Yup, and Grid Autosport. A shame more racing games haven't adopted this option, especially for WRC, MotoGP, V-Rally, and especially absolute driff. Right thumbstick throttle can only take you so far, and even then some sim games don't even have this option. Its a shame that they haven't allowed 3rd party analogue trigger controllers to just work as intended.
@@naliboi93 it would be so nice if I could use the 8bitdo's analogue triggers on the switch... it feels so silly that my controller that I use on pretty much all my devices has reduced features on the original device I intended to buy it for lol
@@Billy_Souls you clearly didn't watch any part of the video, he literally criticizes how much it costed him along with the time it took to ship and the controller itself to end with the conclusion that most people shouldn't buy it.
I bought these when they first went on sale and I am not disappointed at all. The comfort of holding the controllers makes it easy to play for hours with no cramps (since I have huge hands). It also functions great I dont really have any major issues with it
I have small hands and still found these really comfortable. I seriously don't understand why the size complaint was a big factor for Wulff. As for the Hori split pad, it feels much worse than the Nyxi to me. It isn't bad, but I literally would never go back to them now if not for.. I guess analog triggers?
The gamecube controller layout has always been my favorite style since its release. So literally, all I wanted from these were for them to be as good as or better than my Binbok joycon, with the programmable back buttons, and have the layout of the gamecube controller which it seems to have nailed for the most part. I wish they still would have had the analog triggers so i could map it to my PC as well for games that use the function, but I guess I'll have to keep waiting for that.
They're certainly the best JoyCons so /far/, but I do hope that that doesn't remain the case because there's a lot to improve on with these. Comparing button to button, it's just so far from GameCube controllers. Easy to take apart and mod, though! So that's nice. I was able to put tap on the inside to block the facebutton LEDs... then I learned that they can be turned off. lool. The trigger switches should be easy to replace. The D-Pad is great. But, yeah, there are loads of complaints about them that make it clear that there's a market for a better set of GameCube JoyCons. I'm hoping that Nyxi sees all of the comments & videos like mine, and this one & @VKsChannel talking about the things that were odd to have changed, like the C stick, the face button dimensions. Like... to be so close to the original shows that they want to appeal to the nostalgia, but they fell short.
The gamecube controller is great for games that are built around it. However, a lot of multi-plat games from the 6th gen play weird as hell on the layout. My goto example is always Soul Calibur 2 and CvS2 having weird as hell layouts because of the unique nature of the GC pad. It's definitely a controller designed around human factors. I love how it feels and the ideas behind it, but since it's not an industry standard it's very awkward with most non-GC games. Also, the d-pad is literally the worst d-pad ever. Like, even the 360's is better.
Ive always used GameCube style controllers for my switch for every game, the only problem has been the tiny c stick with notched gates for 3d games and the fact there hasn't been any way of using them in handheld mode. I'm so glad a company has made these joycons finally because it fixes every problem for me.
Got mine a few days ago, absolutely love it, I was always a huge fan of the gamecube controller layout and this thing is FAR more comfortable than any other joycon that I've ever tried. Used it for Metroid Prime Remaster and I've mostly been getting use out of it for Theatrythm lately.
This is reassuring, I recently ordered these purely for the comfort factor. I find holding the weight of the switch up in portable mode hurts my hands/wrists as well as my neck. Hoping these will help!
Hall sensors are extremely precise and reliable lol its hardly a buzz word especially when all those alternative controllers listed end up drifting after a few months of wear
@@Billy_Souls “if it hasn’t happened to me it hasn’t happened to anyone”. I’m glad it you’ve had good luck but obviously it’s been an issue if so many people have had their sticks fail.
@@Billy_Souls That's great for you and hope you continue to have such luck. Unfortunately I've had 2 pairs of joycons begin drifting and/or clicking one of the sticks stop working altogether.
@@Billy_Souls N64 stick actually has optical sensor. Basically everything that needs precise sensing is based around optical or hall sensor. It baffles me that controllers woth their repetitive movement are exception...
I absolutely love this controller. Yeah I bought it for the novelty, but it ended up being a very tight, well-built controller. I honestly prefer it to regular joy-cons, which is crazy to me.
