SEK,
