  • Are you living for one source of pleasure after the next? Whether it be social media, romance novels, video games, online sex, food, alcohol or drugs, Psychiatrist Dr. Anna Lembke, author of internationally acclaimed Dopamine Nation, says we're risking mass depression if we don't let our brain recover with a little boredom or pain. You may have felt this yourself after indulging in the things you love doing too much or too often. We need more and more to feel satisfied. Or we may feel anxious when we're separated from our "addiction." It all comes down to how our brain produces the feel-good chemical Dopamine. This is a fascinating story of what happens in our world of overindulgence. Enjoy!

I stopped listening to all truthers, spiritual teachers, spiritual leaders, a few years ago, etc. what happened? My own Self is now heard so easily and connection to Light Beings became stronger than ever! And my relationships became a joy. I would have never predicted it.

Amazing thing about anything one has the opportunity to explore. Balance is the key. If you can't put it down and walk away from ANYTHING addiction needs to be investigated. It doesn't mean everything is off the table if moderation is followed as well as the why behind your choices.
No one wants to live in a box that limits everything in their lives. So being self aware and doing self monitoring is a skill everyone needs to build the muscle for. If everyone would relearn how to communicate face to face, get off social media and their phones imagine the change society would go through. More developed relationships with everyone they come into contact with. WOW what a concept😊❤

Wow! Touché! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Been there done that, still struggling with distractions. 😵‍💫🙄 I feel it's time for me to go cold turkey and put my devices away. Embrace springtime with new beginnings and see what happens.... I got a flip phone months ago to help with this but it's my iPad now that pulls me in. My excuse is listening to videos while doing other things. I'm curious about all kinds of things and I love researching, but I get lost in it. 😜 Plain music without radio is the old way to go until silence is enough. The fact you both admit to similar behaviours empowers me. So many people look up to you and you show you are just as human as everyone else yet you own your uniqueness. Thank you sisters. Keep up the good work. 🙏 🤗 💕

Thanks Regina I loved this conversation and it reminded me of my high school motto which was "ne quid nimis" which is "nothing in excess". I feel if you scratch the surface in most lives you will find some sort of addictive behaviour. The first step is self awareness.
I often get told that I am too honest even if delivered in a kind and compassionate manner so sometimes I think people want the truth as long as it is what they want to hear.
As for social media, I'm rarely on it as I'd rather be connecting in nature

To attain balance, one must remove all lesser energy / attention drains. Determine your essentials, and fung Shui / remove the Rest . Anna's point about "Process addiction" In a constantly changing World has wide ranging implications on long term wellbeing and survival. Thank you again Regina !

I unplugged from 99% of all videos/truthers. 100% from social media. things. Feels strange not knowing what is going on. Heard something today that really makes sense to me. "It's all real, but nothing is True"

Absolutely love this interview. Truth is worth it's weight in gold. It's a horrible world that we can't tell the truth because someone might get hurt. I'm talking from personal experience. My partner tried to kill themselves but I can't speak truthfully about my feelings and what I'd like going forward because it hurts their feelings.

What is missing in this discussion is the impact of trauma on behavior. 12 step is woefully inadequate in this regard. "Focus on sobriety! Put one's trauma history on the back burner." I shake my head at this simplistic and utterly ineffective approach. The Dr. references 1 year sobriety as a marker of successful recovery. Sobriety, per se, decreases exponentially after 1 year, to less than 10% remaining sober. 12 step remains a popular intervention in a society devoid of a social safety net. It is punitive by design. Often traumatizing. Long time adherents may substitute predatory behavior as an addiction to grooming 'new comers' into fullfilling their role of narcissistic supply. These new comers seldom remain sober.

The documentary called 'Babies' (2010) followed the first year of life of four babies from Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Tokyo. It was very interesting.

Oo!!! Interesting comment made near the end there. "We are natural born liars!!!" No judgment there...just saying it was an interesting-intriguing comment.
