As a consumer most of my life and now as a true beginner, I say this with NO OFFENSE intended . coming into the research of candle making I’m stunned by how hard you all go for PERFECT A RESULTS. I swear I’ve never known anyone who bought candles to care about some of things you guys stress about safety is important so as a consumer yes, huge flames, soot, too hot of a candle to touch or move when lit, extremely tunneling, and yes I would say burning time and of course of above all we want to smell it but no one complains about flickering, frosting or small sink holes and none and I mean No one I’ve ever known in life has ever trimmed wicks before lighting and never has any issues. As a irresponsible candle lover I must say most candles I’ve used have all been great and that you guys shouldn’t stress so much cause as beginner all these details are stressing me out. 😂
Lol.
Maybe I misunderstood but did you say no one trims candles before lighting them? I trim wicks every time I light them not just the first time lol
Do shoe strings or yarn burn efficient or good like candle wicks. Can you use tree twigs for candle wick ???
Fully agree here. I haven’t even started yet and I’m so nervous now
@@meakimble8289 same lol.. all the acronyms too lol.
I appreciate that you are so open with all of the information you obtain and letting us know all of the things you encounter and being so transparent with everything. You are so wonderful and I am thankful for the content you are making💖
Abi Mota aww thank you so much!! I’m so appreciate that you watch my content! ❤️
So glad I found you, thank you for taking the time to help other xx
Thank you so very much for this video! This is the most helpful instructions that I have found thus far regarding wicks.
Thanks, Erica!!! You explained this topic sooooo well.. Keep up the good work!!! Ur the best!!
Oh My God! You saved my life ! I have been testing and testing and testing for the perfect wick & getting so stressed. Thank you so much for sharing. Lots of love from England
Thank you! This helped me so much trying to decide which wick I need to go for x
Thanks for such a detailed video! I've just started testing my wicks, WISH ME LUCK!!
I am such a candle noob so this is great for beginners and perfect to getting us started! This is a very informative video and I love how humble you are. Can’t wait to check out part 4 next 💪💪
Thank you for making this!!! I spent 3 hours yesterday tring to find out what wick I should buy and decided on wickwell p2 wicks.
Binge watching again...thank you Erica for all your info 😘
i have a jack russel too. they are so amazing. tyvm for this. i made candles for my first time yesterday and today. i have my first candle burning weeee. so amazing tyvm
I simply cant thank you enough for sharing your vids / you have been very informational/ and I have watched hundreds of vids but you have given way more info and I appreciate you sharing
That’s so awesome! That’s definitely the goal with my channel. Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thank you for your honesty. Great info!!
very detailed. thank you for sharing. a big help for us beginners
This is such a great video, Thankyou for this video!
Ty for posting this. I have these jars and I have not been able to find the correct wick. This helps!
This was awesome! Thank you! Everything you've described has happened to me and I have wanted to give up so many times. It not only requires a lot of your time and patience but can get pretty expensive too. You prob mentioned this but I think this is pretty universal at this point but eco wicks are best used with soy waxes. I use a soy blend myself and eco wicks don't do well in that wax, no matter the jar or FO. I have had better success with premier wicks and some zinc wicks but I'm still testing as I type and am basically trying to find that perfect burn that you described! Lol. It really helped to learn that a full melt pool by hr 3 is not necessarily a must. That made my night! Thanks again!
Just the information I was looking for! Thank you!
This makes SOOOO much sense now. I recycle my candles and t-lite candles because I just use so much and I hate to waste. I don't put perfumes or anything like that, just re use the wax at the ends and I re use the glass container that the candle was purchased in. I was wonder why I couldn't keep them lite, I had no idea about the gauge. THANK YOU!
First off. Thank you so much for this info since it pointed me on the right path. I needed a wick for a 3” jar witch I filled with leftover finished candle wax. Wicks, where troubling me and of course, not working. So, what I did with this guidance is using a roll of hemp wick, I twisted 3 layers together to bulk up the wick and voila, it’s been perfect. Figured I’d offer you this info. Thanks love, 👊🏼.
I just received your candle!! It smells amazing!! I’m a new candle maker. Thank you so much for all your videos🥰
Aw thank you!!! 🥰🤍🤍
I love how thoroughly you describe everything! ❤️ even the basics of basics. It’s so helpful.
Aw thank you so much I love hearing that! ☺️
Plz will you help me.... Why bubble candles break when trying to remove from the molds
Sorry for my poor english
This was so helpful
This was super dope I appreciate the info.
Great information and presented well!
