It’s very likely that they’re expanding on the ALttP world. Death Mountain, the Deku Tree, and Gerudo Town were not in previous iterations of that world, which is a good sign that there’s a lot more to this world than we’ve seen thus far.
Technically Death mountain was, but in Japan Death Mountain was only in the Dark World. The Light World Death Mountain was Hebra. An in this version, the traditional "Death Mountain" from LTTP is snow covered. So its probably going to be called Hebra here.
Definitely LTTP world but expanded.
yeah, the map looks pretty darn big as well so I’m sure there’s a bunch of other new landmarks as well
I LOST it when I saw the Deku scrub business owner from Majora's Mask. WHAT?! Never even really think about that character so it shook me.
Fun fact: A Great Deku Tree-like character was originally planned to appear in A Link to the Past, but was removed sometime during development. It was discovered in the gigaleak.
Indeed! I covered that leak extensively back when I did work on The GameOverJesse channel. Its wild how vastly different that game could have been
Woah the similarities are outstanding
can always depend on you for meticulous observation and top tier analysis
The timeline is connecting!🤗
Please stop
My guess is it's post LA and Oracles. Specifically same Link and Zelda. This game can be why Ganon is both alive and sealed by ALBW.
Post Oracles or pre-LTTP I think is where it falls. That said, maybe pre-LTTP could be better there, as it allows the snowy mountain to warm up and eventually become volcanic by LBW. But then again they often don't care about these subtle things.
It could be post-LBW to tie events to BOTW/TOTK, like having the Great Deku Tree above the Master Sword. However, we don't see the sword here, so maybe this is when it first gets placed there? Which also points to pre-LTTP... the knight of Hyrule in LTTP's backstory IIRC couldn't wield the Master Sword either? And Link doesn't have it here.
The volcano is NOT A link to the past Death mountain. A link to the past Death mountain is the snowy mountain to the right.
There’s no snowy mountain in ALTTP, but I do agree that the more blocky, snowy looking mountain in this trailer lines up with where ALTTP’s death mountain is.
Also, like… are you okay? Are you always super argumentative?
@@CaptBurgerson A link to the past Death mountain was somewhat active in A link to the past which would make it not have snow. Also I am not super argumentative I can see why I might sound like I am. I just don't like being redundant so I only comment when I feel that my comment has value which does make me sound mostly negative because usually I'm pointing out flaws.
Also it bugs me when people make obvious map related mistakes.
You can't look at the big cone-volcano and say it isn't at least meant to evoke Death Mountain as depicted in OOT onward though. And that volcano was not in ALTTP. That is what I was getting at in the video. It isn't an "obvious map mistake", it is clearly what the visuals are alluding to.
And when I talk about you being argumentative, I don't mean this comment. I mean literally every comment you've left across more than 20 of my videos lol
Like, I appreciate the viewership and that you are engaging with the content, but you really seem irritated all the time
@@CaptBurgerson Actually, the Japanese version of Light World Death Mountain was called Hebra. Interesting how they're making it snowy now.
Death Mountain in LTTP was not snowy, but it also wasn't volcanic either. I like how they're mixing it up here. LBW made it volcanic, but this game does the opposite and puts a new Death Mountain on the other side of the map, making this a flipped version of how BOTW/TOTK works, with the Lost Woods still between the mountains, but the mountains are flipped.
This allows them to keep the design of the LTTP world map, but still adding OOT style Death Mountain.
@@CaptBurgerson Oh ok you didn't convey that point very well in the video. As for your second point I thought that was the case I was talking about my comments across UA-cam as a whole.
i hope we get to play as Link in whatever purple world he is in
Well, yeah. This is the Link's Awakening Remake art style. Canonically, the Link in Link's Awakening is Link from ALTTP. If this is another entry in Link's Awakening series like the Oracle Series, then this can't be a different Hyrule.
