Joe was Steve Vai's first guitar teacher when they were teenagers (both went to the same high school).
Oh and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) was his student too!

Finally someone else reacting to Satch! So many people react to all kinds of guitarists. Satch seems to get overlooked. Have seen him six times and he is always AMAZING!
So you mentioned his sunglasses. He wears Oakley sunglasses and has been featuring them on his album covers since 1998's Crystal Planet.

“Mind storm” is the song that got me hooked on joe, i was younger, born 88. I loved the heavy low tunings, when i heard that song from him. Yassss dude, hopefully if you guys check it out, hopefully you guys like it. Plus its a 7 string he plays. He doesn’t really play that. That’s why it was cool for me. There is a live vid also that is cool, almost a orange guitar

This typical Joe, amazing, who needs a vocalist when your music sings like this. Joe has taught a lot of great guitarist and that includes many who have copied him. He is a master and up there with the best I have ever seen (Hendrix, Lee, Santana, Kath, Clapton, etc..). Satch is the man and imagine a whole concert of this to soak up the music and truly enjoy!!
Joe has been around since the 90’s. He is incredible and there over 18 albums to explore! My favorites are “Flying in a Blue Dream” and “Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards”’, although “Surfing with the Alien” is also good. He also played a side project, G3, with Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Actually, G3 doesn't have a set roster - over the years there have been many other guitar greats in G3. On their last tour in 2018 I saw Satriani together with John Petrucci (of Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment fame) and Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions). Other than Satriani and Steve Vai, Petrucci has played the most G3 tours (6).

Always love noting for anyone who doesn't already know: Joe Satriani and Steve Vai went to high school together as kids in Long Island, and Joe gave Steve guitar lessons. Considering how they each mastered the instrument (and are legends in their own right, in their own way), it's totally rad knowing that Joe mentored Steve way back in the day.
However, I think it's fair to say that the person "responsible" for Steve Vai's style was Frank Zappa.

Man...or (and) women...more i listen to this song... more i enjoy it . I am not talking only of the technical aspects but more of the melodic side . From the beginning i was concentrated in the technical part but also the structure of the song in terms of using passion , groove , melody it's great . The work of the drummer is great . Rolls , Fills and Upbeats . The passages over snare . 1'11" - 2'32" I don't know if it's partially referred to me... but Jon , wonderful Suzi (i don't know... but anyway thank you lady for the amazing parentesi's phrase about your family) and Travis I 💝 you . 5'20" Jon ;-) you know that it's talked about metric structure in music principally on a rythm section level . The drummer should give a metric structure to a song ;-) The term "metrics" involve every aspect that concerns the built of a rythm , include pauses obviously , and so a groove with his eventually switching Tempos bpms patterns ;-) . The sound of this guitar...

Satch while still up there in guitar virtuosos, for me, is a little less of a favorite for me compared to others like Vai, buckethead, zappa, malmsteen. Prince, Santana, Stevie ray Vaughn.