Thank you so much for your valuable information. I have lost so much money trying to find the perfect wick. I am still have difficulties but I will not quit! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Don’t think of it as wasting money, think of it as investing in your knowledge ❤️ thank you for watching!
This was perfect. I just started making candles with a possible business in mind and I was having trouble with choosing a wick. You explained the topic really well. Thank you!
Plz will you help me.... Why bubble candles break when trying to remove from the molds
Sorry for my poor english
appreciate you sharing your advice, bless you x
Thank you for this video. It really helped
This is right on time! I'm currently testing a candle where it's not tunneling but it hasn't reached the sides. Given your advice, it looks like I need to be more patient.
Your puppy is so cute! He looks like my Bugsy who is a Schnauzer Jack Russell mix. He gets into everything!
Thanks for sharing, Erica!
Girl you are a life saver this video has a lot of good information and you talked about the issues I been having with my wicks and candle making Im a newbie and I been testing 2 months and haven’t been able to get it down I’m so stressed out
This will help me a lot. Thank you
Side note: I never knew you were supposed to trim wicks in a candle when using it. I'm here because I am looking to start. I have not bought anything yet to start. At the moment I am writing lots of notes, thinking about different things I need and researching places near me and online. I definitely want to take my time getting into this so I can be successful with this. I am on you're 3rd video go to the 4th and i absolutely love watching you're videos and listening to all the help you're giving! Thank you so much and I hope one day to be successful and do a give a way with you!
Ive always heard you should trim when you first use it but I didn’t realize you were supposed to trim it before every single use! That’s news to me
So freaking helpful! thank you! 🌸
Love your knowledge! Pls keep it up 👏🏽
Thank you! ☺️
thank you so much for such great advice.
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching :)
Great video thank you so much for sharing 🌹♥️🌹
Thank you so much. Xx
Very accurate and helpful! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Lovely Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Honulian Wiffy Remover (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a smashing exclusive product for making money as a candle maker without the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work colleague after many years got cool results with it.
Amazing video ❤️
Hi Erica love your videos!!💕 What wicks are your all time favorite??? What wick company do you prefer??
i love this erica
Erica! Thank you sOOO much, you are my new favorite online person during these times. I pretty much binge watched your channel a couple weeks ago and all of it has been so helpful. At first I was shocked of how open you are with the details of your candle business but quite honestly it's TRUE just cause something works for you doesnt necessarily guarentee it'll work for me or others. Its important to test test test! Thats where I'm at tight now with my jars and there truly is no shortcuts to this candle making process but getting informed does help make decisions easier. Thats what you are providing with your videos. LOVE it! AAAND congratulations on opening your shop! ❤👏
Yvonne you are so sweet!! Thank you❤️
It makes me so very happy that you have enjoyed and gained value from all of my videos-that’s all I can ever hope for! I have chosen to be open, honest and give all my knowledge to my fellow candle makers. Someone can copy my “style” or use the same wax, wick and jars as me. But they will never be my brand. I think a lot of people are afraid to give away information, or tell people details of their business because they’re afraid of competition or someone stealing their ideas. I know how frustrating it can be on the other end when you’re trying to learn how to do something and the person giving out the information is SO general and vague and you end up learning nothing. I want to share everything about my journey, nothing to hide here. ❤️
Cheers for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Honulian Wiffy Remover (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for making money as a candle maker minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate at last got amazing results with it.

Thanks for your video. Yes, the trick is in the wick! ;). I just placed an order on your Etsy site. I look forward to receiving your products. All the best to you! Love that your adorable dog is in the video, too (I’m also a dog mom). #supportsmallbusiness, #supportcandlecrafters
You are amazing Beth! Thank you so much for supporting me 🥰
He forces himself into my videos 😅
So so helpful
Trail & error, practice n above all patience is all you need. Great video 👍
very helpful thanks
Wow..thanks! I'm new in soy candle business and this info is definitely helpful..!!
Oh good I’m so glad! ☺️
Hi Erica! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. What is the best brand to buy wicks from?
Great video! Your presentation is very clear. I’m new to candle making and have been using 7-8 inch clamshells and old paraffin candles melted with craft store paraffin and wicks . They tunnel badly! An internet search suggested using three wicks, increasing the diameter of the the wick, and using hemp. Also, I was not cooling the wax at all before pouring nor letting it cure. Any suggestions? Don’t quit my day job? Thanks!
Thank you for posting !!!!!!! I so needed this ! I can’t wait till our store re opens !