“Well, yeah.” Is a super flippant reply considering your only argument is that because the game was built in the same engine as another (a remake, btw) then the games must be directly related. It’s fun to speculate and draw conclusions. You don’t need to diminish someone else’s idea because you think it’s obvious.
it reminds me of the cadence of hyrule map which added some more areas to the lttp map
It looks like this game pretty much starts out the same way as SotN and I'm all for it. Here's hoping beating the game unlocks "Link mode"
The sword that Lake is holding in the intro, sequence looks different than the sword on the box art
My guess is it's an expanded version of the map from ALBW and TOTK that takes place a while after since it has a castle town
I initially thought the same but that Deku Tree and Death Mountain made me think it’s another new Hyrule with echoes from lots of games.
Honestly, it'd be cool to see this same (or similar) map in 3 totally different styles! Between the three games, they're all so different and that alone will allow it to feel super diverse, but with nostalgic familiarity! :D
Absolutely! And even with the similarities, we’re going to have to tackle every obstacle in a different way than we did in those two games, so it’ll still be fresh imho
Can’t wait for September to roll around honestly
Hah! I just watched your Direct reaction and left a comment to exactly this effect 😆
I did notice the wierd rocks to the east of the castle.
I'm not sure what to make of this map yet.
It's definitely based on the Zelda 3 map, but it feels scaled up a bit with some queues taken from the more recent maps, like splitting up the mountains in the north into Death Mountain and Hebra(?)/Lanayru(?).
The location of Death Mountain, though, to the northwest of Hyrule Castle.
I love it, I think that as well, they expanded on ALttP's world. It should be the same Link, because it's the same as in ALttP, Link's Awakening and Oracles.
I think this game isn’t featuring the hero of legend I think this is in the downfall timeline since theres nothing to point it to any other timelines. Maybe it’s trying to connect botw/totk to the rest of the timeline with the zora but there’s so many directions this game could go in for the story
Well, that does track with the rumored LttP remake we’d been hearing about
Except we already know we are playing as Zelda, so it's clearly something else
ALBW began development as a remake of ALTTP before it spiralled into its own thing. I think what they were alluding to is that it's possible the same thing happened here
@@CaptBurgerson Ok maybe I can see that happening. But it would be weird they keep trying to remake ALttP only to make something else twice.
I sure hope this is not a cheap, quickly made project with an outdated map. You guys are starting to make me worry D:
Na nothing to worry about imho. They showed so much new stuff that wasn’t in ALTTP, including several towns
Zero worries, zero concerns. Zelda has a long track record of turning remakes into new games, and they tend to be really good.
I reckon they built ALttP's map in this engine for a potential remake not long after LA-Remake and then got freaky with it. LOVE the idea of expanding beyond the borders of ALttP's region, but in the Deku Salesman shot we see that Death Mountain (well, the volacnoey not-ALttp one) is like riiiight behind Kakariko (assuming Kakariko w the windmill). With the Zoras and Deku Tree too perhaps these new rifts are mashing two worlds together not in a Light World VS Dark World way but more of a mix up? The Zora meeting really has sold me on this and I love the thought of all these races and characters forced to live together and figure it out instead of just a oh yeah there's evil shit in the underworld.
Also, the other person in the shiekah/scientist/fisherman's house is absolutely the Loyal Sage from ALttP but younger!! I SWEAR!!
And the North Eastern ALTTP Death Mtn here is snowcapped like it has only been in ALBW's Dark World I believe.
Ginny spotted
If you look into the purple voids that Ganons spear summoned, you can see chunks of landmasses floating around. Maybe this is going to have chunks of other 2d Zeldas incorporated, while using the original ALTTP as a central hub? (I know how much you like central hubs lmao)
It’s beautiful!
What the - nice catch man
Four Swords Adventures has lots of LttP-esque locations bit was in the Child timeline, maybe this could be inbetween TP and FSA or somewhere post-FSA, considering Gerudo were shown in the trailer
According to the lore of Four swords adventures Four swords adventures takes place as a direct sequel to Four swords and NOT on the child timeline.
@@darkdagger5237 official timeline says otherwise, also literally impossible as a direct sequel since FS takes place well before OoT while FSA has Ganon in it, and OoT was his first chronological appearance
@@paulgrotebeverborg1119 First of all check out the Insane history of the Zelda timeline video and then tell me "official timeline says otherwise" with a strait face. Second Four swords adventures literally states at the start of the game that Hyrule was at peace ever since the defeat of Vatii therefore no games taking place in Hyrule can happen between those two games.