OEM JoyCons are trash. I get that they were made for portability, but like my eight year old nephew thinks they're too small, and his hands are like... you know, an eight year old's hands. Small. Nintendo should be making OEM JoyCons. GameCube, Larger of the OEM like Binbok's, but better, NES, SNES, just... go ham with it. I'd shell out loads of money for official Nintendo JoyCons of previous controllers. I d'know... seems like they are dropping the ball.
If I’m playing Switch at home, handheld or docked, I use this controller. On the go, it’s always the regular joycons for portability but the Wizard joycons are 100% preferable
I just got mine in the mail a couple weeks ago, I'm a big fan. I wanted it for the button layout more than anything, and this nails it. It does take a little getting used to at first if you have a lot of hours in another game with the standard joy-con layout, but after getting used to it, its great. I have the hori split pad too and I like it but it felt just as bulky and weird on the switch and the hori has already started to drift so Im hoping the hall effect joysticks actually live up to the hype over time.
Never been to PAX before and I cant figure out where the screenwave booth will be according to the map given on the website. OTL I hope I can somehow find it and get to meet you guys tho
I saw on other videos that you need to charge everything separately! Good to know they charge like normal joycons!! I'm waiting for mine to arrive in a couple of days! Mine was $64.99 free shipping!!
Thank you, man! I wish people would credit the music they used in descriptions. Letting people have an earworm should be morally illegal (if I would rule the world that is, lol). ps. was typing while listening to this and good Lord... first few seconds and the bassist is already slapping. 90s-00s game music were just something else.
@@FahmiZFX Yes I'm not even from that generation but I played them games with my brothers on the Ol' Xbox 360 (sadly not the arcade) and hell yeah the bassist always plays like it's his last day on earth. Always nice to hear from someone who also appreciates these forgotten yet timeless pieces of art. Will never forget that soundtrack. Such epic vibes that hasn't been equaled since.
Metroid Prime on GameCube uses the analog shoulder buttons. Everyone knows the L button digital press locks onto a target, but not everyone knows if you press L lightly, you will strafe without locking onto a target.
I got these GameCube joy cons specifically for how the grips are shaped. On every other JoyCon that you suggested, I found myself with my third and pinkie finger dangling in the back, and the right stick was awkward to reach. Both problems are solved with the GC joycons in the video.
I really love them. Maybe I have weird hands, but theyer the only joycons I've played with in handheld mode that feel comfortable to hold for a long period of time.
I have had NYXI brand XL Joy-Cons since the OLED Switch was released. After using them or an extended amount of time, these XL Joy-Cons are great. The only downside is that after a while, the small locking mechanism seems to get a bit loose and sometimes is able to slide off without having to hold the release button on the back. But your Switch won't just fall off the Joy-Cons, so there's no need to worry.
I recently got mine and I’m quite impressed. I was actually looking for “pro” style joycon replacements around the time these became available in January and I was hit with a wave of nostalgia when I saw these and immediately got them. Yeah, they’re a bit pricy and took a while to come in but the quality and feel is top notch to me. I just don’t like the function buttons on the back. WAY too easy to hit them by accident.
It does look the part, but I was massively disappointed, it just doesn't feel good. I hold a wavebird and then hold it and it's just off. The wavebird is so comfortable, on the Nyxi there's something about the shoulder contouring that makes it too chunky and uncomfortable. I wanted to love it so bad, I'm bummed I spent money on it.
I bought pretty much all pro joycons like nyxi/binbok, hori and more... They all feel like absolute cheap trash imo... Wish 8Bitdo made some joycons tbh...
I think the inclusion of hall sticks for this was a smart move. In theory they should last longer unless they physically break down. At least the sensor will remain accurate.
Man, every time i see someone mention HE sticks i remember the ps5 "elite" controller. All they had to do was spend a bit more on the sticks. But no, they made a insanely complicated system to hot swap them. They take up so much space that the battery is horrible. My xbox elite controller have started to drift a bit after 20 hours or so. Bought a 8bitdo ultimate and i love it.
@@greenprotag Gulikit did team up with 8BItDo to make the ultimate controller but I'd say the ultimate is better in regards to QC. I own both and my Zen pro needed to be swapped out twice at target before i got a usable one. The charging dock and 2.4ghz connector are just icing on the cake.
@@13Maur They did that to get a steady future income from people who bought that overpriced controller. They want you to have to buy new sticks every year or two.
