    Proving once again, that while there is a rating system involved, the conversation is what it's all about. I love the fact that when you compare the original and the re-review, the general feeling hasn't changed (even if the glasses have)! Well done guys! Can't wait to get around to trying this. Cheers!

    I get into arguments with scotch snobs all the time over this bottle. It’s all about how good the juice is in the glass, not the numbers on the bottle or lack there of. It’s a unique bottle and one of the most complex scotches out there. And it’s amazing that this was tasted by y’all towards the beginning of your journey and even after your palettes maturing it still amazes you...shows just how wonderful of a work this bottle is. Cheers fellas.

    • @steveno7058

      Sad to say the juice isn’t good for $300. So thin and barely any finish. Mouth feel is weak and light. Flavors are weak and watered down. This is the Blue Label of Single malts. Made for casual whiskey drinkers who value ‘smooth’ more than anything else.

      Steven Owens No, you can disagree and still have an opinion that’s of value. You just come off like a troll. It’s like you know nothing about this bottle, calling it the JW blue of single malts? Really? That’s a troll comment or a very ignorant one.

It's definitely one of the fruitiest whiskies I‘ve ever had. I get so much dark fruits and plums and it has a great sweet and slightly dry finish! Great stuff, very well deserved 4 out of 4!

    I count myself as a bit of a snob, but I took a chance on this a couple of years ago, and it is a very fine whisky. It's just incredibly well balanced and quite distinctive.
    I do think you're paying for that (about £150 per bottle), and personally I'd probably go for the Glendronach 21 or Glengoyne 21 in terms of better value for money, but I did much prefer it to say the Glenmorangie Signet, which I found too smooth and lacking in character.

    its almost refreshing to hear someone speak highly of dalmore these days. ive been a hater for a long time of the wannabe macallan and gave the whole range a wide berth but after this i really need some king eck in my life. at that price its always going to be a try before i buy and it would almost have to cure coronavirus for me to pull the trigger. it would nuke my scotch budget for at least 3 months.

    Here in Holland it costs "only" 160 euro's...….would I buy it??…..NO!!…...Not only because of the price, but also because of all the sensations you mentioned this one has I also experienced with a 9 year old Deanston Bordeaux red wine cask, which has an age statement of 9 years, non-chillfiltered, natural colour and is cask-strength…..I had that one for 70 euro's...….sometimes there are whiskies that are equally good for a lot less money. One of the reasons that I am a member of a whiskyclub, gives me the oppertunity to taste and compare more expensive whiskies with cheaper ones, and you guys will know that as well, a lot of the cheaper ones kick ass to expensive ones...…….thumbs up from the Netherlands and stay healthy and safe!!

    Wow! I didn't think it would rate that high on a re-review! Very fun re-review guys. It took me a long time to "get" this whisky. The first several pours I had were really just kind of okay. Our bottle was easily half killed before I finally had a glass one night, and BOOM, it really, really impressed me. The layers and layers of flavors were revealed, and I finally understood the praise and what Patterson was going for. It really is a lovely whisky. But if I'm factoring in price though, my rating would be a bit lower. I don't personally think its worth what they charge for it. But I'm still glad to see you guys smiling and enjoying this bottle that much all these years later! Cheers, guys!

    I do like Dalmore more than most. I like the cigar malt more than the KAIII however. I was pushing for this Re review and I have to say, I disagree with the score. In all the negatives listed including chill filtration, low abv, and high price, that had to reduce the score by 0.5 for at least one of you. In prior reviews it seems like the price played a role, but in this one, not so much. So I disagree with you guys but definitely respect your willingness to go back and try some of the early whiskies you reviewed. I do wonder how this would score in a blind tasting not knowing your prior score.
    Regardless, keep up the good work. If we are giving you guys a hard time, people must be listening to you and taking your reviews seriously.

    I get an interesting "coca-cola" nosing note on first sample. 40% ABV makes this whiskey somewhat less "intense" but it allows one to certainly appreciate the aroma and palate much more readily. I would say this is an excellent "introduction" to a complex whiskey for a beginner that they could easily distinguish the nose and palate without much of the heat in higher ABV offerings. It's a delicious and intriguing dram for the connoisseur but a fantastic educational dram for the up an coming enthusiast. Overpriced? Maybe, but not if you enjoy a whiskey perfectly developed which can give you a myriad of notes per sampling.

  • @cuauroao

    You can get so many whiskies where these flavors can be picked, for a quarter of the price. Agree is unique, and in my opinion, not worth it. Allardice 18, Edradour 10, Adelphi and even Cadenhead’s will help your palate and your pocket.

  • @brego129
    @brego129 4 роки тому +6

    $320 locally and a low ABV that I am not on board with. I think Dalmore suffers from it's low ABV. Dalmore 12 for instance has a great but muted nose that the palate and finish cannot live up to. Dalmore to me would be much better at 46%+ ABV. Just my opinion.

    • @phillyscorpio3804
      @phillyscorpio3804 4 роки тому +1

      I disagree...I don't need a hot ass scotch...all the time. Some scotches are made to just flat out enjoy without going inferno! I think a 40% ABV are simply fine... when you start going to 46% ... you need water to calm it down, just to pick out the flavors.
      That's fine... but I'm more of a neat drinker, & would prefer not to always have to tame down my scotch.

    I'd be very interested in how you think this compared to the glenmorangie signet. They are very similar in that they are both high end NAS whiskies and are relatively unique. Just rewatching some reviews and you docked .5 from the signet die to price but not here.
    Fully accept that this video is a year old and you'll probably never see it!!

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  3 роки тому +1

      This is a great question! Both the King and Signet are amazing bottles and worth the price if you can afford them. However, they're two different bottles. Signet is a chocolate coffee lovers dream. It's one of the most unique scotches I've ever had and stands out amongst all so far. The King (although more money) I would say encompasses everything there is to like about scotch. It's approachable at 40% ABV, and have 6 unique tastes that let you travel the scotch world all in one drink. If I had the money to spend, I would own them both and always have a bottle on my bar. Go with your wallet and tasting profile. -Drew

    I absolutely am a fan of the Dalmore Port. I want to add this to my collection very badly just watching you 4 nose and taste it and talk about it. However, bum bum bum....no NAS.....for 250 to 300 $s. I really don't know if I can do that. The Glenmorangie Signet I just finished and yeah a lot of scotch snobs would write it off as well for many reasons. So here's my dilemma. I am in need of a bottle to put in my locker at my haircut place. (My membership allows me to put bottles and glassware in my locker and I can take it to the bar or sit in a leather chair and drink it before during snd after my haircut and whatever else. It's amazing.) That Signet was the last bottle in my locker and is empty. Should I but another Signet where I know it's for sale and can go get it tomorrow, or should I buy this King Alexander and have a go at it????? I'm torn guys. Help me out

      Yes it is complex. The main problem is they watered it down so much. It is thin, watery, no finish, weak mouth feel. This is okay whiskey at $100-$150. Something like Longrow 18 absolutely smashed this with much more flavor intensity, mouth feel, finish, and yes complexity.

    instead of reviewing and re-reviewing these high priced Scotches, why not review some good, reasonably priced bottles. Unless you've already reviwed everything out there.