Third Four swords therefore cannot take place before Ocarina of time and is also incompatible with the good ending of Minish cap as that involved killing Vatii instead of sealing him.
@@darkdagger5237 Yeah the official timeline is really not good lol. FSA was clearly designed with the idea in mind of being between FS and LTTP. The "official timeline" actually screws up FSA's lore.
@@JaidynReiman My thoughts exactly. I would even go as far as to say that Minish cap was designed to link the fallen timeline to the main timeline via the split ending. This would make Minish cap both a prequel for Four swords AND Ocarina of time.
I just remembered that LttP’s light world map doesn’t have Death Mountain-it has Mt Hebra. Death Mountain is in the dark world. Seeing both is cool-I wonder how they’re gonna tie it all together 😊
Edit - pretty sure this is post LttP, but pre LBW, because there’s no House of Gales there, just the cave with the Pond of Happiness
We see a volcanic mountain, clearly to the northwest of Skull Woods, beyond the boundaries of the Link to the Past map. We *also* see the Link to the Past Death Mountain region, to the north of Hyrule Castle. Which will actually be called "Death Mountain" in the new game? Well... Who knows what Nintendo is going to do to their continuity at this point? But there's no reason why this new "Death Mountain" (maybe) region has to be seen as a contradiction, anyhow. It definitely looks more like an expansion. I think this game will be, by far, the largest 2D Zelda game ever, making the original Link to the Past map a fraction, certainly less than half of the new map, possibly a great deal less.
Literally nobody missed this detail! The one thing that most people are missing however, is the fact that there is a frozen region and a Gerudo territory much like in Four Swords Adventures. Basically, really the fact that this sort of Hyrule appearance isn't actually exclusive to the Downfall Timeline as this same sort of Hyrule also exists in the Child Timeline with the placement FSA being in the Child Timeline. It's been over a decade since Hyrule Historia released and a lot of people still haven't grasped the fact that Hyrule looking like it does in one or two games doesn't mean it's in the same timeline and artstyle literally means nothing in timeline placement also. If we're going the logic fans' pure assumption, the timeline would be an even bigger confusing mess when it comes to lore than it already is when it comes to artstyle and geography.
We know that not all Toon Links are the same Link. If they were, then we'd have WW, PH, ST, MC, FS, FSA, and TFH all taking place in the same timeline, in the same era. Which would make no sense at all since Hyrule is flooded and gets washed away in WW, ST takes place in a whole new Hyrule, and the Four Swords Trilogy all take place in the old Hyrule, with two of them being pre Ganon. And SS Link, TP Link, and BotW/TotK Link are obviously not the same Link either because that'd also cause serious continuity issues for obvious reasons. Same goes for the classic Retro style Link.
Just because Link looks the same or similar as in another game, or that Hyrule also looks the same as in another game, doesn't mean that it's the same Link or that it's the same timeline. Inevitability is nothing new in the split timeline of Zelda. We've seen Ganon return after OoT's era in all three timelines. And let's not forget that the Hyrule of the Child Timeline is the same Hyrule of the Downfall Timeline as they're the same Hyrule from OoT. It's all still the same Old Hyrule, but with changes due to time. So it's likely that the changes to Hyrule's geography that occurred in the Downfall Timeline are inevitable even in the Child Timeline. As already proven by Four Swords Adventures.
That all said, there's no reason not to think that maybe EoW could potentially take place in the Child Timeline. Especially when there's two mountains in this game's overworld instead of one. The only other game with this kind of Hyrule to have a second mountain at all is Four Swords Adventures. Which is in the Child Timeline.
Maybe sometime after FSA, Hyrule started to look more and more like the Hyrule from ALttP overtime. This game could easily be set like thousands of years after FSA. Hence why it's Hyrule is so much more closer to ALttP's Hyrule now than in FSA. It's also important to note that Kakariko in this game is not the same exact one from ALttP and ALBW, or even FSA. Not in appearance anyways. Similar location but looks more like the one from OoT, but for obvious reasons isn't the same one from OoT. And given how close it is to Death Mountain, I'd say it reminds me more of TP's Kakariko but with the OoT like vibe.