@@13Maur On the bright side Gulikit is working on replacement stick modules for the DualSense Edge so switching them out for Hall Effect will be the easiest swap ever. No need to take apart the controller and fiddle with ribbon cables.
I've seen a lot of videos featuring this controller, but it seems you're the only one being honest about it. Thank you, I think I'm going with the split pad.
The Wizard is the only third party controller I bought for Switch because it's one of the few options when it comes to split type joycons that can also be used wirelessly. I was also surprised that they have free shipping now which is rare for someone like me in New Zealand. The price definitely dropped because you can get 10% from pretty much any other youtuber. Their stock has also been back since I ordered at the start of March and was surprised it got here just yesterday (22rd).
Can we appreciate the back drop for this video. It is such a cozy vibe. Unfortunately this won’t get the amount of views it deserves, but loving the back rounds lately Wood. Keep it up.
It solves the flipped button layout for handheld. Main problem with the switch is they followed the perfect Xbox controller. The switch pro controller has a 10 dollar button pack you can buy to put the buttons in the right spot then reprogram them via software. But for 6 years handheld mode has been pretty much unplayable without pressing wrong buttons like hitting b when it should be an a button at the bottom. This gives a different layout for handheld gaming , which older folks will be familiar with from the GameCubes days.
I use the power A controller too but it’s not perfect. Every now and then I end up doing an up+b when I intended to do a side b. Never have that problem with original GC controllers. I’ve had 3 of them and never seen any of them drifting.
@@dylanplatas8869 I can't pinpoint when or where I got it; but it's been a good while - maybe a year or more. I'm not the heaviest Smash player, though.
I found very curious all your comments, cause I bought the power A and it broke after 4 months, left stick started drifting like crazy. Then I bought another pro controller in GameCube controller form by "Exlene" and that one broke after 6 months, right stick started drifting... And after both of them drifting I started to look online and most people had bad experiences with this kind of controllers, but maybe it's just a me problem. That's life, ig
Here are a couple of thing that took me a bit to figure out. You can adjust the rumble in the controllers individually, hold down the turbo button and press up or down on the left or right joystick to adjust the rumble higher or lower all the way to off. Also you can turn the button lights for the right Joycon off, hold the turbo button and click the right joystick down do this multiple times and the lights turn off and on. It may do nothing for a couple of clicks. I think these have the same programming as their RGB light-up controllers, so as your are cycling thru the program to change the colors (that this doesn't have so it just stays lit) you eventually hit the press to turn the lights off. You are right the light up buttons do make the right Joycon battery die quick. I wanna say using it wirelessly while the system is docked, when the left JC would get to maybe 75% the right JC would probably be between 40 or 50% battery left, so far turning the lights off helps a bit.
If you're like me and gc controller damaged, you want that steady GameCube controller with all modern buttons and gimicks. I've tried some third party ones but they all lack something important like Rumble, or they break after some month of use. This thing aint perfect, but it's a gc controller with all features and doesnt break
I'm not gonna lie , i picked this video for the review , once i head that sweet MVC2 music - i blacked out and didnt hear nothing about the controller - keep doing god's work my dude
I found this review interesting since you were comparing it to a normal gamecube controller whereas its modeled after a gamecube wavebird controller. I feel like if you loved using wavebird controllers, then the nyxi variant probably would satisfy those needs.
Just FYI, I've use my switch oled mostly for handheld. Because if I'm going to play docked, it's better just to emulate, because of performance problems. So for playing smash, this controller was exactly what I needed. But I'm a very edge case.
I use a Gamecube style controller for my PC since I legitimately think that the Gamecube style layout is the best for most type of games. The NYXI Gamecube Style looked like it had everything I wanted from a Gamecube Style controller. From the way the triggers are shaped, to the back buttons, to even the ability to change the gates of the sticks (though I'd likely keep it as the Gamecube style one). Sadly yeah, most of the issues I hear about it made me not want it too much. From the back buttons being kinda useless for my use case, from some people saying the gates are a little loose to yeah, being a little too large. It's a shame really since it was almost my dream controller but alas.
It's totally the best layout. Yes, it is a total shame. It's so close, but the minor changes make a huge difference. I hope that they revise it in the future. I like mine enough to keep it despite my many grievances. It's a fun nostalgic throwback. For that, it's worth the money. And it makes playing Pikmin even more enjoyable! If you want another take on this controller, checkout my comparison video and my teardown video. The button dimensions are some of the more obvious differences.
