Had mine for a couple of weeks now. It arrived just before I moved house so I had lots of time waiting for deliveries in an empty house which gave me time to play and I have to say I like it. D-pads were too thin for me but I find this really comfortable.
Nostalgia fully took over when I first put my snapped my OLED into it. It felt like a really big GB Advance. I now solely only using my Switch with the Nitro Deck now. As someone who LOVES analog triggers like those on Scuf’s or DualSense, this thing is a dream.
Just watched a couple videos on this and was wanting to know Bob's take and then lo and behold Bob descends from the heavens with this video. Thank you to the people who badgered Bob about this! 😂
My joycons were drifting really bad so my main reason for purchasing was the hall sensor sticks. It took some getting used to but now I love it! It also fits in my tomtoc steam deck bag really well.
If you're still looking to fix your JoyCon drift, GuliKit sells hall effect sticks for them now on their website! Gonna get some myself once my replacement pair I got die out.
@@eterwill2999 They might, I'm not sure. They definitely still use potentiometer sticks though, so it's not a matter of if, but when they'll start drifting again. Up to you but I'd avoid sending it to Nintendo personally.
I just got my Nitro deck last week. I bought the purple color that looks like a GameCube controller. Looks very nice. I was using it with my 2017 switch. I actually really like this controller. I like it so much that I bought the switch OLED to use with it specifically. Since I'm planning on using the OLED only for handheld gaming and not connect to the TV I really don't think the Nitro deck is as bad as a lot of you reviewers are saying when it comes to button and joystick placement. It's not a big deal to move the hand a little bit when using the d-pad. Just my opinion. Definitely makes the switch feel more premium in my opinion.
I got something similar that I really liked. It would normally be about $50 but I liked that fact that it was a strictly wireless connection and leaves the Switch's USB plug open. While this means you have to charge it separately, it also has a decent battery and lasts about as long as a Pro controller. The kicker is, since its wireless, you can remove and dock the Switch console portion and then use the device as a wireless controller. The color is a little wonky with the front being transparent with a skin applied and the back being basic ABS. A pair of programmable buttons and the ability to control the lighting and vibration intensity make up for that, I think.
I haven seen a wolf den video since the switch release days. I just don’t UA-cam much anymore but glad to see you’re well and still doing what you love
This would have been something i'd consider getting earlier in the switch's lifetime, well before i would consider getting a carrying case or pro controller. But at this point I already have a pro controller, and a switch lite with a case for it, my normal switch is just permanently docked to use as a home console. So this is something i consider as some cool tech, but I'm way past the point of needing it.
I really like mine. The digital features are hokey and the removal process and the battery drain are negatives. The reason to pay one of these are that the ergonomics are superior (previously the near featureless Hori Split pads were the only way I could play handheld mode in any serious amounts). It is like incredibly more comfortable to use in my big and tall guy hands and I desperately hope the next switch gives us more ergonomic fully featured joycons.
I was putting on a dinky rubber grip that looked like ass every time I took my Switch out of the dock. I also felt like I was about to damage the shoulder buttons trying to get the grip on. This is a much better solution for me. The slot in click action IS quite nice.
Did you not notice the extra $30 got you all the other accessories? $60 doesn't get you the case, thumbsticks, cleaning cloth, and USB-C cable. Dude you used to put the effort into researching the items you review. The d-pad is fine. Never had any issues using it with 2D games.
You mean the release latch below the kickstand that he presses at 5:50? Would have been nice if they had incorporated posts at the bottom that pushed up against the Switch when the latch was pushed.
I like the idea of the Nitrodeck but it is hard to justify getting one this late in the Switch’s lifecycle since I’ll probably be getting rid of mine after getting the new model - unless there’s no backwards compatibility or the Switch OLED gets a softmod like the 3DS
I’ve had the GameCube one for a few weeks. It’s great and I love the build and design, but it doesn’t alleviate right thumb strain when using the camera in 3D games and FPS’s. I also wish the grips were a bit bigger. Oh, and that $30 extra covers the carrying case, thumbstick toppers, and the USB cable. The regular Nitro Deck doesn’t have accessories included.
“It’s weird to see all this hype” …well the hype is you and other influencers reviewing and tweeting about it and the company sending a unit to everyone and their mother.
