Nice tutorial! But here's a little tip: instead of selecting the Nike-swoosh, creating a selection-tag, applying the material to the object and then adding the selection-tag to the material just drag the material onto the selected polys in the viewport. This automatically creates a selection-tag and applies the material to it. This can save a lot of time.

I really like the style youre doing tutorials, Sean. I believe even beginner can easily follow and you have a very design-oriented approach, eyeballing things and arguing how animation "feels". It might be worth to check out some of the functions cinema 4d has hidden, though. A seasoned C4D Trainer once told me how most c4d users dont know what the program has under its hood. In this case, I believe both the "reset psr" and the "connect and delete" function might have worked similar to how the "grab, connect, phong angle, collapse, delete null", but with one click. And quickly accessed with the "shift c" commandline or a custom shortcut. Just a thought, I found out how my students liked this kind of stuff since there are less steps to follow.

    nice stuff!
at around 30min mark, you can select the swoosh by just double clicking on it using the move tool, then just drop the gold material onto the selection in the VP and you will automaticly create a selection tag and a material tag set to that selection :) (its another way of useing the "select connected" (U~W) command)

The is really cool, a great way to quickly sell this effect to client. If you want it to look more polished, you almost have to do it manually in order to be able to art direction the animation more.

You could just select 1 poly on the Nike logo in poly mode and hit U, W. Since it was an individual piece to start with, it will just select it. Sweet tutorial!

Great technique. Thanks for sharing. Question: I did this effect but with a low-poly car for starters. It was too few pieces after combing. I went back to the original and decided to split each window as their own objects and their own materials. I even saved a selection for each window, but after going through the steps again, the glass remained as one object with the car body. What is the criteria for how many pieces the Connect Object "creates"?

Just subscribed to you channel. Looks like there’s load of really good C4D tutorials which I’m looking forward to watching and trying to follow along. I’m new to C4D and want to learn how to dynamically introduce models into a scene. Something similar to this tutorial but I don’t want to transition from one item to another. I want a model to pop into a scene in an organic fashion. Do you know or have any tutorials that maybe able to guide me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