Gamecube style is definitely not the best for most games; many big games do not use the A button for anything meaningful or straight up do not use the A button
Maybe, but loads of people are fawning over this controller. I like it for what it is. I really do, but there are issues with it. There are like four reviews that I've watched that aren't fawning over it. Three excluding mine. Hopefully more pop up!
@@CarrotsNotCake Oh I agree it’s not perfect. But it is fun and dope. The biggest issue is the right thumbstick. They should’ve included a C-stick size. But the rest of it is really fun and justifies the price. I would bet good money that if Nintendo doesn’t make their own, this thing will fetch a super high price on the collectors market in about a decade. 😉
Got mine. I like the size. Regular GC controllers are too small for me. These are like a XB360 controller-sized Gamecube controller. I think that's perfect.
i'd like to mention that i found these on their website for just $60 (and only cost me $50 because they were having like, an anniversary sale or something) and honestly i've loved everything about these, maybe i just have huge hands but i've never felt like the form factor is too big or uncomfortable, it feels very natural to play with. my main reason for getting it was because i wanted a modern controller with octagonal gates that wouldn't drift (looking at you, powerA wireless gamecube controller) and it's pretty much become a daily driver for handheld mode, as well as being a pretty suitable standalone controller if i need it to be.
I think all the points you bring up are useful to hear. I bought it, i'm satisfied with it, but I also use the PowerA controllers for almost all of my gaming when I'm at home, I find that they have just a very minor delay from the pro controller, and this controller. So I see it as a minor upgrade to my usual setup. It's not something that most people will want, the diehard smash players will use a normal gamecube controller, the macro is mostly useless, the novelty of it is a big selling point for it. But I am completely satisfied with my purchase of it.
I have this controller and I will say its kinda flimsy in handheld mode and the tracks that it connects to the switch with are getting loose after maybe 50 hours of use.
I like the different setup of buttons. Makes me not get confused jumping from xbox. And the mapping to one side makes me happy that it'll be harder for people to cheat press with the programmable buttons.
Hall sensors are not a buzzword, look it up.. They provide contactless sensing, which is why they are more precise. Ofcourse, the sticks still can wear and become wobbly, but sensors won't become erratic. Cause of joycon drift is that particles from resistive layer inconsistently wear and spread around cintact, which causes errors in reading.
I'm glad I watched someone elses review first because these quickly became some of my favorite controllers. Tied for first on my favorite "joycons" lol
Mine just shipped yesterday...tad on the pricey side, however, with 10% off my first order and free shipping, it came to less than the price of a new pair of OEM joycon or a pro controller...so it's not too too bad. Pretty cool thing to have. I couldn't resist 😅
Its worth the price if you compare it to actual joycons. I have no issues paying for quality. I bash Nintendo quite often. This Joycon is actually worth the price
@@Chaoskae I hope so...I've heard mixed things regarding the build quality on these. RetroDodo wasn't a fan of that aspect for example. So we'll see when they arrive.
I use Split Cons on Splatoon and I'm thinking these might work better because of the sticks, and it packs in motion. Plus the button layout works well enough.
Scummy tactics from NYXI. They unveiled this controller and mentioned they were limited production (10,000 units) to create FOMO. Now, they're just part of their original lineup. Terrible company.
Looks like a cool way to turn your switch into a boomerang that can be chucked into the garbage, never to return. Great video. I'm gonna go play Aria of Sorrow on my rg35xx now.
Spent $80 on the Power A Fusion Pro 2 and I’ll never need another other controller again. That controller you reviewed awhile back feels great man, I just wish they had more faceplates for it.
I got mine for $64 with free shipping and a discount code they have on the website. its a fair price for what it offers but I would feel the same he does if I paid more than that
It's actually perfect for every game in handheld mode. The major problem with the switch it does the best controller layout the Xbox but flips the button which leads to pressing the wrong buttons all the time. Lucky the switch pro controller has a set for about ten bucks to switch them then you remap them via switch software to the correct button placement. For handheld there has been no option till now. A different layout then the Xbox and it's the GameCube which I spent 1000+ hours playing yea in handheld don't miss press buttons anymore.