I still have the Satisfy Grip from when you recommended it. Still use it to this day!! Its great for those gamers that have larger hands! My hand would fall asleep when I dont use the grip
Pretty sold on this after your review - not sure if you touched on this (or anyone can answer) but how are the triggers? I play a lot of Fifa and find the joycon triggers and bumped annoying
I touch on it very briefly at about 4:45 . The bumpers are nice and clicky. The triggers have a bit of travel to them. I dont love them personally but I dont think it’s a deal breaker
Im going to get one because I love the steam deck and I have so many switch titles in physical form that I could use this to enjoy my collection in the long run.
I am getting one because I don’t have a grip already, I love those back buttons for gaming, and especially because I don’t pick up my switch enough anymore.
You really should be using the back button on your steam deck. I use them to replace the L&R buttons up top and macros for games like ratchet and clank so that I don't have to lift my right thumb to jump and dodge.
I got the GameCube special edition, one with the case and everything….. the quality of the case is actually really nice, and it comes with replacement parts… it’s a little pricey, but the quality feels pretty good! At first, I didn’t really like it in the hands, but then it started to grow on me as well. Looking forward to playing Mario wonder with it!
I got a black nitro deck and case in their initial pre-order run. I still really wish they offered the thumbsticks separately other than in limited editions products. The dip in the stick I think is a little too deep to use for something like fps. In the left it's perfect but that right stick requires getting used to
I was ready for your video on the Nitro Deck. I've been using mine since it came out and love it mostly. The right joystick could be higher up on the device. I didn't splurge on a color variant although I really wanted the SNES version. I did end up ordering a case separately so I spent just about the same amount of money but without limited edition color lol. Whoever reads my comment don't be like me. If you plan on getting a case, just buy the limited edition versions that come with a case. But now that I have one, I do have piece of mind that my joysticks won't ever develop drift. Also the trigger buttons are analog! No use on the switch really but could work if connected to a pc.
For Canadians, not only is the base edition $84 CAD, the shipping is $46 CAD! $130 Canadian dollars for it, aint no way. Guess i don't even have to consider it.
So far, im loving mine, makes everything easier and not having to worry about drift for a long time, the charging input placement, and the overall feel just makes up for the 60dllrs for me. Its the best handheld experience ive had since I bought my switch, and I truly went through a lot of joycon variations. Oh, and forgot that I also used it as a pro controller while wired on dock mode felt kind of weird at the beginning, then got used to it and its really good if you have no other good controller options.
I wish that I'd heard about this in time to get an Atomic Purple one. I'm a Gen Xer, so I didn't grow up with translucent Atomic Purple consoles, but Purple is my favorite color and I've always like translucent shells on electronics.
When charging, the light will be on. If the switch is giving off any sort of power the light will be on. I had mine for a weak for my oled, I personally haven't took mine out that much, its practically part of the switch at this point. I love it and can't go back.
I got the $80 snes one and for what it was I enjoy it. My hands feel comfortable for long play Through and the analog stick is smooth. I usually use my switch lite. For most of my games but when I'm home with my oled switch I use this to play games like borderlands. It's an nice idea if your an collector's but for the Casual user you have to Weight your pro and cons.
Like what ? It already has Hall effect sticks, macros, gyro, vibration, charging pass through, and use it as a controller when docked. It’s 20 less than a set of joycons. I can’t think of anything else it needs, besides maybe better quality vibrations and the back buttons too easy to push. Still worth 60 tho I think
@@steveybiggunzgaming8118yeah I agree, very tempted to get one of these myself - for me one of the main benefits is the much more convenient position of the charging port which is on the back of the deck instead of the ridiculous position of right in the centre middle of the switch which is really uncomfortable

Glad you mentioned about the terrible sticker that has to be removed! Mine left residue across the majority of the back. It feels great. it fell off my coffee table about a 2 foot drop and my switch shot out like an old phone battery. It doesn't look damage but it won't work. This thing is too expensive to stop working after one fall
When I got my first switch, I played BOTW on it for a few months straight. Played both handheld and docked using the joycons. The controllers started drifting after 2 months. Then I learnt about stick drift being an issue for the switch. Since then I’ve been apprehensive about playing too much in handheld mode, especially intense games. You don't pay that extra $30 just for the color, you also get a carrying case that you do not get with the $60 versions, which they sell for $30 already. After all you are paying the same amount for all colors, except that you are forced to buy the carrying case if you want the special editions.
