Imagine if Tool had trolled us by releasing this as the single before the album instead of fear inoculum.
Tobias Ziegler lmfaooo greatest troll ever
I actually had that fear back in August.
Instead of this troll, it was 100,000 Summer Nights with crickets.
They'd know who their true fans are.... So long as they really released the whole album later.
We would have still called it a genius track.
Imagine suggesting tool to a friend and this is the first song they choose

@@Kitty-hx2pr yup, Danny pretty much said so, that's why his synths and loops are having a field day. Should be a real treat to hear. I like how the whole album goes underwater, where "Descending" is actually the oceans rising and our Atlantis sinking. I've just listened to the entire Tool discography in chronological order but because I'm at work I only had my right ear bud in, now I gotta go back and listen to it all with just my left ear bud in.

Maynard is actually the weak link in the album. He holds back like with crappy new Perfect Circle because he is afraid he might blow his voice out live. The drummer makes this album and/or whoever dreamt up these wild rhythms, which sure as hell wasn't Maynard.

@@chrisrock219 and stinkfist
In my humble opinion.
This track, it's like a canary in a mineshaft.
However it's a mockingbird so the poison it detects is the fear in the person/people its mocking.
The Inoculum was in the first track getting (TOOL/us) ready.
The bird at the end was alerting everyone the fear/ poison is here, are you ready?
Of course in between they (the band's combination of creating music and Maynard translating it for us mortals) tell a tale of an old warrior. Telling people to wake up, remember. I am, and you are, not invincible. We are all one spirit. We need to sound the dread alarm, cull the voices and take a trip because the tempest is coming and will be just that.
Look up: Operation Mockingbird.

Mockingbeat is Love, Mockingbeat is Life.
Can I have my fkn bird back now Maynard?
My cats hate me right now..they're going from window to window trying to find those birds
Melissa the squirrel was mimicking the song before this... so crazy
Rumor has it Adam Jones has a pet bird he always took with them on tour, Maynard really hated this bird as it always kept him up all night.
One night Maynard got drunk on his own wine, got super pissed at the screeching bird and started choking the shit out of it with Adam Jones' own guitar strings, all while recording.
That's how this song came to be.
Anyone dissing any of the GREAT artist's that form this band should be extremely ashamed of themselves and should not in the least bit consider themselves a diehard TOOL fan, or even a fan at all!! For years Maynard, Adam, Danny, Justin, and Paul have all more then contributed to these inspirational, life-changing album's with a flood of blood, sweat, and tears!! @Joe Donahue I am 32 as of this past Monday. I apologize for my comment about anyone knocking Tool not being "diehard" TOOL fans. I was honestly directing the comment toward someone who had posted a comment a week earlier about Maynard's voice and how he was basically the ass-end of the band. And made some slick comment about how he sings with APC, compared to this new album. I started listening to Tool at age 11 in 98'. I have all their albums and know all their songs by heart, as is the same for APC and Puscifer. Tool changed my life when I was younger and they still help me get through today. I could be going through what seems to be the worst of times and just think of a Tool song and it helps me relax, although turning any Tool song on drowns all my sorrows and anxieties away almost instantly. They have done that for me all my life and will continue to do so for the rest of it. And for that I owe my gratitude and have and will do my best to keep them alive generation after generation!! I apologize if I offended anyone with my previous comment, concerning "diehard" fans!
I just listened to the entire thing straight in a dark room. Can recommend, the interludes are scary though
I think the interludes are ment to induce that uncomfortable feeling
This is obviously a troll song. It’s called MOCKINGbeat. Starts out crescendoing into what could be something super intense, and then suddenly “chirp chirp!”
it's also called that because that's the bird that's used for the song. it's a Northern Mockingbird. but i get the second usage, too. lol
LetsGetHighOnMorris it's a tool to use ( aka listen to) in nature as with the whole album

What a way to end this album. There were definitely words in here, but I couldn't make out what they said. I think it's important that this song follows 7empest. A song warning about an unavoidable storm, followed by sounds of nature. Thank you Tool for this great album. Was a pleasure to listen and react to it.

Holy fuck. I never thought of it that way before. If that’s the case this song is honestly very disturbing. Shows how nature always takes its course in the end. But knowing Tool, this was probably meant to be a happy ending.

Mockingbeat is the band's perspective on how we rabid fans sound to them complaining. Sure enough they made it the last song of the album. Ingeniously trollacious.
Damn, I wish this song went on for at least 10 minutes like most of their songs. Well, guess I have to listen to it on loop five times.

y’all can hate but this is the only song I’ve ever heard that conveys a certain type of insanity, the kind where you’re aware of yourself but not, choosing between Good and Evil in seemingly indistinguishable guises, knowing everything rests on your choice but with only a dimmed awareness to light the way

Reading the comments about this track I realize how many Tool "fans" haven't listened to any Tool albums before.
I was listening to all these songs the day they came out, very excited for my CD to arrive, but never reached the last two songs. Since the CD doesn't have the interlude tracks I never heard this song until now, nearly 3 years later. I was truly missing out on greatness and its absence from the physical release is criminal.

This is Maynard trolling everyone it has to be. Purposely ending the album with a giant piece of s*it knowing that so many tool fans will say it's genius and life changing
Purposely making shit music, what a genius!
No. This is more like his fuck you to the record industry. If he could fulfill his contract by making a record full of fart noises. I am sure he would do that. And his fan base would prolly buy that too. Gotta say. Lateralus, and his live album got me thru a lot of dark days. But this album is not my favorite.
@@123XZSADFRDESA This album fulfilled their contract, and, according to Danny, they still have more than an album's worth of material. They don't need a label contract, to produce a high quality album anymore. Should they choose to make another, and he wants to after touring a couple years, they will have the most freedom they've ever had doing so. That could get interesting.
I was about to go to bed, I guess not anymore!

The album is great, but let's be honest: Those "interludes" are just Tool trolling the streaming community, am i right...? ;D
One way to look at it
@@EliteNK ...really? What other use could they have in the context of the album...? Getting tripping listeners completely disoriented maybe? :P I don't think so. Really they don't seem to make ANY sense in there...
Plus: Why should a band like Tool give the listeners who download the album a more 'complete' experience...? Does that mean the content on their lovingly crafted physical release is 'incomplete'...? Doesn't make a 7-track tracklist more sense on an album that's thematically based round the number 7...?
All those questions... Think about it ;)
@@bungalowjoe634 I guess the incomplete argument manes sense
Interesting idea, but I'm not sure. Aenima had a couple of them ["(-) Ions" and "Intermission"] and Lateralus had a couple of interludes ("Eon Blue Apocalypse" and "Mantra"); Undertow had a strange beginning.
And as Tool JUST put their albums on Spotify this year (for the kids, I think), I'm not sure they even care about what's going on online. They're probably super busy doing more productive things.
@@ummon995 Yeah, you're right. But in the past, specifically on aenima, the interludes made sense in a way, they had "their story to tell". ('Intermission' made such a brilliant setup for Jimmy' for example, like how it contrasted it but brought that melody up... 'eon blue' also in a great way prepares for 'patient', plus: at least it has a melody and is played with a real instrument, unlike EACH of the 'Fear Inoculum'-interludes... :P)
Honestly, the new interludes would fit better on one of MY releases than on theirs lol...