I think you’re massively underrating how much people like the GameCube controller. I think it’s the best controller ever made, I think every Nintendo controller going forward should be a GameCube style controller. Every time we mention, GameCube controllers in 2024, it seems to be in the context of playing smash, but I think it’s just the best controller full stop. GameCube style joycon fill a really big hole in the market for people like me that just love the GameCube controller.
You can have a Power-A avengers controller hooked up to a mayflash magic-NS and play games very similar feel to a wavebird. All you’d have to do is open er’ up and reroute the trigger to a full trigger ‘click’ and then it would be the most comfortable silk-like rubberish material wavebird replacement. The Power A even has a quick dis-connect so you can zip tie the portion that stays attached to the dock and yank the cord off without dragging your system off your shelf!
Shoutouts to the Coriorvis joycon, they're basically a HORI splitpad but with wireless/rumble/gyro, and just a little less expensive than regular joycon. (i guess they're like the binbok joycon but I've heard those have a lot of manufacturing issues)
I always though nintendo would make retro console themed joycons so they could re-release old games with their retro style controllers. I own the NYXI Gamecube joycons, and they're exactly what I wanted.
I've had mine for a couple of weeks, actually got my shipping notification the day I got Metroid Prime Remastered. I like them, tha face buttons do feel the third party buttons, but all in all I really do like them.
honestly the power A gamecube controller is the best for smash bros. i also love the 8bitdo ultimate controller, except the stick is a tad bit too sensitive for smash bros but it works very well.
how well can you do short hop attacks on it? I’m looking for a little more detail for how this controller plays competitively for Smash and thought you’d be the reviewer to give me that cuz I remember you played smash a lot.
I think your love of stickless fighterpads and waiting 7 years soured this for you. I use a gamecube style controller for everything, Smash, Mariokart and splatoon. This has tripled the time I play in handheld mode from 2% to 6%. My only complaint is why it took so long.
"make you think it can't drift" except that is actually what it means, at least in terms of the drift we know from other sticks today. The magnets will not loose their magnetic field in any of our lifetimes, and thus the sticks will not drift. As for the price, in Australia it works out to the same price, maybe a little cheaper than official joy-cons. Plus, no drift, and being a GCN controller means it's just cool. I'm loving mine, even for Zelda and MK8, and every time I look down at it, it brings me joy because GameCube :D
This is hilarious and perfect timing. I brought this EXACT Joycon in January and it just came I’ve got the box in my hand right now. I have a lot of hours in Smash so I wanted this Joycon. I love Smash so I brought the NYXI Joycon.
I'm using this to play emulators on my steam deck when docked. Still a niche use though. It helps my simple brain not get confused when I switch between Nintendo and Xbox style controller layouts.
I bought mine in January as well, I got mine in march 9th I paid 45$ for them cause at the time they had a sell free shipping and had 5$ off coupon and used points to know another 5$ off I love them i use them in every game i can, my complaint is that it is massive much bigger then a xbox controller and the holder grip needs to be skinnier, wish it didnt have the turbo and macro I thought using them split apart like joysticks one in the hand would be weird but nah i got use to it quick and can play games like that laying on couch
You watch your mouth about the Retroflag! I love using that when I'm "on the go", and I also bought the NYXI wizard too. I use it as a controller, *rarely* in split mode. It's great for MK8, SSB, all games where you would want to use a GC controller. I've used them in split mode, but they don't feel good in split mode, they have slop when connected that way. I plan on replacing the C-stick with a real C-Stick since NYXI designed the sticks to come off and made the rings around them swappable for notched or smooth depending on your preference.
Also, this recent hall effect situation is very interesting to me. I am strict on clickiness, but even more strict on joysticks themselves. Due to this, I have a sort of.. "enhanced sensitivity" when it comes to how well a joystick functions. I've bought 3 hall effect controllers overtime, and also modded my own Joy Cons with Gullikit's DIY. I noticed the gap in quality immediately. Sidenote, it's a good thing I DID mod them though, because I actually developed stick drift in the right Joy Con while waiting for them to deliver, and they're the limited edition Smash Bros ones.
Whoa, so you're saying that you prefer the feel of OEM analog? I haven't used GK's, so I d'know if I like them. I've been saying for weeks now that it's a quality thing. And there can be shitty hall effect sticks just like there are shitty analog ones. I have no faith in hall effect sticks being quality.