i got mine almost a week ago and I'm enjoying it if your planning on getting this make sure to watch reviews to see what everyone likes and dislikes about it I'll tell you this i kind of hope the switch 2 has something like this in the future
About the macros, the 8bitdo Ultimate can save macros. You have to assign them on your computer, but those macros can include wait times between inputs, which makes them extremely useful
Yes but you have to figure out the timing for the button presses yourself which takes some trial and error and is pretty difficult. I had difficulty setting off combos in games for example if it was slightly too fast or too slow. And they get set off EVERYTIME you press the button with that layout profile on. So you'd have to set it to the back buttons (assuming you can) or constantly change profiles.
since you have a fancy new espresso machine, you gotta start looking at remineralizing distilled or RO water! it really helps improve the life of a machine since you can use compositions that are easier on the machine and less prone to cause scaling. it's... a whole thing.
As a 90's kid with my atomic purple gameboy on an Iridescent acrylic shelf behind me in my synthwave colored gaming corner (🙄 lol) I too would have chosen the purple one that being said I am quite in love with my Zelda glow in the dark case/thumbstick covers and carry case my daughter got me for my birthday so I shall be staying with them over this. Super cool though there is definitely a difference between playing on the switch and playing on the steam deck. Hades has been an interesting game to see the difference in playing with either handheld.
I think it looks like a great product for a specific purpose. If you want to use your switch in handheld mode frequently and this is worth the extra cost over a grip.
10:49 my immediate reaction was failed amiibo. they originally intended to implement amiibo but for some weird reason they decided to do this instead. but yeah, nft seem not too far fetched as they developed an app for it
I'm waiting for mine in the mail, i have seen some reviewers say it scratches the back of your switch so i think I'm going to try and leave the sticker on, on the inside since it would provide some cover from the rough back pattern which i suspect is what is scratching the switch, and with the switch in there i won't see the sticker anyways
I'd still just keep the satisfy grip, Being able to keep your original joycons makes it better. And I can always switch out for my cooler looking joycons when I want
That's a problem that it's not a full pass thru. Some games are really low volume on the switch even with headphones so I plug in a USB dac/amp to deal with those moments.
Can confirm it's a fantastic accessory, in fact it's so great that it made me realize I was missing out on the Steam Deck. Now I only play on my SD.
This man's ad breaks are on such a higher level that I actually watch them

i buy hot brew bags from a domestic producer and use a kettle
I'm very interested in getting one but the shipping to Canada is insane
I was really expecting an internal battery to keep the switch on for longer. That was a lost opportunity
Yus!! I’ve been waiting for this video!!
10:49 my immediate reaction was failed amiibo. they originally intended to implement amiibo but for some weird reason they decided to do this instead. but yeah, nft seem not too far fetched as they developed an app for it
I'm waiting for mine in the mail, i have seen some reviewers say it scratches the back of your switch so i think I'm going to try and leave the sticker on, on the inside since it would provide some cover from the rough back pattern which i suspect is what is scratching the switch, and with the switch in there i won't see the sticker anyways
i preordered one and its really good
Crazy that the switch oled it the only 7 inch oled gaming device on the market even after all this time. Are oleds that difficult to come by?
I don’t think you see many OLED screens that size. I think that is partly how Nintendo justified the price increase.
Most of the other players in the current handheld space using OLEDs rn can't afford the tooling for a custom display like Nintendo can
I have the persona 3 one ordered. Super excited about it!!
I'd still just keep the satisfy grip,
Being able to keep your original joycons makes it better. And I can always switch out for my cooler looking joycons when I want
That's a problem that it's not a full pass thru. Some games are really low volume on the switch even with headphones so I plug in a USB dac/amp to deal with those moments.
Just get the Retroflag one, it's got Gamecube sticks (still hall effect) and costs less.
Satisfye grips scratch systems, which is why they redesigned them. You always take that gamble with third party stuff I guess.
Please for the love of gaming can you do a setex thumbstick grip review, no one has a quality honest review yet