The placement of the two mountains does seem to suggest that maybe this overworld is the Drablands from TFH founded into a version of the traditional Hyrule. Implying that this game might be set after TFH, before Zelda 1. However, there are also so many hints pointing towards to the Child Timeline through various CT references and nods that just simply can not be ignored.
I have I strong feeling that this is really just gonna be another "it can go anywhere at/towards the end of any timeline" thing with how many references numerous other games there are here. Including BotW and TotK. For all we know, this game could easily end being after even that of BotW and TotK in an even further future of some kind, somehow. We don't know. It's still too early to call, imo, at least for majority judgement. I mean, I'm personally leaning towards after FSA. But we'd have to wait until we see more to really judge what Hyrule, era, timeline or whatever this actually is.
Great Eyes, @CaptBurgerson! I didn't Even Notice That Until Now...Very Interesting Indeed!!! 💪😄👍
No way we’re gonna have two games in AlttP maps in a row 💀
lol wdym? The last time we had this map was eleven years ago in ALBW
@@CaptBurgerson Yeah which was the last original SP 2D Zelda
@@mrwho995what's SP?
@MarshallTheArtist Single Player I believe.
@@mrwho995 I forgot that breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom were hallucinations of mine that never happened lmao
they cant even make a unique hyrule anymore
That is not the message I was trying to convey here.
I don’t think it’s going to be exactly 1 to 1, just that they’re using something familiar as a foundation and then greatly expanding upon that. There’s a ton of new stuff shown in the trailer that wasn’t in ALTTP/ALBW. Plus it’s still clearly all built from the ground up.
It is frankly irritating that people are twisting what I’m saying into something negative when I was just shining a light on familiar elements that I found exciting
It would have to be down fall timeline since link was fighting ganon in the beginning right?
Not necessarily, like they could slide Ganon in wherever they want to. But it DEFINITELY has the most in common with the games in that timeline
I haven't played A Link to the Past or A Link Between Worlds, but I'm really interested to see what they do with this. Will it continue those games directly? Will it be an alternate version of ALttP? How will they remix the map?
The Echo mechanic looks pretty cool, but from what we saw in the trailer, I'm so scared the game will handle selecting Echos the same way Tears of the Kingdom handled selecting materials. It was a big enough issue in that game, but I feel like it would completely ruin this game given how much more mandatory engaging with that system seems.
i wonder if that mountain in the east is hebra.
I'm so glad Nintendo will continue to do new 2D Zelda 😊
Old zora and new zora too!! Maybe time travel is a part of this game?
I will never understand why time travel is always the first thing Zelda fans think of when a new game is announced…
They exist in the same time period(s) in Oracle of Ages.
@@chris_wizzudz ehem ehem, because it was in, ocarina of time, majora's mask, twillight princess, skyward sword, tears of the kingdom and a bunch of 2d games
This game is another Mario Dream, don't say I didn't warn ya!
Zelda, beyond!
Not rererewatching?
I'll be doing that soon lol
@@CaptBurgerson GREAT🫡
Wait I think you may be onto something
🎉🎉🎉 Zelda!
I mean it sorta looks like botw/totk world with death mountain the snow peaks the castle in the middle and the deku tree and what looks like a pedestal infront of it for the master sword its very reminiscent of the world of botw but there is certain things that dosent make sense like death mountain being to the left instead of the right
You’re right. Though I always felt that the world of BOTW has a lot in common with ALTTP’s version of Hyrule
I noticed this but wished it away.
I would absolutely HATE it if they did this. A Link Between Worlds already reused the ALTTP map, then we had TOTK reusing the BOTW map, and now the ALLTP map will be copied again in the very next 2D game following ALBW? That would absolutely suck. A huge part of the Zelda experience is exploration. Reusing maps almost completely ruins exploration.
My guess/hope is that the map will be loosely inspired by ALTTP but not much beyond that.