@@CarrotsNotCake I can definitely see that. It might very well be a mix of both. The reason I’m supporting it so much is because of my own experience with both, but I also think they can have a bright future. If enough time passes where we are experimenting with both, then there is bound to be a new type of joystick that takes the best of both worlds. Granted, we have to take into account that not nearly as many companies focus on hall effect currently. The ones we see could very well just be ones who have spent a lot of time behind the scenes, whereas the original already has a “gold standard” and grow complacent. That’s only an idea though, because no one besides the people at work truly know.
I think the most frustrating this about this controller is how hyped everyone has been about it. I bought into the hype, pre-ordered it as soon as the second set or pre-orders went live. Only to receive a controller that felt incredibly flimsy, but not only that arrived defective. The r joy con for this doesn’t work at all. Can’t charge, can’t connect to the switch to get it to change. Been waiting weeks to hear back from NYXI’s support on the DOA controller. Nothing back from the company at. Total radio silence. I’m glad everyone is enjoying the Hall effect joy sticks on these, hopefully you don’t get one dead from the factory.
LEDS on mine constantly turn on and off every 3-5 when docked. i turned the LEDS off and in a dark room they still flicker on and off and it is really annoying. i also contaced nyxi and still havent gotten a response in 3 weeks.
Am I the only one who bought a gamecube style Switch controller from Walmart? No one ever mentions it. It works and feels great people seem to ignore it. I'm pretty sure it's a very common controller.
This has been literally only made for me. I have the hori split pads and they're ok, but my hands hurt after a while cause there's a button falling off the side of the controller. Also not /super/ grippy and there's no wireless. This controller is literally all I've ever wanted.
Got mine a while back. I like it but I do have some problems with it not mentioned here. First thing I noticed was the grip was different. The handles are thinner than the actual GameCube and doesn't fit as well on the hand, despite the controller being bigger. Secondly playing Smash was fine but I couldn't play Mario Kart Deluxe 8 with it. There was an insane amount of lag from the wireless controller. I couldn't jump and drift when I needed too, most cases it didn't register the button o was pressing. I ended up plugging in an actual GameCube controller as it was really messing up my game. Metroid however worked awesome while playing in handheld. That's all I have to share.
Those powera GameCube controllers are horrendous. We ran a switch group at work and got four of them for Smash. We had to replace every controller through PowerA support. 1 for no longer pairing and the other 3 for faulty sticks. They're support was pretty fast with replacements and easy to work with so there was that at least.
I have one and I actually really like this controller! It's not perfect by any means, but I love the oversized build of it for my giant mitts. The oversized A button is easy to find and satisfying to press. I can understand the criticism, but it's a solid 8/10 for me. Just wish there was a carrying case big enough to take it on the go!
I ordered this earlier this month and got free shipping and a 7 dollar off discount code through the actual site. Only came out to 62.99. Tracking says its close now too.
I think that it’s wireless and still having rumble is a nice touch over the hori spilt pad. I also plaid switch sports with these, very funny and stupid at the same time

@@warbossgegguz679 That D-Pad is... what it is. heh. I'm really glad that the imitations all have better-sized D-Pads.
Yep. Best JoyCons so /far/.
Hall sensors are extremely precise and reliable lol its hardly a buzz word especially when all those alternative controllers listed end up drifting after a few months of wear
zoomer detected.
why do my n64 analog sticks still work perfectly then?
or my gamecube?
or my wii?
or my Wii u?
or my 8 pairs of joycons?
LMNAO
@@Billy_Souls why do you have 8 pairs of joycons if you didn't have issues with them lmao
I can't wait to meet you at PAX.
I wish I could go to PAX to meet you
Fucken stalkers
Who is this guy and why is he in love with Bob?
@@watskeburten Idk but he sounds Australian (that explains everything)
Never been to PAX before and I cant figure out where the screenwave booth will be according to the map given on the website. OTL I hope I can somehow find it and get to meet you guys tho
I saw on other videos that you need to charge everything separately! Good to know they charge like normal joycons!! I'm waiting for mine to arrive in a couple of days!
Mine was $64.99 free shipping!!
Got mine a couple weeks ago and have nothing bad to say!! Use them mostly for smash but often use them for other games as well. Highly recommend
2:20 Cue the most nostalgic video game music I've ever heard. TRUE OGs know this-
Marvel vs. Capcom 2- Airship stage
Thank you king shank
I wonder if you can still do that in the remaster?