Ps- 💕 Brodie ❤️❤️❤️
Yay I’m glad it was helpful Cari! ❤️
He’s my little love bug, and he’s also a little pain in the butt 😅

Sorry for my poor english
Thankyou, it's reassuring to know that I'm not going titally mad with this wick business and that hopefully I will soon regain my sanity 😅
Hi Erica! You're such an inspiration in candle making. I have started my testing months ago but I still didn't find the correct wick for my jars. Just a quick question, do I need to cure for a full 2 weeks for just a wick testing (I'm testing cocosoy blend wax without FO now)? Thank you so much!
Thank you!
Your double wicked jar is perfectly wicked! The melt pool is great, no soot and no mushrooming! Still really loving this wax, perfectly smooth top every time I relight and I have been lighting every day! Good job and thanks for the info.
Incredible feedback!! Thank you so much Giselle! ❤️🥰💕
Thanks so much
You are very unique. God bless you
you are so adorable. Love the videos. Learning quite a bit from you. Thanks.
You are the best! I'm so glad I found you on youtube. Im new to the candle world and soon will be starting my own little candle business. Just trying to do all the research I can. Super excited about that and super thankful to have you as my guide lol. Quick question, when the candle first starts to burn, what is the correct time that it is suppose to create a melt pool? within how long? idk if im asking that correctly but how do you know its a good burn. Thank you! looking forward to more videos!
Hi! So glad you found my channel too :)
From what I have learned, you should reach full melt pool (or almost full melt pool) within 4 hours of the candle burning, this is just a general rule though and could be different based on the diameter of the jar. It’s also okay if it does not reach full melt pool after the first burn (as long as it’s close enough to the edges to where it won’t cause any tunneling)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you! This is very helpful.
Thank you!!! I make handcrafted soap, bath bombs, body butters and lip Butters and thought Oh candles will be easy...🤣🤣🤣 Nope! So much science and testing to it!! Thanks for the info!! ~jc
Great unfor I just started to
Hello. I currently use 6006 and am looking into different wicks. Looking at HTP 83 for my jar similar to your small jar in the video. What wax do you use? Thank you so much for your informative videos with meaningful content.
OMG this is so great! Thank you so much for putting this together. My jar diameter is 3inch, so if i was going to test double wick, do I look for a wick that will cover 1.5inch (so x2 should cover the full 3inch)?
You could test that theory absolutely! And then adjust accordingly, just know that every type of wick with perform differently!
Erica you always have good information. Thank you so much! Where do you purchase your black jars? Candle science shipment to Texas is very expensive.
Thank you! And calcandlesupply :)
THANK YOU
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! You've been super helpful in my candle making journey.
Thank you for watching! I’m so glad :)
Plz will you help me.... Why bubble candles break when trying to remove from the molds
Sorry for my poor english
Thank you so much for your videos they all are very well explained and very detailed, it really helps specially for beginners like me.
I have a question , I have some problems with my wicks, and now I understand better about the length and gage , my question is....on minute 2.49 you mention about the wick if is too small it will start to tunnel down the center. What do you mean with “small” do you mean the gage? So the thickness? Because that’s the problem I’m having with my candles . Also that my wicks burn very tiny even when I cut them the correct size. Thank you!!
Yes you are exactly correct! It’s the gauge of the wick. The thicker the gauge, the bigger the wick, the bigger the melt pool ☺️
What does stumped mean in candle making? Also is there a temperature we should watch out for when we are getting down to the end? Thanks Henrietta
Not sure I agree about the melt pool theory- but I will concede to the experts. Long video, but your rants are so genuine and uniquely quirky I was fully engaged and engrossed in what you were saying. You would be a good teacher- but I think your talents would be wasted since you can be a GREAT on air talent/ business woman. Keep that energy- adorable! My favorite part was the last few seconds with your dog ( fellow dog mom). Love it!
You are so kind!! And yes I know the wick theory definitely goes against what most people recommend. Thank you for your kind words ☺️
And yes Brody likes to make his appearance in my videos! 😅
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Thanks Erica! I would love to network and exchange ideas. If you are open to it. What's the best way to communicate with your busy schedule? Fyi- I am also on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. Hugs and well wishes.
Erica, thank you for the information. I love watching your videos. Q? When testing your candles do you use your actual containers for your candles you sell or do you use a specific container for testing?
Yes! Always test with the candle jars you are going to sell 🙂
Memory Box Candle Co thank you Erica. I appreciate you. Stay safe, stay blessed.
I love the black jars ! where did you get those?
Thank you)
I had to laugh. You trim your wicks and your dog!😄
Love this series !! The diameter of my jar is 3.14” and I’m using a ECO 8 as suggested on candle science. Do I still need to double wick it even thought it’s only a little bit above 3 inches?