It doesn’t look 1:1, more like they used ALTTP as a template and then have greatly expanded upon / remixed that. As stated in the video there’s a lot shown here that wasn’t in ALTTP
Its the rough design of LTTP's map but heavily updated. We have Castle Town (LTTP just had the courtyard), Kakariko is still back, Gerudo are here. LTTP's old "Death Mountain" is now more like Hebra with it being snowy, and there's a brand new mountain in the north west that's Death Mountain proper.
There might be more in the east we can't see as well.
Definitely looks like a direct sequel to ALTTP
I'm leaning more towards this taking place a few hundred years after TotK. The overall designs seem to draw mostly from BotW, unless it's creatures like Deku Scrubs that weren't in BotW or TotK. The friendly Zora look more like their most recent design rather than the ones from OoT or TP. The Hyrulian soldiers have identical armor to the ones in BotW. Most importantly, the Sheikah look exactly like they did in BotW. There is even a character that looks suspiciously like Robbie in what appears to be some sort of lab or workshop. The sole exception to this is the Great Deku Tree, who looks just like the one in OoT, which throws an admittedly huge wrench in that theory.
BOTW references every prior game in the series as well. This world is clearly the LTTP world though. They're drawing inspiration from many games which is why we see nods to BOTW Sheikah, but we also get classic "thief" Gerudo, Downfall Timeline "River" Zora _and_ Sea Zora, and also Deku Scrubs (which weren't in BOTW/TOTK either).
The Great Deku Tree looks like OOT but its clearly got the "starting point" of the idea of the Master Sword being beneath the Great Deku Tree, even though we don't see the sword here. Link isn't wielding the sword either, it appears to be the White Sword.
They're getting a lot of milage out of this map
Mixed with this beautiful BOTW call back 😍
to complain, because I must: it’s the same art style as the _Link’s Awakening_ remake… sigh. I didn’t really like it then, and it doesn’t look much better now. it’s just _too shiny._ the world layout looks less rigid though, and Zelda’s movement looks better than Link’s, like they added transition frames when changing direction, etc, so that’s an improvement 👍
and having Zelda herself as the protagonist is cool, I guess… but I’m not sure how I feel about the “echo” mechanic. it seems like it could get old and tedious after a while, especially scrolling through the menu to find the specific item you want to echo, like some of the menus in _TOTK…_ and I hope Link shows back up at some point in the game to be a co-protagonist, or else Zelda just gets her own sword 🤷🏻♂️
The menu scrolling is the one single thing I'm not looking forward to lol
Otherwise I think it looks great! Plus if you take a look at the notably barren d-pad mapping on the HUD, it looks like to me that the echo ability is only one mechanic, and there is more that they simply haven't shown us
@@CaptBurgerson - it _is_ very exciting to get a new game (though I still want _WW_ and _TP_ HD for Switch), but hope they strike a good balance between new gameplay and the “classic” feel of older games. the dungeon-y areas look promising 👍
A brand new Zelda game with a fresh take on gameplay was revealed just a few hours ago and you have this much negativity to add to the conversation? Good god this fandom is relentless.

Stop trying to fit these games into a timeline. There IS NO TIMELINE. Not really. There are multiple parallel universes each with a single Zelda universe represented by 1-2 games. Nintendo does not consider a timeline when they make these games, therefore there is no timeline. There are only snapshots of multiple Hyrules (and others) and the games are our windows into those universes.
I desperately want there to be a timeline, but there just isn't. The one we all look to when a new game comes out was created by fans and printed in a book. It is not in Nintendo's mind when they create Zelda games, and it never has been.
I view the timeline as something of a fun puzzle that is neat to think about, but is ultimately a second priority to the game being good in and of itself. But no I won’t stop, because it’s fun to speculate about. It won’t harm how I feel about the game later on though. But saying it isn’t real is willful ignorance. It may be an afterthought but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
Take your attitude elsewhere, don’t tell me what to do please and thanks.
Hyrule Historia and The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia both have timelines and I've heard that apparently Master Works will also have a timeline. These are official works from Nintendo, so yes there is an official timeline. There may not have been much thought put into it, but still there.
I just became so much less excited
