It’s amazing to see how much Trenton has become so comfortable on camera. I remember when he first started on camera; he was SO uncomfortable!!! As for Four Roses, I am a “four roses guy”. Good stuff.
Cheers guys! Yall have an awesome relationship as well. I dont mention what im about to say to gain sympathy but, my father passed when i was 19. Im 37 now. Id give anything to have that relationship as grown men. I say enjoy every moment fellas. We are all truly blessed. Cheers!
Appreciate your words of encouragement! My dad passed to early as well at the age of 62. I was able to work with him for quite a few yrs though before that. Most folks don’t realize what they have until it’s gone. God bless you buddy
I have had Four Roses small batch select when I thought it was really good, and other times I didn't think it was that great. My favorite is the Four Roses single barrel. Blinds are fun to watch but hard to do.
Thanks for being great teachers to a bourbon newb! I’ve been a makers 46 drinker my entire life, and our family bourbon is four roses. Have recently found my way into bourbon after visiting the trail in fall 2023, and thoroughly enjoy your channel! 🍻
4 Roses single barrel and small batch select are both hitters for me . Drinking in a blind is not as important as sitting down sipping a glass and enjoying it.🥃👍
I've never had any of those other then the small batch select, which I think is great. And also the single barrel is great. Those are two of my favorites and I've probably tried 100 different bourbons.
Awesome job, Matt! Keep it up. We’re all rooting for ya! And thanks for the countless hours of entertainment and information you provide with your videos!
I really enjoy 4🌹SBS. I just opened a new bottle the other day. I like their product in general though. I have a single barrel and the 2022 LE and like those both as well.
My only experience with spirits of french lick is a william dalton pick that the Scotchy Bourbon Boys picked. It was delicious. Buttered bread, chocolate, and bakery cinnamon rolls with icing. The nose smelled like walking into a bakery that had just made fresh bread. I really enjoyed it. That being said I had a different experience every time I had a pour. Sometimes I got one note sometimes I got another and some days it was very complex. It's a true testament to how you can perceive things completely different from one day to another.
First KVT episode I have watched and loved it. So glad you had Jos in there as I recently purchased one and have not yet opened it. Super excited to try it now. Great content as always!
I had 4R small batch select last night thought it was just okay, then went to 4R single barrel big good difference! Oh and around me the only thing named Sinclair is a paint store:)
13:20 Four Roses Small Batch Select was the first bourbon I tried (other than Jack Daniels my entire life) and I did not like it. My stomach hurts every time someone mentions Four Roses. So I am not surprised it was not one of the favorites in the group. Now I've tried a lot of bourbons, have not gone back to Four Roses, but am considering it... My taste preference may have changed since then. I see a lot of people say it is sometimes good sometimes bad so it may be the bottle I had was not a good batch?
Four Roses came in second only to Blanton's in a blind taste test involving 5 good bourbons. It's probably the best bang for your buck, after Wild Turkey 101.
Now this was interesting. I ordered a single barrel 4 roses barrel proof (didn't say the recipe) at a restaurant and I got the same notes you got...nothing. I almost asked to see the bottle because I was convinced it was the small batch select but haven't had it enough to be sure.
I definitely can confirm what they said about Sinclair. I bought a bottle for "bottled in bond day" and upon cracking it was pretty decent. I put it away for a couple months, went back and it was just nasty to me. It definitely does not "age" well. I ended up giving it away to someone who drinks a lot of cocktails.
Love the Content! Small suggestion, if Trenton picks 15 bottles to choose 3 from maybe Kurt can view those 15 bottles too? Or maybe he would rather not so he’s not tempted to guess more😅. Keep up the great work!
Agreed!! We should both do the picking. I would not have chosen the finished bottles but that’s just me. In all fairness I was running late and Trent had a scheduled appointment to get to.
@@slbdrinks No worries just looking out for you 😉 Easier to guess a bottle if you know the options vs thinking about all the bottles you have or have forgotten you have in your inventory
Great show as always guys! Four Roses is Hit or Miss with me. Michelle and I don't even like Pizza! Yikes...someone might need a hug? What are the odds that Trenton would land a woman who didn't like pizza, just like his Mom? LOL Heck, I don't even know 2 people in my lifetime who made that claim, and I'm 53, haha! Keep up the awesome content; I'm learning great info with each show!
What kind of pizza are you guys having tonight for live stream? If you guys are from northwest Indiana, my dads family grew up in the Monticello/Plymouth area. Are you guys enjoying Pizza King or Arni's pizza on the regular during live streams? That's my absolute favorite pizza!!
do you and Trent pour the left over into a blend bottle? If not maybe you should take the left overs and create 2 different blend bottles, when their full do a tasting!
We do pour them in an infinity bottle but I like your idea! We gave away what we had so starting from scratch here so hopefully in a couple months you will see this show!
You guys ever considered doing a review of bourbon barrel aged beers? I got into bba beer before actually getting into bourbon. The first time I tried Willett I was oh like the beer willettized 😂
I was about to buy four roses small batch select after watching your videos, "is four roses worth the money" and "our 10 favorite bourbons right now." But after this video, I am second-guessing if its worth the money. Crazy how much you guys liked four roses SBS nose and taste in the other videos and then got absolutely nothing on this one.
@@slbdrinks I'm trying to decide on my next bourbon purchase. OF 1910 or Old Elk Wheated Bourbon. I know you both really enjoyed those. Going on vacation and need to bring a nice one. Haven't had either.
For some reason, Four Roses has never really appealed to me either. The last couple bottles of the single barrel I bought were both mediocre and the cork broke off on both of them. I have small batch select which is okay, but nothing I would work hard to replace. Old Forester is another that just really doesn't do it for me either, although I have a single barrel, barrel proof that is really good.
I enjoyed the show, but you should put the picture of each bottle up for the audience so that we can see the tasting notes and compare them to the actual bottle. Otherwise, your tasting notes are completely meaningless.
Sounds like Trenton has lived in subconscious guilt, knowing he SHOULD have had his mouth washed out with soap. Quick Story: at the Catholic high school I attended, if you cussed in front of a certain longtime teacher (retired recently after 50 years or so), he would present you an assortment of bar soaps and you got to pick one and then take a bite of it. Now THAT is something schools need more of today!! 👍💪
I always have 4 roses single barrel in stock at home. Bought small batch select on vacation last month and felt just like you guys did. Not a ton of flavor and just good, not great.
At the start of the video Trenton indicated there were no finished whiskeys, yet you had two among the four - strange. Perhaps four blended bourbons would have made for a better comparison. Btw, I enjoy your content very much!
This is not surprising. Kurt and Trenton always try to claim they like Wild Turkey and Four Roses, but either consistently comes in last whenever they put them in blinds. If you want to understand their preferences, just give them the youngest, wheated bourbon you can find, and they'll sing its praises for longer than you can pay attention. Definitely don't give them a high rye bourbon. They can't handle it.
Not really understanding your comment. Trent has always said he is not a fan of 4 roses however he does love a wheated bourbon. I do like both. I do enjoy quite a few high rye bourbons as well. I have forever talked about ogd. Whiskey is very subjective and that’s what makes it fun!
It’s amazing to see how much Trenton has become so comfortable on camera. I remember when he first started on camera; he was SO uncomfortable!!! As for Four Roses, I am a “four roses guy”. Good stuff.
Agreed! Thanks Alan!
It hurts my heart when someone says, "I'm not a Four Roses Guy." 😥💔
Same, their whole line is so good
I'm really not a fan of their flavor profile. I will continue to try it and maybe acquire a taste for it but so far it's good just not my favorite.
Small batch select is a recurring buy for me. Damn good bourbon.
I love four roses single barrel!
Yeah they are a staple in my cabinet.
The 4🌹 SiB is still one of my all-time favs. Everything a bourbon should be imho.