Not always! I would just do a lot of testing to see what works :)
This information was great, thank you. Have you found a conversion calculator for grams?
I just use google haha
Great channel and thank you for sharing! Do you have any recommended suppliers/candlemakers in Australia?
Thank you! And I’m so sorry I have no idea about suppliers in Australia :/
Thank you so much for this video. I have been going crazy trying to wick a 3.5 vessel with only 1 wick when dou le wicking worked soooo much better
Hi, Anne! may I know if this 3.5 is in ounces? I have 3oz and 5oz of jars and I’m still confused about what wick size I’m gonna use. thank you!
Hi erica for the big jars would it be okay for me to use eco 4 wicks? That’s why I have right now and the melt pool is good
Do shoe strings or yarn burn efficient or good like candle wicks. Can you use tree twigs for candle wick ???
Thank you for taking time to make these videos. Learning so much from you about candle making. I was wondering if you have ever experience a red streak in your soy candles using ECO 8 wick? I made a test candle using this wick and after curing for 2 days, I noticed a red streak at the top and at the bottom of the candle. I didn’t burn it because I wanted to send a photo to CS. I contacted Candlescience and got a reply that they had never seen that happened. I am using GB 464 and ECO 8 wick. I used their recommendation on what wick to use. I was just wondering and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
hmm no I’ve never noticed that before 🤔 maybe it was a bad batch of wicks ?
My husband tells me that I’m being too picky. I’m going crazy wick testing! Lol. I was dead set on CD wicks but I find that they flicker a ton and don’t get a FMP ughhhh lol
WOW, this info is invaluable.. Thank you so much for this.
I’m so glad you think so! You are welcome :)
You r my fav to hear now. I hear u all morning, while I am driving, while I am jogging. Thank u for all the info.
Appreciate video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you tried - Honulian Wiffy Remover (google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for making money as a candle maker without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got cool success with it.
Lovely Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Honulian Wiffy Remover (erm, check it on google should be there)? Winner of a video, been searching for "making soy candles for profit" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Peyaniel Psychological Predominance - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive guide for discovering the trick to be a candle maker for profit minus the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
Thank you so much for this video! Can I ask for your advise ? I have been having no luck with wicking a 3.06” diameter vessel with C3 wax, with large and small CD wicks. Would you suggest i try double wicking ?
What size CD wicks are you using?
Wonderful video... Question... Have you ever used the CD wicks? I've tried the ECO wicks but they never work well for my jars. Thank you
Yes I have tried them! I just liked the eco wicks better for my jars and wax :)
What eco wick do u recommend for a 3” diameter jar? I recently tested a double zinc wicks and the wax melted way too fast with a huge flame and mushrooms had occurred!
Hope to get son wicks soon
What if you put a wood wick and a cotton wick together in the same candle. How consistent will it be.I'm searching for some candle wick that's thick to get a thicker flame.I was checking out some videos on tea pot candle heaters so I suggested getting a thicker flame from the candle to use less candles. And using a bigger plant pot to produce more heat. And what if I use two cotton wicks in the same candle to get a bigger flame or can I put two cotton wicks in the same candle ?
My head is about to explode😅. I make my own tea light. Plain for now and I have a heart shape glass container. It does not have high sides. I put 3 wigs in do the shape. Works great
With burn times should the burn time always be 3 hours max. or should the 1st burn be longer (say 4 hours) than every other burn? Thanks for your vids BTW :)
For your Cali 10 oz jar do you use a double wick of ECO 12 or single?
Hi Erica how long after pouring can I cut the wick back? Do I have to wait 2 weeks until the candle is fully cured or can I do it after 24 hours?
hello! can you explain more about burn time? :)
Burn time is just an estimated total “life” of the the candle when the customer burns it properly :)
Hi! What size label would you Recommend for for an 8 oz tin?
Hi lovely, excuse me but I'm new to cabdle making and every new video I watch arises new questions. I saw you using tape for glueing in your wicks. I used that and the wicks would move and come off... do you know of any good stickers? Do you still use them? What gives? I'm desperate about this issue.
when you were talking about using 2 eco 2's, were you talking about your bigger sized jar? Also, maybe i missed it but did you mention double wicking your 8oz tins?? Can that be done with the tin containers or no?
I have an 8oz tin can with a diameter of 2 15/16 what size wick would you recommend? Please help.
Hi ! First of all, thank you for these amazing videos
It depends on the size / diameter of the candle jar
Hi, what do you mean by wick sage ? Im very new lol thank you
By jar diameter do you mean measuring from the inside or the outside of the jar?
