      pairs quite nicely - either complementing a softer cigar or contrasting with a robust stick.

    I don't have a ton of experience with Dalmores, but I do prefer this over the 15. First tried it maybe 3-4 years ago (it is available here in QC, Can) and have had a second unopened bottle in my basement for a while now. BTW, I have tried it while also enjoying a cigar(illo), and it certainly is a good match.

    I started crying a little when you said "broke the bottle". I've enjoyed the odd Dalmore in the past, but with prices continuing to climb (especially here in Sask) I'd rather spend my money on other drams that are higher proof and less monkeyed with. Good review as usual.

    Congratulations on Review #280, well, a mini-Congratulations! ^_^
    A quick question Mark, what would the Cigar Malt have to have for you to score it a couple points higher? I haven't had this yet, but a friend of mine seem to rave about some years ago.

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Andrew! Don’t get me wrong it is good stuff! Only a couple points shy of my highest score. If it were 47 percent and had more older stock used it may have gotten a 93.
      I am enjoying the bottle immensely!

      @@WhiskyWhistle Good to hear from you Mark. I do wonder whether or not, if it was unchilled-filtered, and marked as such, would that make a difference? I know that question has two elements to it, but assuming it isn't, I wonder if it would be worth a point or two, if it were. Of course, I am not saying that whisk(e)y that is chilled filtered are inferior. I have had plenty of whisk(e)y that was chilled-filtered that were quite enjoyable. I just always wonder if those whiskies would be better if they weren't put through that process. Anyway, good review Mark! As for cost, I am still a bit under the "opportunity cost" mode, so I will save my dollars and spend it for a 21yo Redbreast, when I go to Tokyo in January and actually save a few compared to the prices the Dalmore Cigar Malt is selling at. :P

    Bordeaux Premier Crus that are primarily Cabernet would be from the Left Bank: Château Latour, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux and Château Haut-Brion. So the box seems to be saying that casks from at least one of these wineries is being used to age the Dalmore Cigar Malt. Do you think this means the casks are from a top wine of one these wineries or could they be from second or third wines from one of the wineries?

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  5 років тому +1

      Awesome info, Alan. They would use the best as those would impart the most character. Otherwise like many others they would simply say ‘French wine casks’ or ‘Bordeaux wine casks’ - every time I go back to this I truly enjoy it.
      Happy new year! Cheers!🥃🥃🥃🥃

    The Dalbored, lol. I actually enjoy this Dalmore, especially the older discontinued version. Dalmore's team seem to do a outstanding job picking rare European, French Oak traveling casks and butts plus pulling from well matured and influenced stocks and I'm sure the older version had very little bourbon influence if any at all. Still, I truly believe Dalmore needs to get away from the highly blended Single Malt. It is a dis service to Dalmore's spirit, It's a soft and complex whisky and crushing it in heavy wine maturation makes no sense.

    The last time I had this (10 years ago) it was only $69.99 CDN, now this stuff is $170.00, I really don't think its worth the price, it might be good whisky but there are far better ones for far less money!!!

      Thanks for the comment! This one really spoke to me - as mentioned it reminded me of the Glendronach 15 which was 80 I think before it disappeared. You can definitely say it’s a tad overpriced. I think it would be nice if it were priced closer to Macallan editions or Glenmorangie private editions. I paid 205 plus tax in Manitoba(ouch) and the ‘Morangie is about 160 plus tax here(it should be 140)suffice to say I’ll be arranging my purchases for 2018 from elsewhere except if on sale here.

    One of the worst whiskys I’ve had. Cough syrup to the max. I stored with some air for now 6-7 months and will likely decanter a couple of times in 3 months and try again

      Sorry to hear you didn’t like it. It could be a bad batch, or it could be your preferences. Have you had other Dalmores? I know a lot of whisky geeks like me aren’t Dalmore fans, at least not for official bottles. Hopefully you can trade if it still isn’t up to snuff - that is not a cheap bottle! Best of luck either way.

    91 for the malt that Ralfy hated so much that it put him off Dalmore for a long time. Interesting. All I can say is that I find Dalmores overinflated marketing and prices and underwhelming quality ridiculous. Id rather go for Springbank or independent bottlings where quality is the marketing

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, that’s my independent, unbiased opinion and score. In my opinion it is priced ok for its quality. I paid too much being in Manitoba but $133 Canadian, which is the price in Alberta ( roughly the same in some American states and UK) makes this an easy buy. Just one man’s opinion! Take it or leave it. Ideally try it first.

I just realized that UA-cam deletes my other ones when about politics and the number of likes as well when they leave it up. Especially on RT and TYT and other alternative media.