I've only had Evan Williams 12 year once, but I was *blown away* by it. I wish I could snag a bottle.
Well apparently the Magnus triple cask tastes like it?
I have had Four Roses small batch select when I thought it was really good, and other times I didn't think it was that great. My favorite is the Four Roses single barrel. Blinds are fun to watch but hard to do.

I grabbed Starlight double Oaked total wine pick on a whim when in Indy a few weeks ago. It was fantastic! My favorite of my haul.
picked up a Starlight store select yesterday finished in PX sherry barrels, veryyyy smooth great taste on it.
I like 4RSBS a lot.. one of the only bourbons that I get a chocolate note from. To each his own
It’s been a minute since I’ve dabbled in Four Roses, but I’ve always been a fan of the single barrel
Soap in the mouth 😂😂 I honestly like the small batch more than the SBS!
Trent's facial expressions! 😂
HOLY MAPLE MAY I !!!!!!
One saving grace of tonight's live stream, Everyone will guess Four Roses. 🤣

I just picked up that Joesph Magnus about a week ago and haven't cracked it yet. Now I'm motivated to get into it!
7:35 that's some rank oak, bro.....LOL - awesome
I think we need to have a curve like we had in college grades and give Kurt some points and make this 5-7 😂
Yessssss!! Lol
Trenton "taste like a butterscotch candy that's been in grandma's purse since 1982 and covered in dry wall paste"
Great episode, looking forward to tonight!!!
Let’s go! Ready for this one!
I just bought my second bottle of Four Roses Select yesterday and much prefer that to the single barrel

Possible. I have had that happen before.
I really like the 4R small batch select and the Single Barrel. Tastes a little different than my core stuff.
so fun! cheers
I think it’s great that Trenton refers to everything from what he ate as a kid,or are you eating soap, pencils and gum from under the table now?! Lol😂
He definitely aims for the stars when it comes to unique tasting notes. 😂
I love starlight
Just glad 4RSBS wasn’t D. I have Starlight on my list to try. Great video
currently drinkin a four roses old fashioned
On the board first 🥇🥇
Winner! Winner! Winner!
Four Roses came in second only to Blanton's in a blind taste test involving 5 good bourbons. It's probably the best bang for your buck, after Wild Turkey 101.
Is there a difference between four roses single barrel brown label and tan label? Not barrel strength just single barrel
Small Batch Select is a great bottle.
Blinds are the best approach. Woundering if I should date my bottles when I open them to check for flavor decay over time.
I personally never see a difference until it is at a low level in the bottle. Once there I transfer the bourbon into a smaller bottle until finished.
Great review and interesting outcome. Small Batch Select was a miss for me. Much prefer the Single Barrel. Cheers!
Awesome
No one needs a Debbie Downer, Kurt! 😂😂 Better cheer up for tonight!
😂

Small batch is my favorite, single barrel is good too but I find it too big of a price jump for a slightly better bourbon in my opinion

What happened to Kurt’s point for the Hot Ones Wings?
Thank you!!!!!! Forgot that myself!
well done entertaining
Do you have any other March besides a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie on your UA-cam store?
For now but planning on some new items first of summer.
There is also hard and other items. Waiting on glencarin glasses to restock
50 ml sample bottles are available at some stores. Tried one, good but slightly disappointing.
Haha nothings “awry” don’t know if I was the only one that caught that right at the beginning. Haha

Heck ya!!
What is letter A. I didn’t hear what y’all said it was and I can’t read the bottle.
Starlight,,, Carl T Hubers double oaked. Personally never seen a bottle myself.

I get milk chocolate on that small batch select

Right???? I didn’t even know what had been picked. I demand a redo!