I got these GameCube joy cons specifically for how the grips are shaped. On every other JoyCon that you suggested, I found myself with my third and pinkie finger dangling in the back, and the right stick was awkward to reach. Both problems are solved with the GC joycons in the video.
I really love them. Maybe I have weird hands, but theyer the only joycons I've played with in handheld mode that feel comfortable to hold for a long period of time.
Same boat. I don't think it's our hands. I think it's comfort level with the GameCube controllers.
Felt the opposite
I think the inclusion of hall sticks for this was a smart move. In theory they should last longer unless they physically break down. At least the sensor will remain accurate.
Man, every time i see someone mention HE sticks i remember the ps5 "elite" controller. All they had to do was spend a bit more on the sticks. But no, they made a insanely complicated system to hot swap them. They take up so much space that the battery is horrible. My xbox elite controller have started to drift a bit after 20 hours or so. Bought a 8bitdo ultimate and i love it.
@@13Maur I use a KingKongPro2/ Zen Pro and I love it. It's Gulikit's in-house controller.
Their stock has also been back since I ordered at the start of March and was surprised it got here just yesterday (22rd).
just want to say that you could also use this joycons for metroid prime remaster as that game has the original gamecube controls as an options
"...significantly bigger for some reason..."
It's shaped like a Wavebird, that's why!
For anyone considering these now, theres replacement sticks that are C-sticks, and a rechargeable mid-bridge.
Can we appreciate the back drop for this video. It is such a cozy vibe. Unfortunately this won’t get the amount of views it deserves, but loving the back rounds lately Wood. Keep it up.
wood? this is the wrong channel you’re on maybe you meant bob wulff haha
Same. I never did handheld because it's trash with OEM JoyCons.
The PowerA Gamecube-style Switch controller is what I use for Smash. There's an easy mod to kill the unnecessary travel on the (not-)analog triggers.
For how long did you used them for? I used mine only for 4 months and the left stick started drifting
@@dylanplatas8869 ive had mine since release with no issues
I met Wood in person he's an actual sweet heart. I can't speak on Bob as I never met him but if that encourages anyone to go Id recommend it.
The humor in this video was perfect. Thanks.
I'm not gonna lie , i picked this video for the review , once i head that sweet MVC2 music - i blacked out and didnt hear nothing about the controller - keep doing god's work my dude
Thank you Bob, you are the first to actually say what my friends and no other UA-camr said. The truth.
This reminds me of the GameCube's keyboard controller for Phantasy Star Online...
MadLittlePixel has a point
Yes new vid from Bob shot crispy as hell hard work shows dude.
I have one and my sticks have insane snapback too
It's totally the best layout.
You’re too hard on this one, Bob. This thing is awesome
Feel you. The GameCube controllers are a bit small for me, too.
i'd like to mention that i found these on their website for just $60 (and only cost me $50 because they were having like, an anniversary sale or something) and honestly i've loved everything about these, maybe i just have huge hands but i've never felt like the form factor is too big or uncomfortable, it feels very natural to play with. my main reason for getting it was because i wanted a modern controller with octagonal gates that wouldn't drift (looking at you, powerA wireless gamecube controller) and it's pretty much become a daily driver for handheld mode, as well as being a pretty suitable standalone controller if i need it to be.
I used my power a game cube replica controller to play through the entirety of metroid prime. I loved it for nostalgia reasons
Great controller!
But I am completely satisfied with my purchase of it.
my power a wireless controller got drift like a month after I got it
I'm satisfied enough to keep them, but improvements should be made.
Got mine 2 weeks ago. Been LOVING it. One of my favorite controllers now.
My honest impression of the controller was it felt like a lighter weight Wavebird
I actually bought these and love them. It was really cool seeing the GOAT make a video on them.
I see you Bob throwing in that fighting game music. I'm not complaining
I just got this controller 2 weeks ago its amazing! I have big hands and it feels like a pro controller gamecube controller hybrid.
They also increased price.
Looks like a cool way to turn your switch into a boomerang that can be chucked into the garbage, never to return. Great video. I'm gonna go play Aria of Sorrow on my rg35xx now.
