I had a consult with a female gynecologist and she was so unable to acknowledge any emotional component to my hysterectomy that I decided I could not work with her. It’s 2021 and she’s been in practice for 30 or more years.I was appalled that she could not bring any measure of sensitivity to my experience.

Oh my gosh, I needed this video right now. I am 5 days post-op and I feel so depressed and like I could cry all day. It just came out of nowhere. None of my doctors warned me about this part of a hysterectomy.

My surgery was 3 months and a half ago. I had my family around until recently and now I'm finally completely on my own. I can't stop crying and being depressed. I didn't think that a hysterectomy could have major psychological effects; I don't think that it was discussed with my doctor either.

The medical community definitely fails us on this surgery. There are way bigger consequences and side effects than they tell us.

I've been pregnant 3 times and have one living child. To stop thinking about the losses, I put my energy on my son, and my cousins 3 children to take my mind off of things. That was the only way I made it. Now they are grown; and going to college, and I feel the empty nest syndrome starting. Even for the ones that are not mine. I am just so thankful that I am alive to see all of this come to fruition.

I had the physical pain following surgery, but I couldn't feel more happier without my uterus! Even tho some women might feel sad over not being able to have kids at all, one of the best ways to get over it is, think of it this way: Remember all the years that that organ, the uterus also caused so much humiliation too, with all its disgusting bleeding and painful cramps! That's the best way to think of getting past it, I feel that way anyway. I suffered more misery and suffering before my hysterectomy than after. Now it's just the stress of everyday life that can worry me, but I find it's not as stressful. Life is more fulfilling without having to be on birth control or having to worry about another unpredictable timing of a stupid period to ruin my fun.

I wish that I never had my partial hysterectomy. My thyroid became messed up and the doctor never explained how my hormones would rage out of control. Mood swings off the chart. Just because the ovaries are left does not mean that you still won’t need hormones. I went a long time not knowing that. My doctors did the usual, prescribe anti-depressants. So sick of that always being the only thing the doctors in my area want to do.
