I'm not quite as good but I sit around all day and night bending strings and breaking Wang bars and distorting the shit out of everything and SMOKING WEED! YEAH BOY, you don't have to be Joe to dig the vibe!! 🎸 😎

Weed is not conducive to good guitar playing. Or anything good for that matter. Satch doesn't need drugs because music is his drug.

My late husbands favorite song, he was a great fan of yours. And he also loved to play the guitar, This song is so beautiful , we played this song at his funeral at his request. Thank you Joe Satriani. ❤🍀
    * Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and greet Mr. Joe Satriani at the special Club Joe VIP Q&A!
For my brother, my son and myself, this was a memorable, unforgettable moment!🤗Besides being a virtuoso on the guitar and a great musician, he is also a very humble and kind man.!
The concert was amazing !! (And of course "Always.. was our highlight)❤ 💥Thanks again Mr. Satriani!❤

I was estranged from my older brother for 8 years due to personal differences compounded by childhood trauma we both suffered that affected us both deeply. As young boys we both loved this song, it was one of the first albums that he ever owned.
I randomly decided to share this with him a couple of months ago and after absolutely no contact from him for years he actually messaged me back and then called me. We have started to forgive one another and we are rebuilding our relationship.
    Cheers Joe.

Think that pretty much raps it up. 🤭 learning all the lyrics from Polyphia’s album took me the longest. Vai’s not to bad to learn now I’ve called off the 18 year search to find the true spiritual meaning of “Yayo Gakk” 😂 Sorry. I’m a huge Satriani fan. If you say so. I only see proof that Joe practiced his scales and knows his modes/intervals, and therefore has a solid musical knowledge at the base of his impressive techinque. The only soul I have ever seen is the Kia Soul. You call it soul. I call it a lot of practice and knowledge of music theory. Like, good old fashioned hard work bearing its own fruit. I doubt Joe would be flattered to see all his study and hard work minimized and played off as "having soul" or "evidence of a soul"! Despite having good intention, that remark is insulting to those who know how hard it is to achieve this level of craftsmanship in music. No one know that better than Joe Satriani. He was a teacher himself, notorious for the
high standards he held for his students. He left a veritable holocaust of dismissed former students in his wake while at the same time taking great pride in former students who had been disciplined enough for his lessons to go on to greatness. Alex Skolnick comes to mind as an example of one of Joe's best students. He was pretty good before he took lessons from Joe. But after, he was one of the great ones.
Again, I doubt Joe would agree with your well meaning sentiment. But hey, what do I know? I'm just an old guitar teacher and someone who knows a thing or two about Joe.

Who are you to judge whether one can or can't make the comparison being able to make this kind of music and having a soul. This person tells us he is touched within the core of his soul by this music and to him/her is it proof humans do have a soul being able to make beautiful music like that. Oh you know "a bit" about Joe Satriani? So what? It is about the personal perception of someone and nobody else can make a judgement about that.

I had never heard anything like this before, the way it moved me was like nothing else I’d ever heard. I was so excited. Been a huge fan ever since. I absolutely love this track. I played it at the funeral of a buddy of mine who was killed in a motorbike accident. It can still reduce me to tears. There’s so much emotion in it. My dad introduced me to Joe Satriani when I was 9 (31 years ago) and this song meant so much to me. No one seemed to care as much as I did about Satriani, and I began to think I was the weird one for liking songs with no words. I am so happy to see this in 2023 and remember the day I played this song on repeat for hours, 31 years ago. Memories of a life lived long ago lived again for a few minutes. Thank you Joe.

I'm 40 and my old man has loved jazz for decades so I also preferred instrumentals from a young age. They're much more expressive.
My primary school music teacher played this in class and asked the kids to draw what they were inspired. One drew a funeral procession. That's when I started paying attention to Satriani.

The first time I've heard Surfing with the Alien in the late 80s I was impressed. Loved Joe's music always. An unique performer always ahead of his time. Bless you Joe long live your music...

The original song is a classic, but for me the whole extra 5 mins of jamming is simply the best live guitar I have ever heard, the note selection, the bends, the sound, the guitar is screaming and then all of a sudden crying, it’s just magic. Never ceases to blow my mind.