Just had to come back to praise the MvC2 soundtrack selection. GOAT
Thanks for this review. I had been in the fence about grabbing this, and I think you’ve steered me clear.
4:50 the Wii Classic Controller has analog ZR+ZL or L + R if i remember correctly, not the PRO version, the classic one.
Spent $80 on the Power A Fusion Pro 2 and I’ll never need another other controller again. That controller you reviewed awhile back feels great man, I just wish they had more faceplates for it.
I got mine for $64 with free shipping and a discount code they have on the website. its a fair price for what it offers but I would feel the same he does if I paid more than that
I was using the Hori Split pad compact until I got the Nyxi controller about a month ago. It’s all I use now. I like them a lot
Are these more comfortable?
Do you have a link to them? I searched, but didn't find anything.
That Vader Sideshow Mythos statue is 🔥🔥🔥
I always though nintendo would make retro console themed joycons so they could re-release old games with their retro style controllers.
I own the NYXI Gamecube joycons, and they're exactly what I wanted.
That'd make sense, wouldn't it? I guess they don't want easy money.
I've had mine for a couple of weeks, actually got my shipping notification the day I got Metroid Prime Remastered. I like them, tha face buttons do feel the third party buttons, but all in all I really do like them.
It wont get much bettter from a third party. I think they are kinda cool.
It could though! -whines- They just don't try!
honestly the power A gamecube controller is the best for smash bros. i also love the 8bitdo ultimate controller, except the stick is a tad bit too sensitive for smash bros but it works very well.
how well can you do short hop attacks on it? I’m looking for a little more detail for how this controller plays competitively for Smash and thought you’d be the reviewer to give me that cuz I remember you played smash a lot.
I think your love of stickless fighterpads and waiting 7 years soured this for you. I use a gamecube style controller for everything, Smash, Mariokart and splatoon. This has tripled the time I play in handheld mode from 2% to 6%. My only complaint is why it took so long.
"From 2% to 6%" lool lool. Yeaaaaaaah. heh.
It should've launched with the console, or with Smash. Stupid Nintendo.
I think PowerA’s offering is the next best thing after the genuine GameCube controllers.
For Switch controllers, yes. For third party GameCube replicas... subjective, but not in my opinion.
Thank you, i needed this video. Saw this being advertised all over social media and was wondering if you reviewed. Appreciate you :)
I swapped the right stick with a traditional C stick and it made the controller feel more comfortable. The right stick is too high otherwise
Correct!
I bought mine in January as well, I got mine in march 9th I paid 45$ for them cause at the time they had a sell free shipping and had 5$ off coupon and used points to know another 5$ off
I love them i use them in every game i can, my complaint is that it is massive much bigger then a xbox controller and the holder grip needs to be skinnier, wish it didnt have the turbo and macro
I thought using them split apart like joysticks one in the hand would be weird but nah i got use to it quick and can play games like that laying on couch
LOVE this marvel vs capcom 2 backing sonf!
You and me both!
You just convinced me to buy it, thanks!
THE REVIEW I WAS WAITING FOR.
Here's hoping there's a c-stick option mentioned in this video XD
That thing does look so ridiculous😂😂
Kinda late to the party here but I'll take it. Keep up your unique work.
I got myself a controller too! Such a great purchase
I completely missed out of the GameCube era 😢
Those powera GameCube controllers are horrendous. We ran a switch group at work and got four of them for Smash. We had to replace every controller through PowerA support. 1 for no longer pairing and the other 3 for faulty sticks. They're support was pretty fast with replacements and easy to work with so there was that at least.
Nice pizza tower footage in the backround!
what is the background beat 2:02 ?
I have one and I actually really like this controller! It's not perfect by any means, but I love the oversized build of it for my giant mitts. The oversized A button is easy to find and satisfying to press. I can understand the criticism, but it's a solid 8/10 for me. Just wish there was a carrying case big enough to take it on the go!
Tomtoc has a carry bag/case and it works fine if u take them off and put them on the plastic middle piece. Not to big either.
@@NovaIsTheBot I'll look into that. Thanks!
I ordered this earlier this month and got free shipping and a 7 dollar off discount code through the actual site. Only came out to 62.99. Tracking says its close now too.
I think the sweater is a good look.
I think that it’s wireless and still having rumble is a nice touch over the hori spilt pad. I also plaid switch sports with these, very funny and stupid at the same time
