I finally tried small batch. First sip and it was a keeper. One on the repurchase list for me.
Uncorked this and didn't care for it much, but after a month of leaving the bottle open for a few hours here and there, it really got better. This has the 1st chocolate note I've ever gotten. I'm glad because it was $65 which is the most I've ever paid for a bourbon.
I'm really excited about this release, can't wait until it makes its way to Ohio! Great video as usual!!!

Wow. I’ve only been drinking bourbon for almost a year and my tasting notes were nearly identical to you guys, pre-water tasting. Lots of spice all over the tongue for sure! It was nice to finally have access to a bourbon reviewed available in California. I can’t imagine the frustration our Canadian friends and others globally have when stuff just isn’t available outside Kentucky. Got lucky with this release.

Great review! Finally found me a bottle today. Been buying Small Batch and Single Barrel for years. Good price point on this one only $56 which is nice b/c when it first hit the market here I was told $120. IMO four roses is one of the best widely available quality bourbons. Cheers!

So I was trying Small Batch Select for the first time while watching this video, and you're right about the spice. I mean it hits you like a slap in the mouth! After a moment I did get the peaches, but to me it reminds me of a peach cobbler that someone dropped the cinnamon container into and then served it without telling anyone. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty damn good... but the spice is just a little distracting. I popped open the regular Small Batch and tried it after the Select , and it was just pure peach cobbler to me. I dunno which is better, I guess it just depends what you're in the mood for, but the Select is definitely a occasional sipper while regular Small Batch is a little easier of a drinker with still decent amounts of flavor.
Absolutely love this release, got a lot of the same things I'm my review that each of you did. I didn't pick up really any mint on the nose or palate for me. Great vide once again! Cheers

Just bought a bottle of this and had it last night, and naturally I had to come see what ya'll had said about it again.. BOOM with the spice! I actually got hit with the spice right in the throat on one of my.. more... aggressive... sips, and it was like... WOW can I just breathe please. lol. however, aside from that.. a really interesting bourbon for sure. I get some fruit, a good amount of tannin, but pleasant enough, and again a nice rich finish. I think thats what I like the most about bourbon, is that rich finish, and the more the proof goes up, the more that seems to go up. Guess Im chasing the numbers now, but, ill own it :)

On the nose I get a chocolate malt ball like whoppers and on the palate a mint chocolate flavor...and that exceptional mouth feel 🙂

First time here, she's very pretty so you get ten points right away. I like your presentation and your detail. I'm a scotch drinker for to many years to count nor want to but a few months ago decide to brach out to Bourbon. I learned a lot from you about Four Roses this time. I have two bottles in my bar now, A single Barrel and a Single Batch, now I know what it all means. I just subscribed and liked.
I saw this one today for $60 and almost bought it... You guys have twisted my arm, I'll pick it up this weekend.
Just picked some up couple weeks ago. Taste so good. Was disappointed in the smell. I feel like the regular knob creek i also got had a more complex fun smell

$49 at Costco in Los Angeles area. The one near me is on sale for $40. Most markets and liqueur stores its at mid 50s to $70.

I know I’m going get some heat for this but my buddy and I did a blind comparison of this against Blanton’s yesterday and we both agreed the Four Roses was the winner.

They are pretty much the same MSRP. Either one could win, depending on your personal preference.
I have every bottle of Four Roses, and they're all really really good, but very spicy. For sure one of the more spicy brands, other than maybe Wild Turkey. I don't actually taste a huge difference between all of them, they're pretty consistent overall. The best one though to my mouth is the Single Batch, with that said though it's really not that different than the $18 bottle, so if you're looking for a good deal don't pass up the cheaper option, it's still excellent despite being a little more watered down. Of any brand I've ever had, this line is the most consistent throughout, the top stuff really is not THAT different than the lower shelf stuff.
opened a bottle tonight and first sniff was full on cherries. Hadn't got that before but for some reason that's what I got on the nose tonight.
I hope this one will also be available in Germany. In the meantime I have to drink the Yellow Label. Cheers Chad and Sara!
My girlfriend is german and sometime soon I'll be moving to be with her, not being able to get as many varieties of bourbon is something I was concerned with, but as long as i can get classics like four roses I'll be fine :D

Ur videos are nice! I'm very glad I discovered ur channel. Question. I bought the Suntory Hibiki Harmony as my first bottle ever, but it was too strong for my taste and simply nasty in my opinion. Is bourbon sweeter? Do you know a good Caramel Honey Butter yum yum bourbon? Price maybe under 100 $. God bless u.

Once on a trip in a hotel I accidentally began brushing my teeth with a mini tube of icy hot because I didn’t have my contacts in and ... /scene.
I hear the Select needs time after opening. So I wonder how the two would compare after the both have been open for similar amount of time.

I opened a bottle of this today, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Spicier than any other four Roses I've had. I may prefer the single barrel OBSV by just a tad. The honey note I get with that is decadent in my opinion. It's always bourbon night in my household 👍
Edit: apparently this is a yearly release? If so, I will definitely be purchasing on a yearly basis.

I really thought their next one was going to be a Rye. Not sure I understand this one's market spot, it's so similar to single barrel in price and maybe even profile. I had them side by side at the distillery, I remember getting spearmint on mine. I guess it appeals to small batch non chill fans. =/

With Four Roses specifically, I don't know, I haven't been drinking the regular single barrel much lately, but for small batch vs. single barrels in general, yes I think the small batch usually has more consistency.
Just cracked a bottle of this and had it with chocolate chip cookies....delicious.

Four Roses Small Batch Select
In the hand:
Inviting, medium-tobacco, almost sweet
Nose:
Light fruit, light ethanol, light orange zest, stronger (medium-light) ethanol, very light southern sweet tea, light oak, light tobacco, sweet tobacco, light sweet tea
Palette:
Spice, heat rush and fall, lightly creamy, oak, bitter, bitter tobacco, medium finish
Super great on the nose: 8/10; not so great on the palette: 5/10. I would be content at $35 for one bottle, (paid 60) but even at nearly half price I would still not buy again. Freshly opened, but we'll see how it is after time. I wouldn't recommend it at the price I paid.
What would you recommend for the 60 dollar price point

Just my two cents, but I found thistles bourbon too spicy to enjoy neat. I had to add water to tone down the heat and get the flavors. Sara hits the nail on the head in describing what is not necessarily a mint flavor, but a cool, minty style mouthfeel. Had there actually been a mint flavor, I would've been put off by this bourbon, as I absolutely hate mint.
On the nose all i get is alcohol with a little something, and on the taste all i get is alcohol with maybe a little something else. I have a hard time enjoying anything above 10% abv =(
I was very disappointed with this. It’s very spicy! The more I drink bourbon the more I realize I’m not a fan of rye and the spice that comes with it. The spice seems to cover up some of the other flavors that I prefer.
